  • overall, the changes are mainly cosmetic. I'm still having trouble with my HDMI out and the VGA on an nVidia 9300. is this because of the ubuntu developers or the guys at nvidia are a bunch of douchebags?

  • Integrate Codega and Wine and let people choose what shell they want to use during installation. Either GNOME or Unity cause my old PC cant handle Unity well.

  • i downloaded ubuntu 11.10 on my netbook and every time I try to connect to the network, ubuntu FREEZES!!!! anyone know a way i can solve this?

  • Interesting. Well I aint leaving arch for ubuntu & unity, since unity was the reason i left ubuntu in the first place, but I will definitively check out 12.04 and see if I might install it on my laptop.

  • OMG ! Ubuntu memang bagus , aku & semua orang Indonersia suka :D

  • Ubuntu is my OS for work and Windows is for games

  • Linux needs itunes, now that would really eliminate my need for windows for my iphone.

  • even if unity is faster screw unity

  • unity should just fork from gnome and leave the old bloated shell behind. If they're going on tv and mobile, this is necessary.

  • I NEED DRIVERS!!! its a pain to find my wireless drivers please more drivers!!!

  • Great! One more year with my great 10.10...

  • Just one thing. What about Unity? I don't like UNity becuase I can't add/move applets, also there is no bar at the bottom to show my windows I have open. Fix that, then I can get used to Unity. I use Ubuntu 11.04 for now.

  • looks the same to me

  • nice video

    love you guys!

    Ubuntu Rocks.

  • All right and good, but GNOME3 still sucks ! ! !

  • Ubuntu needs a default calm theme in blue colors, something like Adwaita in GNOME 3.

  • linux needs one thing, GAMES .. :( So i dont have to boot windows anymore :)

  • @ATB000ATB Just do what I did and buy yourself a PS3. A lot more comfortable gaming experience than on a PC. Now I don't need Windows at all

  • @UnforgivableMen or if you feeling really cheap then go and get your self a wii

  • @UnforgivableMen Ist a bit hard to play league of legends on a ps3

  • @ATB000ATB I'm talking about SERIOUS games like Bioshock, Dungeon Siege etc not browser games..Common man

  • @UnforgivableMen

first, lol is not a browser game.

seccond, there are lot of games, only for pc that i would like to play (keyboard and mouse). high end or not.

  • @ATB000ATB wine

  • @aziliks i tried wine a lot but i always found myself fixing one problem after an other when im using wine or other windows (emulating) software.

  • @ATB000ATB Desura

  • @ATB000ATB and photoshop!

  • If I still can't move the dock to another side of the screen, it still a no go for me. Has a deveopper I use my screen in portrait mode...

  • 2 months left, OMG can´t Wait

  • I really don't wanna hate Ubuntu but the people behind it make it hard not to too.

First off, why are the newer versions not as customizable as previous ones? It feels so restrictive and i can't enjoy it at all.

  • @mmfan15

    i very agree with you

  • ubuncepcion! i am watching this within ubuntu 11.10

  • very stunning now if we can fix certain bugs using Intel core i mobile series(ie: my sony vaio s) it takes way to long to load from a cold boot (all ready posted in the forums and re installed 3 times )

  • @skylinmegas9290 does your laptop have nvidia optimus ? if so have you managed to sort it :/ mine doesnt work

  • @cockyt4523 no it has an intel video processor my sony vaio boots windows 7 under 40 seconds and yet ubuntu boots in about 2 minutes

  • Nice video, but it's more "What's new in Unity" than "What's new in Ubuntu 12.04".

  • @sk8dudejames Adobe will be releasing CS6 on Linux so you can use it on ubuntu. You just have wait little while longer. :)

  • @adityakarri1997 NO WAY!!! Source? Omg I would love to carry around my power netbook instead over my heavy macbook lol.

  • I hope the office suite Libre office will changes their UI to ribbon because it is easier to in my opinion but for people who preferred the old school UI their should be an option so you can choose which every one you prefer

  • LEARN HOW TO FUCKING PRONOUNCE UBUNTU (OO-BOON-TOO) That's the correct pronunciation, go wiki it.

  • this OS is a joke, try Windows 7

  • @Xbox360fanboyer your name already implies you are a complete moron fanboy

This OS is free and can do everything windows 7 can . EVERYTHING and i mean it , YES EVEN WINDOWS GAMES USING a program called WINE !

  • @Cobac

Wine doesn't do everything perfectly, thats why I just use my Ubuntu machine for internet browsing and notes in class. My Macbook still does my REAL needs like photoshop and lightroom WAY better, photoshop SUCKS in Wine, and don't suggest shit like Gimp. GIMP is NO match for photoshop, it SUCKS in comparison. Hell even Picasa SUCKS in Ubuntu and I use that on the daily. Ubuntu isn't there yet.

  • @sk8dudejames definitely has potential... as the most commercialized linux distro, ubuntu has a real future if the software developers would start releasing software for the linux platform. if microsoft made zune software work linux and steam made their games compatible with linux, i would definitely NOT be using windows

  • @naveenc69

It does, and I'm really glad it's becoming more mainstream. It's just not there yet, and I wish it was. I would still be on 11.04 but 11.10 has beter and native support for my Wifi card and drivers. HPDM1z's are(were) hell to run Ubuntu on. The only time I boot into Windows is for Halo or Sonic.

  • @sk8dudejames haha ya the drivers with my printer and all my other hardware worked flawlessly with my ubuntu 10.04... the only thing i had to install was the proprietary ati gfx drivers, which was easy... i feel like more popular software support would REALLY make ubuntu popular, but it's probably because ubuntu is known for it's "free"-ness that the developers dont release paid software... at least that's the i think i don't know for sure

  • @Xbox360fanboyer good job trolling

  • i can't wait for the final release

  • one thing ubuntu need JUST MORE DRIVERS please

scanners and printers and keyboards and webcams =)

  • @nofallyaqoo Well generally those drivers are on most of the manufacturer's websites. They can be a bit of a pain in the ass to setup if you aren't familiar with things like the terminal and such, but until there's a driver standard for it like a .dll for Windows, I don't see it getting to be easy in the near future. Though the fact that Ubuntu can pick up on some drivers automatically like video drivers, is a step in the right direction.

  • @nofallyaqoo I'd rather have my wireless card drivers.

  • @TMuffinProductions

Yup , you'r right about wireless i forget to type that too in my first comment :(

  • @nofallyaqoo thats so true

  • Ubuntu 11.10 was the worst piece of shit ever made. I sure hope you can customize it more like in the previous versions. If not, I guess I'll stay with 10.04 or which to a different distro.

  • to much cpu more than windows and ugler

  • ta bem rapido. muito boa a melhoria na velocidade.

  • I'm still running 10.04 since it came out (Haven't reformatted my computer ever) looks like this may definitely be worth the upgrade. I've run the other unity releases on my laptops and have not been impressed.

  • I Love You Ubuntu 10.10

  • @redabousserhane

i agree best best version was 10.10

  • Does Unity still depend on the awful Compiz WM?

  • didnt show the hud

  • The reason ubuntu will never be as good as osx is because the developers are to busy trying to re-invent the wheel by constantly changing the gui wich only results in a confusing experience for the end user with every release, instead they should focus on making ubuntu specific applications instead of relying on 3rd party apps that are maintained by people that dont give a shit, i can name 5 or more apps that have not worked since 9.04 and have been abandoned but are still available for download

  • i have no idea which version of this i have

  • Se ve genial, y con un buen Ubuntu se viene un buen Eleemntary OS Luna.

  • no one gives a shit about ugly combersome lenses and unmovable side docks, just give us back gnome 2 please.

  • @skilo1983 Look, if you hate Unity so damn much, why the hell don't you just shut the fuck up, install the gawddamn Gnome DE, and keep your negative comments to yourself?? You still have the option to install and go back to "Classic Gnome" or whatever the hell. GOD---all you Gnomefags are so damn annoying. I don't give a shit about Gnome. Fuck Gnome. Quite frankly, I LIKE Unity. Ubuntu 12.04 looks very exciting and it is going to be awesome. Y'all quit yer bitchin'.

  • @thatguyoverthere64 ubuntu 12.04 is GNOME you idiot.

  • ubuntu sucks, try windows vista

  • @Xbox360fanboyer i hope, it was sarcasm...

  • @Xbox360fanboyer lol'd xD

  • Comment removed

  • @Xbox360fanboyer have you ever used vista it's like running a lemon that always breaks down yet ubuntu is like a bmw on steroids and never breaks down

  • I still don't understand why people buy a Mac when for that same money you can get a 5x more powerfull computer with Ubuntu! Might not look as slick as a Mac on the outside, but sure works better on the inside!

  • @manganificent because macs function properly, Image an O/S with the security of linux and the hardware driver compatibility of windows7, thats OSX.

I'm actually planning to build my first hackintosh soon, its gona be sweet.

  • @skilo1983 That's not what I have seen in the office where I work. Most macs here freeze up and are very slow. And they are all brand new iMacs. Perhaps not enough memory? Not enough CPU? For that money they could have gotten a faster PC with Linux.

  • @manganificent probably a RAM issue, i used to have leo installed on my old toshiba satellite with only 512mb of ram and 2ghz intel celeron and it was very snappy and quick.

The applications and such that the computers at your work run are probably resource intensive apps and your machines are probably hammering away at least 8 hours a day.

tell your boss to go to newegg and buy some more ram for those things.

  • @skilo1983 just install wattsos on that age of laptop

  • Im going mint, until I can bloody move the unity bar to the bottom of the screen.

  • @xxFNORDxx you can just google how

  • cuando es que ubuntu por fin va a ser mejor :@

when is that ubuntu is finally going to be better: @

  • So if I were to run 12.04 as it is, will it slowly evolve into the complete package if I update it regularly or will I have to install a build every time a new one is released?

  • @Taima If you were to run 12.04 now, you would get all the updates as they're pushed out.

  • @Taima

    1) Make a backup of your home folder on an external hard drive.

When Ubuntu 12.04 is out, try an upgrade.

If things go wrong, install completely (although now it's rare)

Recover your data from your backup.

Also 12.04 is a long term release with 3 years support. If you're not into trying the latest, stick with it for 3 years :)

  • a try debian sid...live if possible...and evaluate debian..

  • well i start from kubuntu 7.04 ->8.10 kubuntu Ok--> next 9.10 Kubuntu 64 (fucking relase trasparency fucking...fucking ) -> pass to 9.10 ubuntu 64bit-> and then i try 12.04....i hate transparencies, crap pussy..

  • fucking release rather a normal and simple version with no problems.

I'm not interested in transparency, I do not care a shit on the menu.

I want a classic release of ubuntu. Updated in the application and issues..,

  • @flyblu80 a desktop is not a Barbie, is a simple operating system and essential.

  • can i download the alpha?

  • could u post a link to the wallpaper u used in ubuntu 11.10 in the video? :D

  • One thing I'd appreciate for touchscreens would be a Unity button, like in the much earlier Unity releases. Having to install EasyStroke to make a gesture for the Unity menu is a hassle. Unless I missed an option somewhere, this seems like a problem.

  • Wat for a program do you use to make this vid's?

  • this video made me want to shift from gnome shell to unity.. good job canonical!

  • So its stable like WINDOWS 8 DEV PREVIEW

  • these guys are so professional. BBC quality

  • @reezym4

  • looks wonderful. i have 11.10 now and am loving the new features i see here, although i think im gonna just wait until it gets out of alpha before upgrading. good work Ubuntu! :)

  • i uninstall ubunt since its use unity interface

    crappy ui

  • @slier81 just install a new ui like gnome 3 and then modify it to your liking (thats what i did, mine looks like linux mint)

  • Gonna be a great release by the looks of it!

  • Sandy Bridge power regression still present (30% more power at idle) (818830) -- Platforms affected by this power consumption regression are sixth generation i915 GPUs having the following PCI identifiers: 8086:0102, 8086:0112, 8086:0122, 8086:0106, 8086:0116, 8086:0126, 8086:010A.

  • thanks ubuntu. you never fail to impress

  • can you do lubuntu xubuntu veson of Alpha 2 if they exsist

  • Name of the song?

  • Unity 5.2 just barely didn't make it in time for Alpha 2...but it's out now.

Of course, I'm hoping the HUD will make it into the final release. I still find it kinda buggy, but when it works it is simply superb.

  • can we get rid of unity in this one or at least deactivate it cause i really hate unity...

  • @Wildthing1984 Just install GNOME Shell or use one of Ubuntu's official derivatives. Kubuntu, Xubuntu and Lubuntu all offer more traditional environments.

If you're looking for an unofficial derivative, I hear a lot of people prefer Linux Mint, though I'd personally recommend giving elementary OS a look.

  • @Wildthing1984 yes we can in compiz config, we can uncheck unity in the desktop section, but make sure before you do that you have to download cairo dock first.

  • @fmamand well thats a good news !

  • Looks nice :-) Small suggestion, I think it would be easier to follow if first is explained what is changed and only then it is shown. It's going a bit too fast for me.

  • Did I watch this in HD, it looked like 380p :( Anyway great video, just hope they will not change the home lense

  • Comment removed

  • Only waiting for this shit to get Mint LTS.

  • @rayyanputra

They are getting rid of the login sound altogether

  • The autohide menu should use 10 seconds as default settings..this will help newbies..the wallpaper should change too..it looks so...lazy..

other than that i think they must change the login sound also..

  • Any big changes in final version? I like these small tweaks, but what about new features?

  • @1nt3r3sn0 LTS releases should be more reliable and stable than other releases, so new features rarely appear in these releases.

  • Comment removed

  • Still going to put gnome 3 up on that bitch

  • Just keep the option to entering Gnome 3 desktop, please which avoids Unity all together.

  • 12.04 will be probably greatest ubuntu release since 8.04 for me

  • @xttgx u've been using since 8.04? :O

  • @Xaahu i've been using since 7.04... so what? :-D

  • @FilloK83 wow seriously? :O u must be a fuckin ubuntu genius!

  • Nice Voice and very professional.

  • I'm thiking: 11.04 = 12.04, no #

  • Can you guys get rid of the annoying music when you are speaking. It's really distracting.

  • @bsytko I don't find it very distracting. In my opinion it makes the whole video seem a little bit more lively.

  • I hope you fix the damn overheating issues.

  • @ultimokatiting You realize that these are typically due to the PCIE ASPM problems that have been in the Linux kernel itself since 2.6.38, right? You can fix most of them on laptops by adding pcie-aspm=force to your CMDLINE in GRUB2.

  • @ultimokatiting yeah :P but mac overheats more.

  • But can we auto hide the top menu? I would like full screen...

  • @LinuxGDog1666 with global menu its full screen already if any window is maximised, doesn't it?

  • Cheers

  • 100th like. This is great. Stable already, I like it. Finally Canonical put stability in first place.

  • @Justinba1010 this is a long term release though? it is all about making it stable and not too many changes

  • nice video ! great work !

  • /me likes it

I just hope that instead of focusing on UI they could focus more on, for example, hibernation etc.

  • Unity sucks. Package Cinnamon. Make sure gnome-session-classic (gnome-panel) gets love.

  • "Few App Crashes"? Compared to what?

Normal Ubuntu Releases? Ubuntu Alphas? Ubuntu Betas?

When 12.04.1 comes out, (first iso patch) I believe it's fair to expect the Stability to be between Debian Testing and Debian Stable.

Oh, that Music is awesome! I want a copy of the master!

  • Fantastic, very well done

  • "Love" the changes for this desktop but, I STILL DON'T LIKE UNITY!!! I prefer to be able to customise my desktop as I wish. I have to be compiling my version of Ubuntu just have something with Gnome (2) out-of-the-box.

  • FRIGGIN ALPHA1 keeps crashing and full of bugs :( can't wait for the new stuff

  • cool being using 11.10 on dual screen and hate seeing two sets of try icons

  • looks good cant wait may not wait and start playing, anyway what about dual screen support

  • @biggermdc The 'new and improved' multi-monitor stuff is coming in the next update to Unity. It wasn't quite ready in time for today's release.

  • This a excellent runthrough video. No unnecessary pauses and it shows what it has to show. Just excellent. Love OMG, great work as always.

  • okey done ... am upgrading 2day !

  • good job all ubutnu countributers

  • sweet bro

  • So far so good... this release looks to be becoming EPIC :)

  • finally! quicklists by defaut! :)

what about the customizations options? are they really going to remove compiz from the repositories in 12.04?

  • @guisoneka There was a debate about removing the CompizConfig-Settings Manager, not Compiz itself - Unity is a compiz plugin after all ;)

But i'm led to believe that CCSM will remain in the repos for 12.04.

  • I also noticed that 12.04 is incredibly stable already. Alright, some stuff still crashes now and again (while testing HUD mainly) but other than that it just feels really good!

  • good

  • Digging the song.

  • @UbuntuBrandon Cheers! Took me longer to find the 'right' song than to edit the whole thing :P

  • @UbuntuBrandon I downloaded it from songcloud, It's Arpanauts by Eric Skiff
