Как же сложно петь русскую оперу иностранным певцам.

Интересно воспринимать это пение чисто музыкально, не вдумываясь в смысл слов. Открывается новый смысл.

So this is just bel canto or how it spelled I dont know. For me opera is not just bel canto. Its fkn world. Boris Godunov is not just opera for us its much more. This is soul of my country. There a lot of pointless operas in Russia, but Boris Godunov is different so this annoying me a little.

So he can sing any sounds, not from Godunov, and it will be no difference for you. Grest. but this is still Godunov...

His voice are good but i can not understand half of the words. Another half is not good too. Its offensively a little.

@triacom1287 Нье обьезжайсья товьярьесчь. Вед этьо хьорошьо, чтьо он нье можьет и двух слов связать по Русски. Это похоже на русские надписи в американских фильмах, вроде "ядреная станция пальца ноги". Что проку в том что он некие звуки издает. А если ты думаешь, что слова не нужны, так чего текст пишешь? Промычал бы что нибудь и ок.

I went to hear Boris Godunov with Salminen yesterday at Finnish house National Opera. It absolutely blew my mind! And this particular scene was something that had magic in it!

Matti is indeed a legend, and these performances with Zubin Mehta and the NYPhil are absolutely incredible. Thanks for posting!

I would love to see Salminen perform the actual opera, but I'm afraid the exertion might be too much! Look at him sweat with all that intensity!

I saw him in the Zurich Opera Boris Godunov last week, but he was covered in gold paint so I couldn't tell.

I agree that Martti's voice overclasses Salminens but I can relate more to the duality in Salminens more human Boris. I also find the solemn concertant (non staged) version highly appealing: Salminen's restriction to act solely with facial expressions works very well for me, for the drama... and for Salminen: not the greatest mover on stage. I also love the way the camera catches Zubin's face expressing the gravity of the music at 6:59 compared to his joyfull expression at 2:15 :-) Great video!

Didn't like it at all. His voice seems trapped somehow and a bit flat at times, and his Russian isn't much good either.

Wonderful. Thank you whoever you are for posting this. Matti is a living legend in the world of opera and one of the voices of the century. I recommend to listen also Martti Talvela. He was very famous especially in Germany before his death.

Sorry, Matti Talvela is, he died in 1989. I thought you ment Matti Salminen ... glad he is still around and active.
