"Give me an issue, I'll give you a tissue; wipe my ass with it."
I bought this when it came out; I'd forgotten how good it is. I saw Lou at the Bottom Line in '79 or '80 (who remembers). He was f**kin' badass back then. A room full of sweaty shoulder-to-shoulder dancing to a storm of distortion guitar and funk backbeats. Whatta time....
Comedy finds a new meaning. Rock'n'roll's edge is recorded for posterity. A laugh riot is Lou's reason to be right here! This 1978 slice of Sweet Jane is spot on.
total fucking cool man. why is 10 minutes too long for the fucking toob man some one load up street hassle. rock and fucking roll man. nothing else exists. total fucking cool.
For all you youngsters out there, that spinning thing is a vinyl long playing record on a turntable. The precursor to the CD player and before the iPod was even an idea.
I bought this album in Manchester as a young teenager in the late seventies. One of my favourites but lost it in one of my many moves since then.
Great to hear this again with all the verbal jabs. Love to hear WotW off this album again where he rambles on about cripplies in the ghetto and other such nonsense.
Every version of this masterpiece is an astounding lesson about what the rock n roll makes to a mind connected with the rhythm of the life that this song is spreading around as a volcano spreads its glittering flames,i think it true rockn rollmilestone, unforgettable, thousands of stars !!
Yeah...this is almost even better than the 'Rock'n'Roll Animal' version. The best track from this live album though.
4:13'Guess you never put a quarter in'.....;]4:41 'Give Me An Issue'....;]5:59'If You Write as Good As You Talk......;]Chock full of classic one liners.
Uncle Lou was our Colorado boarding school icon, nothing like a little classical music ala Sweet Jane, Heroin and Rock & Roll on the stereo with our Bacardi shooters after dorm check! And ironically we had a set of twin brothers from Laramie, Wyoming!!
Lou took No Prisoners that night at the Bottom Line. Everyone was chained and force fed Lou's Freud digressons, spewing onto Fourth Street within earshot of the Bowery junkies, the 80s prepost modernist.
Awesome! Thanks for posting it! I once went to a Big Truck mud race and my ticket stub was drawn and I won this album! Too bad I no longer have all my albums back fro my high school days! Brings back great memories! :)
Vinyl rules! What's yer turntable set-up, friend? Looks serious. Thanks for posting this, a righteous plastic platter indeed. Ain't heard it in years. A hilarious version of a timeless classic, with Lou at his loosest! "Fuck Radio Ethiopia, I'm Radio Brooklyn. I ain't no snob, man." Ha! Stickin' it to Patti. Lou never minced words, I guess.
When I was a young man in high school, Take No Prisoners changed my life, man.
Great versions of Berlin and Coney Island Baby on there too. Lou at his drunken best. Now that he takes himself to seriously, this album must drive him crazy. Shows how cool he once was. Thanks for posting this.
I think this is the real Lou Reed live all of time. Nothing like this album shows his real nature even as a show man. During those shows at th Bottom Line back in 78 Bruce Springsteen was there. You can hear it by listening "wild side" as he says hi Bruce!! Anyway "I do Lou Reed better than anybody" might be his epitaph
If you like this then check out "Wolfgang's Vault" website. They got a bootleg from 1977 and you can hear it for free. His set list includes a previously unreleased song called "Get Up And Dance Dance Dance". A rocking little ditty in the same vien as "Hot Hips" and "I Love You Suzane". 77-80, what a great period...Nasty Punk rocking Lou!
Unbelievable song I cant stop listening to it! And I just found the ringtone at DownloadEveryTone. com the quality is awesome if anyone wants to get it ..
There must be at least 50 versions of this song on youtube and Lou makes each one a individual masterpiece as only HE can do. I love how he handles a heckler at 05:54... You don't mess with Lou!!
I think there is closer to 50,000 versions of Sweet Jane on youtube. I love when Steven Hunter is ripping the guitar for Lou. Here is a cover I really like..just search youtube for Sweet Jane; Covered by Amazon Charlie & The Tractors
Far and away, without question the greatest live version of a timeless tune. This lp totally floored me when I was in high school. I love how involved the crowd gets.
"Y'ever meet somebody from Wyoming? Not me. Anyway....now Jack, he's a banker.."
this whole double LP is a must have! the 'coney island baby' is just a killer on this and the comedy stuff on 'sweet jane' and 'walk on the wild side' are side splittingly funny!!One of the best and most uncompromising live rock records ever.
it's been years since i've heard it but he does a really moving satellite of love that kills the album version, and a kick ass coney island baby. do the you tube audience a real favor and bring these babies back from oblivion.
Thank you so much for posting that , it's one of my fav lou live LPs .ramble on lou it paints a picture even if it takes 15 or so mins to get through a 5 min rock classic !
