  • In Wing Chun, there are no competitions. Now, Mr. Kwok said, that Wing Chun is for fighting. How can he talk about fighting, when a Wing Chun artist has never fought? Wing Chun is not a martial art, because a martial art is the art of fighting and not just the art of self-defense.

  • @MegaSmud while I won't speak for Kwok, I will speak for wing chun as a fighting art...it is a fighting art asit is taught. Self defense, in case you are not aware, is more abou awareness and the legalities of how far one can go in a fight in the eyes of the law. No, by your logic any art that hasn been in a fightg (not a sporting cmpetition) does not qualify as a fighting art at all. Your logic doesn't necessarily follow here

  • @rgvwingchun No, I don´t mean a sporting competition! I mean, a real fight as a competition. Nobody is able to fight, if he not train to fight. Wing Chun isn´t an art to learn, how to fight real (without rules or less rules/fullkontakt).

  • @MegaSmud I'm aware of what you mean and I assure you as I train and am taught wing chun by my sifu (not Kwok) our wing chun is not trained for anything other than real combat and self defense situations. Perhaps you are confusing my wing chun with somebody elses in which cases your are making a part to whole fallacy in your conclusion that you shoul consider as incoherent

  • @rgvwingchun O.K. that´s something different. But, Wing Chun is Wing Chun. And I don´t think, that this system is complete enough for fighting. I´m sorry, but I am a german, my english is not perfekt.

  • @MegaSmud your english not bad at all actually....I will admit that the way some people train and teach their win chun is absolutely useless for real fights....but that can go fo any art but does it say something about the art necessarily or the one teaching? Punching and kicking are useful for fightng period. You might just wang to evaluate different win chun instructors bfoe you make a statement about the art itself....try

  • @rgvwingchun Thank you! I have been studied the martial arts for many years. I read all the books of Bruce Lee and convinced myself that match his statements. For this reason - and also from my own experience - I agree with Bruce Lee's statements. Wing Chun has fixed motions, with are not allowed to leave. But: no fight has programmed motions! That´s what I wanted to say.

  • @MegaSmud any martial art has "fixed positions"otherwise it is no "art"....consider also that Bruce was not a wing chun expert as he only learned the foundation form and didn't get a look at the whole art to competently evaluate it. Kind of unfair of his criticism don't you think? Good teachers of any martial art recognize that no fight is planned and I recognize this also....but a punch is a punch and can be deflected and controlled to make counter attacking feasible which is what wing chun

  • @MegaSmud duel weild. the dragon pole form teaches techniques for longer range weapons ie spears, sticks, halbreds etc then theres a wooden dummy form for when you lack a partner. IMO untainted by Bruce Lees thoughts Wing Chun seems an allround stand up fight style with few flaws (other then its close range in some situations) whats it lacking??? a gun form?

  • @MegaSmud

Also, dual wielding the BF swords (eg Musashi's katanas) produces more severed limbs and necks. Groundwork thus is impossible. And in historical legend, Ng Mui killed the legendary Fong Sai-yuk with WC as she was tasked with adding the finishing dim-mak skills (of which she was master) to it. But to save Master Fong's reputation, Bak Mei (a male) is given the glory. The truth appears in the legend of Yim Wing Chun to protect Fong's rep & give Ng Mui her deserved honour of his defeat.

  • @mysticpiggy

The fact that Grandmaster Kwok is willing to give up his life to learn and spread the art of Wing Chun to non-Chinese is very respectable.

Business? The last thing a guy like Grandmaster Kwok would care about is business, he doesn't give a hoot about money, he just wanted the art to live on

Besides, he DO emphasizes and teach a lot about real life applications of Wing Chun, so just shut the fuck up

  • people arguing diffrent points... if its a fight use what ever u think will work... if its a tourniment fight well depening how u set up is how u fight...

  • mystic bullshiter you are obviously a fool!!! HOW CAN YOU DISAGREE WITH THAT ADVISE HIT AND DONT STOP until its over!!!

  • no kidding....sounds like pretty sound advice to me...I think any martial art would like to have the same goal or at least any self defense methods

  • mystic bullshiter stop hiding behind your computer and come and train with us!!!!

  • mmm, well I have to disagree, this man is like everyther instructor, he is a business man, he has no cares about how you survive a real life incounter, when you relise this you will wake up, this man is just another person making money thats all it is, any one will teach you if they get paid, and really you need to look outside the wing chun system if you want t know what really works in a real life situation.

  • Actually, he didn't say Wing Chun = combat; he said its "for fighting"...Wing Chun is a training method to train particular principles and techniques for fighting. The purpose of any training is to increase your odds of survival. Now, if you read the realistic self defense experts like Marc Animal MacYoung and lately, Sgt. Rory Miller, martial arts training for self defense is invaluable, regardless of style because it helps to train your mind for when you do actually encounter situation.

  • Now sure, there are techniques within ANY system that might be full of crap...you have to hope to find the right teacher to help you out. Kwok might be a money maker but he has been in real fights and I take what he says with a grain of salt. I have trained some Gracie BJJ that offers some less than realistic self defense techniques against weapons (at least experience weapon handlers) and some methods don't even address weapons (like boxing)...but you can't fault wing chun unless...

  • you've tried it and have at least obtained reached a level of proficiency and have fought with it. Wing Chun has produced some bare knuckle boxing champs in Europe, including Paul Smith of Scotland Combat Arts. Besides, if you really listen to the video, Kwok is basically saying "him hit before he hits you, and when you hit him, keep hitting him until he goes down and can't do anything to you!" Isn't that the ideal in self defense? Get in quick, do what you gotta do so you can get the hell out!

  • @mysticpiggy

And just what the fuck would you know?

Wing Chun is the best you hanging mess :)

  • Some of the best boxers at the moment use incorporate Wing chun concepts in their fighting styles, watch Floyd Mayweather Vs Ricky Hatton and if you know any Wing Chun, you'll know what I mean!

  • So you saw that in that fight also. I kept telling my boys (friends) that, but since they are street fighters and not martial artist, they had not idea what I was speaking of. But that fight illustrated how well some one with little wing chun proficiency can do.

  • Wing Chun is a very scientific martial art developed to be as direct, effective and efficient as possible, based upon the human skeletal structure. I personally believe that anyone interested in studying martial arts should learn this first, and later on, study and incorporate other martial art styles to suit your own body structure.

  • no fighting is a game!! you dont need to know that with wing chun, regardless, boxer would kick the shit out fo a wing chun guy, wing chun may work for the odd nob on the street, but against soemone, ie boxer, bye bye, u lose.

  • boxer? Are you serious? not to take away from boxing, but its apples and oranges...one is sport the other is combat....

  • mmm, I disagree, combat=wing chun, I dont think so, you are in the clouds, boxing, well take the gloves off then see what you have, 99% of the time if you defended your self you will naturally use boxing, its a natural reaction, you are nto going to be fart arsing around with wing chun, and especially standing in that silly pose, when you see reality you will understand how rigid wing chun is. traditon and masters all win over reality.

  • i dont care if you talk about this guy i dont know him but dont ever put down wing chun after all if you try boxing against a wing chun master or someone who knows what they are doing they wont touch then because they can't get passed there center line so no jabs or upper cuts and if he throws a hook he's just going to strike it and deaden the arm no disrespect to boxing but most styles have there strengths and weaknesses so dont try to single out wing chun

  • Wing Chun is not rigid. In fact good Wing Chun teachers teach you not to be rigid and the basic principle is to be soft like a blade of grass, but firm and unyielding. Real Wing Chun used on the street, doesn't look like Wing Chun. It looks like me boxing your face in.

  • Correct! :)

  • @mysticpiggy

:L:L Where did you get 99% from? I suppose you knwo it's bullshit and have very lttle fighting expirience. If you really want to learn to be devastating and defend yourself in a fight stop dancing around your opponent and learn wing chun :D Once you have mastered that you can incorparate your own style out of it. Thats what Bruce Lee did.

  • @blvingtsun

:L:L You clearly know little about fighting, I did kickboxing for 4 months and got beaten up straight away, but wing chun I now can beat up bigger boxers in my school :D, of course in every real fight you will go off your martial art at some point if you learn one but WIng Chun is better to learn than any fucking boxing style twat.

  • Why does this video have only 3 stars, that's lame

  • This guy knows wht he's talking about.

  • can u take this without knowing any fighiting moves?? i want to join at a begginer level is it like karate plz pm me.

  • its completly diff from karate.

  • @theaznboy44

It almost the opposite. Karate is more about power and hard blcoks with some fancy high kicks and breaking wooden boards and shit Wing Chun is a very subtle, relaxed and uses deflections and "dirtier" moves.

  • man I dont think there is anyone better than Sifu apart from Si Gung

  • He is truly an amazing man

  • Exelentes palabras de un gran Maestro del Wing Chun.

    -Saludos desde Chile-

  • It's good to see Master Kwok teaching what Wing Chun should be. Too many allow Wing Chun, and specifically Chi Sao to be turned into a "Slapp Boxing" game. Master Kwok always teaches Wing Chun as a WEAPON!

  • Now that's good stuff!!!!
