If I had a Hammer was composed exclusively by Bobby Darin. Bobby once said, he was singing in a small bar songs that people could sing along with & the audience was booing & making fun of him. Bobby had composed 1000's of songs. The original Elvis voice was that of Bobby Darin. His heart was failing him & e had diabetes & on biplar drugs. He didn't understand the audence. He composed for Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, bands, etc. He felt a new age coming on. Bobby could read prophecy
We used to sing this song in the early 1970's! Loved it then, and love it just as much today. Judith's voice is so calming, and sweet. I could listen to the Seekers all day long!! Good job!
A place in time that society forgot . . . . when music was cool, groovy & innocent and lyrics were clean and people were pure and unspoiled . . . unlike today ~ how they serve our kids a bunch of FILTH where lyrics of gang-sta rap & hip hop- are full of profanity, recording artists are horny sexual beings portrayed in videos & pop stars are admired for getting into hot water with the law - WHAT kind of CRAPis that ??? Just another example of the deterioration of the very fabric that holds us up.
Judith was always a significant part of the Seeker's sound. The song that first really "hit the charts" in Canada was (as my aging brain recalls) "A World ofOur Own". This was followed by Morning Town Ride and others where Judith was hardly harmony. I still have a number of their early albums and Judith was always "there". No slight to Keith, Bruce and Athol who more than did their part. Over the years I have seen Bruce's name pop up in many roles that kept the genre moving.
BIG Seekers fan. But why is this so disciplined? PP&M set the bar very high with their much more exciting version. Suspect that later versions by the Seekers was a lot more energetic.
The Seekers were Australasia's answer to Peter, Paul and Mary.

Seems their earlier songs featured the men more and Judith was just part of the harmony.

@Vicka50 - The Seekers were, from left to right, Keith Potger, Bruce Woodley, Judith Durham and Athol Guy.
BTW - Bruce Woodley co-wrote "Red Rubber Ball" with Paul Simon.
