You can tell it's not a real perm. It's cruelty-free hair product and curlers. Most likely they only had Paul Mitchel and Aveda back then. Maybe I'm wrong. I tend to stick with Aubrey.
@brohmanski -If I'm not mistaken, Hamilton's Daniel Lanois w/ Brian Eno had something to do with this album at Grant Avenue Studios...Eno (Roxy Music) lived in Hamilton for a while, giving birth to "Ambiant Music" right here in Hamilton.
hey all, it's just about the groove. any music that grooves grooves. been playing since 13, now 56 and I drum. I dig it all if it grooves. anyone listen to carl verheyen?
They were protesting some stations banning a song suggestive of interracial romance. Was it possibly the song by INXS called "Original Sin"? They had a lyric "Dream on white boy, dream on black girl, and wake up to a brand new day". People thought it meant blacks and whites waking up TOGETHER...probably not their intent.
It has been SOOOO LOOONG from the time I have seen this video till now its scary. Thank you very much for posting it. I would love to add this to my small music video collection but cannot find it :-(. other than You-Tube. (Thus need to be online...)
I saw this video on video west a video show out of san francisco back in the 80's before mtv. Thanks for posting this it brings back many fond memories.!!!!
I Just got this info from a M+M mailing list I subscribed to:
We are about to release in Canada, the 25th anniversary CD reissue of 'Danseparc' on the 25th of June, which includes the original 12" dance remix and two other bonus tracks.
I agree. I haven't seen this video since the year it was released. I'm extremely impressed that someone still had this video to post on Youtube. Big thank you for the memories :)
Yes. Apparently it was a response to the fact that certain radio stations would not play "Original Sin" because of its mixed-race relationship subject matter.
thanks, have always loved this song, but what do you mean by "sounding dated?" i think this song sounds much more relevant now than 1999 by prince (if that's the song to which you're referring) musically, thematically, and lyrically (black stations, white stations is about commercially sponsored racism and social taboos, 1999 about partying really hard). these people were smart enough to know these things would be with us long after 1984...longer than 1999, for sure.
thanks for posting this song -- forgot about it. cooling the medium (my fav m+m song)has again found itself on some of my playlists in the last few years. still sounds good, and not aged, after all these years.
Ah, the good days of May 1984. Press Your Luck, Michael Larson, Michael Jackson's Thriller, animated Little Rascals on Saturday mornings (yeah, I'm one of the very few fans of that cartoon series!). Really loved it - and I was only 11 years old back then!
Ah yes... this is 1984... once again... Great memories. Martha and the Muffins was (is) one of my favorite bands. This was my favorite album from them as well. Thanks for posting!!
Great video. This was the classic era of the music video. The only ones worth watching. By the late 80's they'd become routine, corporate & boring.

This song reminds me so much of Parachute Club's dancing at the foot of the moon and martha looks just like loraine secada.

I think they were going for the name change, calling themselves M+M,...

one more thing, you can call it nostalgia when you are dead, until then it's all good.

I remembert this when I was 12, i used to love this song.
Now instead of black stations and white stations we just have Crappy Stations.
Can't we all just get along?

Me too, when I was 10! man...1984 was a year of cultural awakening for me!

why can't we have good music like this these days?
erikcashman 2 years ago 7
because young musicians are more interested in stardom than actually learning an instrument and music history.

That and A&R. Marketing. Getting it now. Moola for the sake of moola. And unfortunately, as this song goes, the tides are growing stronger every day.

I LOVED this video back then. I still like the song, but this is kinda weird now.
How things have changed...
And the world rushes headlong into what we know call the future.

Aptly put.
Especially since back then now (2009) was the future, and 1984 was the "future" coming into the "present".
I too, have not seen this for 25 years.
