I have exactly the same problem with my sony bravia screen, I bought the TV over 2 years ago and paid £1200 for it...I'm very anoyed about this as its gone wrong after the warranty has expired!! Not Happy but very disappointed by this, just before christmas aswell.... :-(
I brought a "Sony Bravia 46" Class 1080p LCD HDTV, KDL-46S504" in 12/2009 (unless than 2yrs) now my TV has a 2 inch black line on the bottom of the TV & it looks like it's getting worst. Very disappointed in Sony TV products. Always brought Sony because of it name. Now I'm going to Samsung. My sister brought 1 & the picture is beautiful & color is so bright!!!!
@Lucylovessurfin My Sharp Aquos 46'' has seen about 4-5 hours a day of use for the last 3 1/2 years, and it looks just as nice as the day I plugged it in. They say Sharp's backlight is guranteed to last 60,000 hours, if thats the case I have only been through about 6,000 hours of backlight, only 1/10th of that. I always tell everyone wanting to buy a T.V to do their research, if it just came out give it 6 months, multiple sources.
In reality, for a set that costs this much, they should repair for free, no doubts. I feel however for those that could develop this fault at a later point of ownership that may be left out in the long grass to pay and sort the problem themselves...
I was fortunate in that Sony UK agreed to pay for the repair as the TV was less than 2 years old. But it took a fight, many recorded letters, faxes, etc.
Hi all, what I can tell you, is that whatever the issue was, the entire panel had to be replaced - not cheap... If it was something cheap or easy to repair they would not have gone to this level.
I have the exact same tv same problem here. I understand why Sony is going to bankrupt. $3300 Bravia xbr became junk in 14 month right after warranty expired!
ALL DO NOT BUY THIS TV. IT GOES FINE FOR A WHILE THEN THE SCREEN GOES DARK ON ONE SIDE AND FLASHES. I COMPLAINED TO SONY,AND STILL WAITING FOR THEM TO GET BACK TO ME.
I am having problems with my Sony 2 months out of warranty. Sony refuses to fix it and I am screwed. I have had the TV for 14 months now. Thats sad for a Sony TV I wish I knew what to do but I cannot afford to get it fixed if its possible or buy another one. I wish I had bought another brand but I have always had Sony TV's. My last one I had for 23 years before it went out and never had service. Now Im SOL with no TV and Sony wont do anything for me. Nothing.
@Maximas7474 Sony doesn't even do repairs on TVs that are in warrenty, they want you to send it to some place called "norman's elcetonics" (same place Samsung uses too) just look them up and give a ring, they do pretty good repairs for a decent price (provided they decide to show up on time for their appointments).
@QuickSixx aside from the fact that most Samsung sets lag more than any other tv on the market, have a poor color accuracy, and they don't do their own repairs.
I have the same model and have had exact problem as what the video is showing. The light flashing when first turned on and will go away for few minutes (I also realized that it's taking longer to recover every time). Have you fix it? I saw someone said that Sony is going to fix it for free. Is this true? Thanks!
i agree with all of you. I am facing similar problem. Lots of shadows in my screen and they seem to be moving in slow motion. I hope Sony takes cognizance of this fact and does something about it. Otherwise they will lose lots of loyal xustomers.
I have the same problem and it's just getting worse! I have read other comments that Sony will fix it for free but that has not been my experience. I have the 52" version of this set with a build date of Jan. 2008. I paid about $3,000 for it. I've owned it for just over 2 years and it is now junk. I will NEVER buy another Sony product and urge thers to boycott Sony as well.
@raserguy1 Dear raserguy, I am intending to buy a Sony 3d tv. My old Sony has slightly fading color and I think I'll update. I've had it since new in 1994, it has never had a service. . May be I was lucky with that old one. Cheers. from, del-boy.
Try switching outlets. I had a voltage issue once with my old Sony. I'd shut it off and it was still glowing. I could put my finger on the tv and rainbow like patterns would follow my finger. But mainly though it was a bright white dot. I brought it in for repair and they kept it on for a week solid and no issues. I bought it in '95, it's been moved around 50+ times & still works great. This problem only happened when living in a large apt. complex.
Apparently; its a substandard/poor soldering point. As the tv is turned on and off, the solder warms and cools. Eventually it 'cracks' and causes the display issue. As tv (solder connection ) warms up, the metal expands and 'seals' connection, thus improving display/picture after 10-15 mins or w/eva... i had mine replaced under warranty (approx 10mths in..) - they said it was a bad 'batch' , however it is now doing the same again after another 10 mths .. :-(
@KONAGUYHAWAII mine does if you shake it but its gotten worse just random lines of lights now but goes back to normal after it warms up and a couple shakes
Hey are you still under warranty ? Cuz if you are then you have to report problems with your panel cuz I had the same problem and many others did too . Sony TV's look great but are cheaply made.
I didn't fix it cuz it cost over $1,800 dollars just to fix it . If you're still under warranty then call then and harrass them and tell them that it's a factory defect and that you're gonna get a lawyer and sue them for selling lemons cuz it worked for me and they gave me what the tv was worth !
@caliconnect619 they are pretty much all cheaply made. the thing that ticks me off is that they do this shit on purpose to sell more tvs which is really just hurting these companies in the long run when people view them with a stigma and wont touch their products. they cut costs on things like capacitors that are cheap to begin with and use caps rated for lower voltages and place them in areas where they are subjected to more heat in order to assure a timely demise and sell protection plans
I have a 32 inch Bravia that will click when u turn it on and the screen never turns on

Best of luck to any of you with a similar issue - this set is way too expensive to go wrong at 5 years, never mind less than 2 years!

Sony use to be good many years ago but they suck now and are overpriced. They just had a recall for 1.6 million LCD's for overheating.

I had this problem, Sony had to replace the display panel under warranty. Out of warranty might as well buy a new tv. Sad isn't it?
