  • There's no bass guitar on Elephant Talk. Levin plays all lines on a Chapman Stick.

  • lol!!!! pobre vato

  • it wasn't that bad, but it was only as inaccurate as it was because there was no chapman stick nor synthesizer which was used to get the sound of the part your playing not the bass part. keep at it

  • You did it all right, but you have to listen to the piece more closely. Also, the bassline of the piece is done on a Stick Touchboard, not a regular bass. Please try to get one from Stick Enterprises.

  • Lordy!

  • Please make it stop!!! There are a whole heap of videos of Tony Levin playing this. First thing you will notice is that it is tapped. The second thing you will notice is that it is tapped on a Chapman Stick. Not to mention you are leaving half of the notes out and I won't even mention that you left the entire into out. Oh, I just did.

  • you fucking suck. take a rope put it around your neck and jump ... swing muthafuckahhhhhh

  • That sucked.

  • Did you break into that studio ?

If you choose the masters to cover them

    1) Tune your Bass

1b) Better: Try to get a Chapman Stick, toherwise it'll never work

    2) Stay in Time, man

Practice (2-3 years ?) then post your video again.

  • man that song is very hard, and you dont need a chapman stick, only a good tapping two-hand technic

  • nononononono

  • To really get it right - you gotta be "thumb popping" that whole line. Keep after it!

  • NOT

  • i find this rather halirous.

  • YOU FAIL

  • Is that you Reid?

  • There's a reason this doesn't this doesn't sound as good, one huge reason is that it isn't a Chapman's stick! That was used on this song as well as man other Crimson songs.

  • You need a metronome. Bad.

  • i have to agree with everyone else...its not good.

  • shit, quit playing with your dad´s stuff and learn how to really play........

  • WHAT A GREAT EQUIPMENT!!!....you sucks

  • heh, yo need a stick, sell all the shit you have a buy one,

  • Incredible, great equipment, but i´m sure that money can´t buy some talent, next time play something easier, or do something else...

  • Holy shit you have all that equipment and you can't play 5 fucking notes right... Get a teacher instead of all of that stupid shit you surely don't know how to use...

  • wow i hope thats your dad's studio or something. you need practice with a metronome + a tuner

  • LOL

  • tune that shit.

    incredible set up.

  • Dude, what's that?

  • wake up and hear yourself.

  • i don't give a fuck if you own lots of expensive instruments and so on, the sound is in your hands and in your mind.

  • Pretty cool. But I agree with the Video comment from psychedelicchango. He has more of the essence of the chapman stick. Incorporate those ideas with yours and you'll be sounding even better!! Have fun!

  • god damm thats a lot of gear god i would go crazy with all that so much i would do haha

  • how'd you aquire all that gear!? When I was 20I had a strat copy and a Big Muff with dead batteries.

  • incredible setup. i envy you

  • love that bass man ;)

  • thought you couldn't do this without a chapman stick

  • nice, King Crimson. i want to make request. sry to bug you but could you do 21st Century Schizoid Man? that song rules.

  • i know parts of 21st Century Schizoid Man. The part in the middle is very tough.

  • cool man. i'm getting a webcam when i get an amp. maybe by then i can post it for others. thank you for your information on the song though.

  • listen to a live song with greg and you well get the part like i did

  • Not a bad shot at it. I do think you need to work on your tone/tuning. Plus I would look into trying to clean up your amp settings. (Though this last big could simply be the quality of the youtube video). As others have mentioned, Tony Levin is a great influence for any bassist to learn from. The guy is a genius. What really impresses me is your home studio...how did you afford all of that stuff????

  • hey man, i reckon you did a sweet job, since its on a chapman stick and you played it on a bass. it would actually be quite difficult on a bass, i can play it on a guitar but thats it, nice job, ignore the haters

  • /yawn

  • Regardless of any of these nasty comments I give you credit for having good taste in music. If it makes you happy keep doing it and fuck the haters because at least you are trying to do 'something' other than crap on people.

  • you're supposed to tap the riff, not that bad though, these ppl just like to bitch it seems

  • Ignore the haters. You're pretty tight most of the way through. You can't really play this properly without a Stick but it's a good effort.

  • its grand to piay on a 5 or six string bass, the high part needs to be up an octave for the most part and youre missing a good few notes because of not tapping the main riff need to be doing two bits at once, mayb try putting in chords where the ieft hand would be playing a lower note

  • hahah this is so miserable!!!

dont post any of these again....

    seriously... you suck!

  • if you think you or any of you "non-creative turds" can do better, prove it.

  • Ummm, "non-creative" is posting a video of yourself attempting to play someone else's music.

You're not even playing in -time- or consistently. I sure hope all of that "fancy gear" behind you isn't yours, because damn man, you've wasted a lot of money to record some really really horrible shit if it is.

  • correction. "non-creative" is spending your whole day on this website looking for people to poop on. why don't you make yourself useful and get off this website and read a book. people like you make me sick.

  • @bassman5588 can i have that mixing desk and your monitors and all your rack gear? k, thanks..

  • I'm here to say that from my experience, the feedback is more promising when you post a video of someone else's music. Some I assume, like myself, post videos of themselves playing popular music to lure people to their profile in hopes that they'll check out their originals. People can't search for the song (blank) by the artist (blank) . . because they don't know what they're looking. Mostly, because that's Not what they're looking for.

  • Speaking of which, how'd you find this video? And if someone playing a cover is, in your opinion, "non-creative" . . then why'd you click on it? Hmm, maybe bashing the kid's playing was in fact your only interest. Because . . . That . . . is so creative.

  • Damn .. leave the kid alone. He has good taste in music. This stuff isn't easy to play for anyone. I'm trying to play the beginning part of Frame by Frame but it ain't easy!

  • lol your ok, but alot of people can do better...

  • he's no ok :)

  • sos malisimo dedikate a freir churros shrek

  • Sloppy sloppy sloppy. Tune the intrument, learn proper techquie and learn how to make your instrument sound good, yuk! Just mud!

  • holy shit your playing that so wrong. look for a tab, also the chapman stick part of this song is only played on the bass side of the strings so its pretty easy to do

  • Its not hard to play and he does it poorly... and I think the bass its out of tune

  • So much money, so little talent.

  • Wow. Yeah, you're WAY better than Tony Levin on a Stick. Keep practicing, kid.

  • ummmm.... yeah.

I like the jimmy-leg tempo helper spasm though.

  • yeah, it sounds better with that damn 12-string bass JEEZ!

  • Um, it's called a Stick, putz and this "rendition" is pretty pathetic. I could do this on a bass when I was his age...what is he like 14? Yeah, kid. Get a Stick. Then put yourself up on YouTube.

  • there are 2 basses and u dont play any

  • Nice job, Bassman. You not only have talent at your age, but great taste in music. Ignore the shitheads whose lives are so bereft of joy that they have to shit on anybody doing anything nice. I imagine someone did it to them first, which is sad. Keep playing and ignore critics and other non-creative turds.

    Nice studio, too!

  • It sounds weird because Tony Levin played Elephant Talk by Chapmans's Stick

  • Look, I'll be as kind as possible, which is to say this: if you are even halfway serious about music, posting this kind of thing on Youtube may come back to haunt you.

I wish you luck. Study more, practice more -- most importantly, don't post things on on the internet that will embarrass you once you learn how to play for real.

    Cheers,

    Drumnut

  • If it were the issue of being embarrassed, why would anyone ever record or release their album in fear of it being embarassing later on. Kudos to the dumbest comment ever!

  • TU BAJO ESTA DESAFINADO :)

  • It doesn't sound right cos you only play half. Mind you, Levin is a genius.

Ignore the criticism and keep playing though.

  • sos re puto

  • Keep it on man! ROCK N ROLL

  • Nicely done, it's nice to see a young musician who actually respects music..

  • nice job.

  • Yeah, why the hell would you film yourself practicing with a recording. Fuck you for wasting my time.

  • nah mate. shite. its done in tapping and you didnt do the trill and its just not right. you suck.

  • plap

  • Keep practicing....you'll get there.

  • basically what duhduh said.

  • I take your dad is a musician or rich, or both. Why not get a Chapman and play this correct? You missed half of it and it really is impossible to play without. At least get out the fretless. peace

  • Thats an amazing set-up that you have. You've played it quite well but I would work on that bass sound. Something a little brighter would be better.
