Natural -> a derivative of nature --> In Biology nature is not a standard. No, it's what exists. If something exists then by way of reality it is natural. Unnatural is if a ghost popped out of your wall and started singing the Can-Can. It shouldn't even be a word as it's exactly the same meaning as supernatural. Reality is based in fact as what is not what one wants. Natural is everything besides the ideal.
I was under the impression that all Abrahamic religions preach that god makes no mistakes. If this is true, then how can a perceived imperfection, in this case homosexuality, exist within his creations? There are so many little contradictions within religious scriptures that create defenses for some theories and big gaping holes for others.

Being heterosexual is natural too, but I don't see any religious people arguing that there is anything wrong with that. What it comes down to is not some high moral laws, but the fact that many heterosexual people are not accustomed to homosexuality, are made uncomfortable by it, and therefore condemn it. Religion is just a way to try to codify and rationalize that feeling.
actually they aren't always excommunicated, they are allowed to remain mormon if they practice abstinence and refrain from gay activities such as sex, making out, holding hands, or anything other than platonic friendship.

Earthquakes and volcanoes are natural but judged evil by mans perception of nature, however, they have an essential role in the balance of our world. I would argue the same about homosexuality, it plays a great part in social cohesion (thats from an evolutionists viewpoint too!). I suggest formulating your own beliefs based on what you feel, I can only sense heartache from a religion which considers you an abberation. You seem an intelligent, sensitive handsome guy, so cherish that!
Who says that "gay" has to mean rejecting the importance of family and community? Who says that you should not try to be as moral, ethical, and Christian as you can be? My mom was brought up as a Mormon and rejected it. Even though I am gay, I've never had as much fun as at Family Home Evening. Stay with your church and make it more inclusive, but keep the demands on good character just as they are now.

i dunno on this one. your friend used natural in terms of 'not against nature'. this is a concept well represented in schripture; as even in romans 1 it holds up the 'natural use' of male female relations as a positive standard.
i think there are different uses of the term natural. one is 'according to nature as created by god;, the other is 'carnal, earthly'.
btw i agree..medical science is proving progressively that gay relations are not contrary to the 'order of nature'
