  • Hey, Big O!! I stumbled on your video just now and WOW...INCREDIBLE!!! Keep em coming!

  • Oh my god. I love you! =P

  • Sweet! I liked the change in the lead part a lot. :)

  • Brilliant man! Makes me miss my high school year that I was in a barbershop quartet(a million years ago). HM

  • My kids totally love you! My two-year-old just came over and pointed to the computer and said, "Sleepy time?" You do a great job :-)

  • @tiffanywaits awww, that's awesome! I've got another video done that I'll be posting soon too.

  • @murry537 hey, I'm the two-year-old's dad. Your tag just ended one of the longest, crankiest, pre-bedtime fits I've ever seen. I feel like I should sing "Beautiful Lifelong Friend" to you :-P Can't wait for the next one! Post away, sir! Also, my 6 year-old is learning all the parts to these tags. He lets me sing bass, but he covers the rest. Thanks alot for all your work on these!

  • Love what you did with the lead! I'm gonna try it when my Barbershop gets together today, thanks!

  • That's my favorite tag (and probably the only one I can tech well - maybe that's why it's my favorite). Well done.

Another poster here says they didn't here Louis Armstrong sing the line. I have heard him sing it but he sings it 'straight across' - a single note.

As to your vowel formation on 'down' and 'south' the first part of the dipthong, by my ear, should be more towards an 'ah' sound. I hear a south Jersey or maybe a Maryland accent creeping in there: almost 'day-uwn' .

    Harold

  • @manplex1 The tweaking of that vowel is intentional to get the kind of tone that I wanted there. Has nothing to do with my accent. And I'm from the south anyway, not northeast.

  • Wow!

  • Thanks for teaching this great tag, Big-O. You've got a great voice.

  • Great stuff Big O, where can I get a copy of Classic Tags by Dave Wright?

    Bob P. (lead) Plymouth, England.

  • @freeserve1942 Just google for classic tags pdf.

  • @murry537 Thanks Big O keep 'em ringing

  • i love this guy, he is THE MAN

  • Thank you so much. You have a great voice. I used to sing this with a bunch of friends at bluegrass festivals in the late 70s early 80's. A wonderful production.

  • When you add the echo and all four parts come together, it becomes a really NICE sound! The result is very impressive. Thanks for posting it!

  • See? THAT is what I'm TALKIN' ABOUT! The sum of the four parts is just SO much more than any of the individual parts.

Now I have to go watch all your other videos! Thanks for posting this! REALLY nice.

  • haha i like your gliss on bass to the lowest note at the end

  • Well done and you have lots of patience!

  • wonderful job! Hats off to you from a fellow barbershop

  • Really great tag !! Wish you knew how much we (my quartet) enjoy your fine work. Please keep it up.

  • Amazing! Good job man!

  • U are Amazing!!! what software do u use?

  • @MrNuPraise Garageband and final cut

  • @murry537 I try and use Garage band but I don't have an interface for it.

  • Otis Rene Wrote this song!!! He was my neighbor when growing up... Little known fact - he also penned Nat 'King' Cole's first big hit - "I'm Lost' and some other songs for Louis Armstrong!!

  • you got a good voice!!!

  • Hello newman

  • ok that was kinda weird but nice lol thumbs up

  • that was amazing man :D

  • ok...I have a new favorite tag. I like your Change lead to post on "time" also. CS

  • I've seen alot of these Sleepytime tags but no one can beat yours!

  • Thanks alot! I recorded it and it sounds great! Keep up the good work!

  • 1:49 lol

  • Man, you are great. Thx for your tutorials. Keep it up!

  • I checked youtube for "When it's sleepytown down south", but I only find Louis Armstrong. Sounds totally different... That line isn't in it.

  • Yeah, the full barbershop version isn't on youtube as far as i know.

But that's ok though because the Louis Armstrong version is SWEET!

  • Hey now . . . . that was great! Thanx for sharing!! :-)

"I wanna go way down soooouuuth"

    Shari (the Baritone)

  • Great song man, but if you ever need a bass, I'm here

  • Dude you definately have a kick ass radio voice

  • That's something I've worked on quite a bit, so that you a lot!

  • No prob, keep doin what you do.... :P

  • Awesome pal. ;)

  • Nice one dude, you always have a bad ass radio voice :D keep it up

  • You are Definatly....without a doubt... the bomb diggity...

  • lol

  • i sing baritone in my choir and i love this song...

well done that was very impressive

  • really really cool

  • Awesome. Great job!

  • I love this!!!! Your voice is so pure!

  • i'm a lead in barbershop choir but it's called Desert Harmony and i love the leads part ;)

  • This is incredible.

I just went to a barbershop camp, and we learned this tag.

I just love the tenor part.

    =]]

  • Ur an inspiration man.

I just got into barbershop and this vid has been extremely helpful. Thnx for making this.

Altho i am a bass and my version is a lot lower i should b posting it up in a bit. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

  • Sure! Post it as a video response to this one.

  • i'm a bass too, and i also did the tag lower than it's supposed to be. i just recently replaced the low version with one that is in the right place. it just takes a lot of singing and practice to get your voice to where you want it to be. i'm interested in seeing your take on this tag :)

  • That was pretty cool. You've got a really nice singing voice. Get Your Ass On American Idol, dude! You've got my vote.

  • I love this kind of stuff......you are officially a BA thanks for the enchantment lol

  • Thanks, I think....what's a BA?

  • Bad-ass. Which, I agree.

  • LOL. Thanks! :)

  • A BA is a bad ass, just not as inappropriate lol

  • very very good ssound tones good ending was betterr then the teaching

  • Hi big- o. i dont want to pester the greatest barbershop people, but im itching to do a barbershop tag with you and some of the others. If you want to do that that would be great. please respond

  • Send me a private message, and we'll talk.

  • Good vid but man your face expressions are hilarious!

  • Very nice, indeed!!!!

  • hey, it sounds great. I always love a little reverb, makes the blend better for me. All of your videos are great for people who like to learn how to sing your standard barbershop harmonies

  • your pitch isnt so great to begin with

(sorry i have pitch perfect hearing)

but it sounded fantastic all put together!

    great job!!!

  • I can't decide if that's a compliment or not.

  • compliment :)

    great vid

  • haha yeah right, pitch perfect hearing HAHAHA!

    Maybe you CARE too much!

I can hear if theres like a really small pitch, but I don't give a shit because it's still entertaining!

    You should too!

  • Nice - pretty cool stuff!!

  • Great job, as always!

The quick pitch-up after 1:46 sounds a little funny. This happens to me very often, because I intuitively want to feel that I successfully tuned my vocal chords to maximum thickness.

  • I'm not sure what moment you're talking about.

  • To be exact, I mean the beginning of the word down at 1:47. It sounds as if you started a note on at least on voice way too low and did a very quick glissando up to the right note, landing on it a fraction of a second later with a lot of power. I did the same thing on my To Reach The Unreachable Star tag at the beginning of the word star.

  • Yes, I slid into that chord part a little. Probably a quarter tone or so. That was intentional just to add a little oomph.

  • thanks Big O..i one of your big fan..u make easy for me to learn and arrange vocal..thanx a lot ..btw im from malaysia..

  • Thanks!

  • that was pretty sick

  • Hey Big-O,

    Nice tag, sounds great! =)

What software do you use to edit them together?

I'm trying to do some of these tags and all I have is Window's Movie Maker, so it's not soundin' too good! =P

  • I use Garageband on a Mac.

My video "Big-O talks about himself" answers more of those kind of questions.

  • Thanks a lot! =)

  • If you have a PC you might want to look into audacity. It's free, though I don't know how great the quality is compared to other programs.

  • that was genius bro !

  • you´r cool man :) keep it up!

  • awesome!

  • Ahaha! My fav. tag too! We sing it in class and more ^_^ Yay Bass <333

  • hey murry you got any recordings for sale?

  • LOL, that's the first time I've ever been asked that. I've never thought my stuff was high enough quality to sell, though being paid to sing tags would be pretty cool.

  • Thats a great tag! sounds excellent...i have the classic tags book now, so im off to work lol

  • fantastic job!

  • AWESOME!

  • Awesome! :)

  • Bass sounded awesome here!

  • Haha! Thanks, but I am SOOO not a bass! :)

  • Yeah, I hear you, neither am I. That's why I was complimenting you, because It sounds good for a not-bass ;)

Keep up the good work man!

  • omg. this was SO cool. This is my favorite tag ever too!

  • Thanks! I like this one a lot too.

  • Awesome, One of my favorites also

  • haha!!! that was awesome!!!

  • So, I've done one of these, but I don't know how to make it sound as good as the videos that I see of other multitrackers. I've used audacity, but I have sony acid pro six. Either way, what do I need to do to make it sound better. The harmonies are correct, and the cut offs are fine, but I think that I need to add some kind of effect, and I don't know what it is. Can you help?

  • Big O... haha that was truely GODLY... Perfect Cordal Structure

  • Thanks, but I'm no God. Just a fat guy who likes to sing. Glad you liked it!

  • fantastic!!

  • man, i really enjoy watching these! loads of talent, and i think this is my favorite too!

  • would you mind explaining what you did with the EQ and compression and reverb? Im new to multitracking. What program do you use? Im using audacity right now, just wondering how to get those effects on audacity

  • I'll probably do a vid on that eventually. For the EQ it's pretty basic, you want more bass on your bass, and more treble on your tenor. I'm using Garageband and the only effects I have are a touch of compression, a little reverb and some EQ.

  • alright... now which thing on the eq is bass?

  • I don't know much about Audacity. Is it showing you Frequency numbers? If so, the smaller the number the lower the tone.

  • alright i got thanks. now what do i need to do for the compressor? and is reverb the same as echo?

echo says like delay time and decay factor

  • No reverb is COMPLETELY different from echo. I never use echo on a barbershop song. Would mess up the ring.

Sounds like you need to search for some Audacity tutorials. There's lots of them here on YouTube.

  • k. thanks a lot. your video is awesome :D

  • TOTALLY OUTSTANDING!!!!

  • Hey Big O, I have been watching your videos of the tags and have to say I've really enjoyed them. I'm a really "old" barbershopper, 65, and am interested in what your equipment is. I saw the video where you showed that it was a Beringer, but I couldn't pick out the model of it. could you let me know the model # so I could try this.

  • Thanks! I have a Beringer kit that included a mixer, a C-1 mic, headphones, and cables and such. I also have an MXL 990 mic that I use in some of the tags.

  • hey man dont let the screen name scare u im a guy, any way im in choir and we do this tag all the time but i showed my teacher and he loved it and since u had the lead hold was awsome we now do that in class im a baritone but can hit a b flat so i can sing any part on that tag and i just want to say you sound great and keep it up!

  • That's awesome! I'd love to see video of you guys singing that. Post it as a video reply!

  • Woot! That's one of my favourite tags, too.

I wish I could sing all of the parts! Or maybe I can... but the tenor would sound very squeaky and awful!!

    Anyway, I loved that. XD

  • You should try it! The tenor is actually pretty low in this one.

  • i cant send u that video because my teacher wont let me record us just yet but he told me soon i also love your last bass note on sleepy time u belted that! I like your tag u created did any1 use it or put it in a book?

  • Yeah, someone got permission from me to sing in in a concert.

  • hey whats the program you use to get all four of your videos on the same frame??

  • Final Cut Express or Adobe Premiere.

  • wat is the book called again? where can i purchase it?

  • its online somewhere

  • Beautiful.

  • Hey man! Thanks again! Are you going to be posting anymore teaching tag multi-tracks?

  • Yes. I've already got more out!

  • Ledgend!

  • simply amazing.

  • Thanks for this tag man, it's great to see the magic build up like that and really encouraging for other amateurs to try it out for themselves! Keep it up!

  • i absolutely love your tags!!!

  • really nice tag!

    Good and clean voice!

  • Where do you get the splitscreen i just started to experiment singing multiple parts..but this sounds amazing and looks cool with the four seperate frames...hope you'll enllighten me.

You sound amazing love it...extremely talented.

    Auke (amsterdam)

  • Watch my video titled "Big-O Talks About Himself". I talk about it there. I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro, and you can also use Final Cut Express or Pro.

  • Good! Good tag! Nice!

  • Thanks for the teaching aspect, and also for your tutorial. How do you do the video and put it all together? I'm doing beginning work with Garage Band .... but no way to do the video yet. Do most people use Final Cut? I notice that sometimes you're in sync and sometimes out..... help please ???. Thanks so much from a fellow Cheesehead -- formerly of the MVE (5th place intl. chorus medal)

  • I love this haha. Me and my friends did this randomly in an airport yesterday and got lots of applause.

  • Witchmen, gottem gottem!

  • It's an awesome tag! that's for teaching it.

  • WOOHOO

    go tenor

thats what i sing in my barber shop quartet and we did this tag!

  • Thanks big O. I love your work. It is very helpful.

  • that is awesome! i am learning so much on youtube!

  • One of my favorite late-night tags for conventions.

  • Could you please do the, I Want You I Need You I Love You tag? :)

  • i really like your videos. very helpful. could you put "when i leave the world behind" tag up?

  • Meh. That one's never really grabbed me. It's alright I suppose, but there are a lot of other ones I'd rather do first.

  • wait... whats that last bass note?

  • C3 .

  • Nice job! I like to see that you take the time to sing each individual part before pasting them together. Great teaching technique.

  • Can you do the i am tag please? :)

  • Well, honestly I probably won't do that one. I like to focus on ones that either I love a lot, or that haven't been done very much here on YouTube. Unfortunately that one doesn't meet either of those criteria. Feel free to make requests though, I definitely take that into account when deciding what to do next.

  • sweet.

    i love singing these tags.

this one helps me keep the key of C in my head so i can do a major scale from it to work out other notes ;D

  • Did this tag myself(first multitrack,I don't have a head voice so I need a tenor part I can hit with my chest voice)

I Thought it was fun doing multitracks,Im glad you put this video up.

Anyway,go check out it out please, tell me what you think.

  • Hey, I like that. You even played with it a bit, good job.

  • Thanks,Hey...if your looking through tags and notice some that don't go very high(Like, chest voice for tenors, kind of like this one)Then Id love if you'd tell me about them,I think its fun doing these multitracks.

  • Sure, I'll keep a look out. But I have trouble beleiving that you "don't have a head voice". I heard your tag and you don't have a rich bass voice, so I find it much more likely that your head voice is just fine but you haven't developed it. A lot of people don't like what their falsetto sounds like so they never do it.

If I were you I would seek out the high tags and get to work on that!

  • My voice is changing,Sure I don't have a very bassish low voice, but I can still hit those lower notes pretty well...sadly though because of my voice change I lost my head voice(I used to have a pretty good one,but it recently dissapeared within the last year)

  • uhmm... puberty?

in that case, it'll probably come back to ya...

  • Yeah, the same thing happened to me back in the day. I didn't have much of a falsetto at all through my freshman and softmore years in highschool. It came back though :)

  • hahah thanks man. I couldn't figure out that weird bass note when it was taught to me a while back, I've actually got a video of me tripping over it on here hahah.. Thanks. I needed to hear the version done right so I could get that bizaare note in my brain :P

  • AWESOME!!!!!!

  • you should do thier hearts were full of spring! : )

  • I don't know that one. Do you have sheet music for it?

  • I just found it online and recored myself singing each part. If you want to hear, I can email it to you : )

  • man Big O keep em tags comming! im trying to multitrack myself but im a bass and its kinda hard singing tenor!

  • A quick question if you don't mind, do you use Garage Band/a Mac to record these tags? If so, what kind of program do you use to do the video in the four different blocks like that?

  • I do all my audio recording and mixing in Garageband. The video I capture with my crappy web cam and I edit it together in Premiere Pro on my PC. I export the sound file from Garageband into Premiere.

Final Cut can do that on a Mac, but I don't have it.

  • Bah, was hoping for something less.. expensive ;). I'll figure something out, but until then, it's audio-only for me. Thanks, and keep up the good work on the tags!

  • keep those tags coming! haha they are awesome, especillay when im not trying to sing all the parts xD.

  • Superb. Absolutely superb.

  • This is REALLY REALLY good!!! By far the best you've done! It's really really cool that you're teaching the tags also, something I should get better on =)

  • Nice. It's good to have someone teach tags. Thank you for you work.

  • Great job!! Thanks for another great tag!

  • THANK YOU!

  • Excellent tag! This one has always been one of my favorites.
