  • Thanks always nice to refresh gives me confidents

  • clearly and consicely explained. Thanx

  • Your beautiful just throwing it out there!

  • quick question:

after you insert the needle do you push the medicine quickly? because as far as im concerned, pushing in the med quickly is extremely painful.

  • @bleechedbones Depends...I usually ask my patient what they want me to do. Some folks would rather just have it over faster.

  • Oh, thank you so much for this! My friend needs regular injections in the "butt" and I want to make sure I do it correctly. This is immensely helpful. You are the best!

  • @ThePatriotNurse i'm 14 years old and i'm in the university already starting a bachelors degree in nursing sciences! what advice can you give me?

  • @hjestrella Don't bother doing all the reading...you'll drive yourself nuts! :D

  • Oh thank you for this video :) You make the best one one this Med stuff.. We all think about it,and you address it so well..And the comments ask the best question too..Thank you all :)

  • great video, comprehensive and simple

  • its off topic but y the sunglasses, u remind me of jack nicholson LOL

  • another question: if you use a 20 gauge needle 1.5 inch long to do IM injections in the outer qauds, do you go all the way in to the end of the needle, or leave 1/2 an inch or how deep????

    thanks! :)

  • what else is supposed to come out other than blood?

  • Hi if a person is skinny, little to no body fat, and muscle loss due to illness, etc is there a alternate area, as muscle is probably to thin for a 1.5" needle, but if that is all you have how far in with the needle into muscle should you go, or slightly angle in a certain direction in upper outer glut, or thigh? thanks you

  • So in regular nursing practice if you do hit a vessel would you waste the medicine and get new?

  • @mrsasakali Yes. Retract, waste the med. Grab new syringe and needle, draw up new med and administer :)

  • @ThePatriotNurse if a patient starts to have a spasm while you are administering the injection what needs to be done???

  • i need some info...i have had nightmares since i gave an IM injection in the "butt"...im familiar with giving IM in the deltoid and was told by the patient he prefers it in the buttocks...well i divided the cheek into 4 quadrants and know it is injected in the upper outer quad but i injected it more towards the center..i had aspirated b4 giving it (no blood) but worried since it was not as far out as it was suppose to be also there was bleeding as soon as i pulled out thats never happened b4

  • Great info thank you.

  • you look good in those scrubs

  • Sorry I haven't gone through all your videos in case you explained it but is there a medical reason why you're always wearing sunglasses inside?

  • Thank you for addressing this.

I have a question re: weekly IM injections for a loved one. We had the impression you should change injection sites each week, meaning varying the location on the buttock where the injection is given.

Is it okay to "move around" among the outer L and R quadrants with each injection?

And is any place to be specifically avoided for any reason?

  • @jhebertutube Avoid the area around the sciatic nerve. If you have been instructed to rotate injection sites, you could do L Butt, R Butt, L Leg, R Leg, then back to L Butt. Rotating injection sites is important so that you don't hurt the tissue with repeated administrations.

  • Excuse me I have a question:

what is the appropriate Gauge size for IM injections?

(I like your videos, thanks for uploading)

  • @MedicalAviator Great question!! I usually use 20 or 22 gauge with a 1.5 inch needle for an adult for just plain old IM. For kids you wouldn't use such a long needle, take a 1 inch or smaller depending on the size of the kid. For an infant, we use a tuberculin syringe...teeny tiny.

  • @ThePatriotNurse thank you for the answer!

  • The only injections I have done are to my farm animals and pets. Understanding that IM is intramuscular, does the medication have to be absorbed into a muscle, or will it be effective as well if it is injected into fatty tissue? If you have to inject an obese person it might be hard to find muscle with the short needles I use for IM injections on my sheep.

  • @hunt1803 IM goes in the muscle, SQ (sub-cutaneous) goes into fat. Perhaps the thigh location the Patriot Nurse demonstrated might be better if you think there's too much fat over their butt area for an IM needle to reach their muscle.

  • Thank you PN I so enjoy your videos and I appreciate you so much and the knowledge you share!!

  • Great job!

It would have been good if my nursing teacher had done as well. it was good for me that I had been a medic first.

  • great demonstration. It might be worth while to provide information about the appropriate gauge and length of needle to use, for the preppers that don't have much medical experience

  • I have a question. How will I be obtain meth, crack, naloxone, smack, heroin, ativan, morphine, suboxone, methadone and roxycodone when the shit hits the fan?

  • @bucki58 HAHAHAHAHA, i will shoot you, cause if you need that stuff, you dont need to be near me after the country fails.

  • @Kylef7735

It seems like a lopsided situation to me....live/die with my guts hanging out and completely sober.

  • @bucki58 Well, if youre talking about good uses, i would take the highly addictive and less effective ones off the list, and to get the official medical ones, raid the nearest hospital. And i dont call that looting, looting is taking tvs and crap like that, not food and life saving equipment.

  • I can't wait to be a RN. I am finishing my last prereq for the LVN program after that I am going into the RN program, but I might go into the Airforce to do that.I heard that they have a good program. Have you heard of anyone going in for their nursing programs. Well I got about 2 years to think about it. More vids plz..STITCHES! I can handle anything burns are my worst fear. When I started to get into the med field neighbors started coming over w/lots of?s U?SHTF ambush the nurse.Hostage?LOL

  • I'm a Medical Asst. and to tell you the truth I think that what I learned should be learned in school. I teach my kids from ages 3 to 15 a lot of little things and they like it I've taught my 2 older ones to give insulin shots and different sites because my dads diabetic and also because its an epidemic. If you keep them intrested in the medical field they will kind of start thinking in that direction. My 3year old likes to clean and bandage booboos. They all want to be doctors. Isn't that great

  • i have a question my son is type 1 diabetic in a shtf senario is their any thing i can do to strech insilin or make inslin or a herbal remidy to control sugars my grandmother said she has a plant that helps with sugars do you kow any thing about that or know what to do?

  • @nellynell77 Cinnamon has been shown in some studies of type 2 diabetes to aid in the regulation of blood sugars, and consequently reduce the need for insulin in some patients. I am unaware of studies on type 1 diabetic patients, but this might be worth investigating.

  • @ThePatriotNurse I think it has to be a certain type of cinnamon. I believe regular cinnamon has a mild toxin that builds up in the body.

  • My wife has a self injector for treatment of MS. Would that be strong enough for IM injection?
