  • Thumbs up if you think a Tesla Girl would own a Holla Back Girl xD

  • Tesla coils? Something to do with Nikola Tesla, engineer? Tesla, the unit of magnetic flux density? WTF?! I think they were just trying to sound clever.

  • Awesome group, awesome song................long live the 80s!

  • So cheesy.

  • Wasn't this song in Weird Science?

  • haha did anyone else google what the fuck a tesla girl is?

  • @bringMETHEHORIZON909 i'm assuming tesla coils, as in those things in the salon.

That woman is crazy if she's waking up in high-heels every morning. D:

  • the hook sounds like Ultravox, reap the wild wind

  • my favorite omd song

  • love this band so much i love their songs 1 of the best ever band has been created...

  • This was the officer dance from 85-87. Awesome choreography I still remember 20+ years later.

  • Just to think they're on tour right now.. UNBELIEVABLE!

  • Just to think they're on tour right now.. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!

  • Not one of their best

  • @sh1ne0nUCrazyDiamond Not one of their best? You must be kidding. I'm in love with Tesla Girls!

  • unforgettable song ! and they were ahead of their times with such a songs...

  • awesome group, saw them recently "supporting " Simple Minds at Wembley Arena, The Minds were great but I would happily have left after the amazing OMD set and glad to see Andy McCluskey still performing the geography teacher dance!! roll on 29th and the gig at Brighton Dome.

  • somebody please give us a time machine so we can go back to this era where the music is CLEAN and FUN to listen to :)

  • @jcmary24 Totally agreed. Why do we need GaGa telling us about her 'Poker Face' when we can just listen to these dreamy keyboards and awesome, catchy lyrics. 80S FOREVER!

  • looking forward to their gig in Glasgow on 3rd Nov

  • Bring back the 80's please

  • great stuff..!!

  • We play this song at work! I love it!

  • TESLA IS@GENIUS

  • The ultimate dance band - go and see them in concert ..... the balcony at Hammersmith was bouncing when I saw them as so many people were up and dancing! Andy McCluskey was recently writing for some modern girlie band who can thank him for launching them to fame.

  • we love new wave

  • Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark has got to be THE BEST band name ever. As a long-time fan I'm glad these are here for viewing, instead of having to watch my grainy VHS recodings I made from local video shows during the 80's.

  • the woman in vid is beautiful.

  • ♥♫♥ great song ♥♫♥

  • was für tolle teen-erinnerungen :D

  • anyone know who the models are

  • The greatest intro to any song, ever!

  • j'aime bi1cette chanson que de souvenir parmi tant d'autres

  • @IWannabeJew, I think you'll find models look like models nowadays, just like they did then.

Great song. The '80s will always rule for me. I saw OMD live back in the day. Fab!

  • The only thing that would make this song better, is if it where titled "TELSA BOYS" !

  • Man, those legs kicking up out of the bath tub. You don't see legs like that, anymore!

Even the young women have deformed-looking figures, these days. Poochy-bellies and swaybacks. It must come from sitting around doing nothing all day.

  • its just a bloody good pop song end of story

  • Tesla Girls!

  • this band is brilliant.

  • i remember hearing this on now that's what i call music 4 and was instantly hooked on OMD ever since

  • OMG, I was like barely 2 yrs old when this came out! LULZ!

  • Thanks to this song I became aware of Tesla. Very interesting guy. WHen I watched the Prestige, I thought of this great song. :P

  • cant beat 80's music

  • OMD were so good, real talent.

  • Electric toasters, hair dryers, refrigerators, and best of all the clapper which these girls hacked into the snapper. My god, technology was moving so fast in the 80's!

  • @aetherspace lol, this video was kind of alluding to the 50's, I think.

  • @IWannabeJew I think so, but i think it also refers to another thing.

  • There is nothing about this song that makes me think that the band should be named "Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark." There is nothing remotely orchestral about their music.

  • @sohaveiforyou83 don't you listen to the way this song was created? it was composed and written like anything for an orchestra. god, why are people such music snobs???? just enjoy the music for fuck's sake!!!!!

  • @sohaveiforyou83 I wouldn't call this song one of the better examples of that quality of their music.

  • The 80's was the bomb..

  • saw them live with simple minds in 1995 Absolutely brilliant

  • @pykeranger saw them open for The Thompson Twins in like 85...that was a show...lol

  • Adore the music of OMD!!! but their videos ?

  • Fucking supurb!!!

  • THIS SI AWSUM

  • Such an awesome video; we really need the unabashed campiness of the 80s back again!

  • Lets not forget the inventor Nicola tesla that good old "UN SUNG" hero...

  • what phaery said times pi.

  • Thank you so much for posting. Forever ... That's what I absolutely love about YouTube. All those vid's and fantastic music are wonderful time-travellingmachines. My '80's playlist is getting longer & longer, lol. The more, the better ... Can't get enough of OMD, Yazoo etc. etc I'd totally indulge myself with their fantastic music from the '80's. Thank you once again for posting !!

  • ah, memories of highschool. We used to be able to have one song played over the PA system during morning announcements, and this was one of them. We also used to torture people with the likes of King Crimson and the Gruesomes. :)

  • My children love this song for it reminds them the many times I tell them "NO"

    Juan Alejo

  • If there are any Tesla girls left out there, please get in touch!

  • Totally agree!!

  • Yeesh ! Lots of speculation in these comments. I went to OMD's website and they explained that the title Tesla Girls came from Peter Saville's girlfriend who was Martha Ladly, keyboardist from Martha and the Muffins. It didn't really mean anything, but they took the title and made a song out of it. Martha also came up with the title for their album "Architecture and Morality". Do some research people... it's not that hard.

  • dont know if its just me or not but really feel like the music from omd always had and has a much deeper meaning then what you hear up front kinda like a read between the lines sort of thing maybe its just me

  • sorry...i hit the wrong thumb...really sorry!!!

and, no, it's not just you, it really is like that...at least to me!

perfect music for conspiracy freaks (like me...lol)

  • Yeah!!...this is the song that is in the background of Weird sciencE.(mall scene)....cool!!

  • Yup, and Lisa was a Tesla Girl.

  • Yup that's where I first heard it.

  • No one knows what Tesla REALLY did unless they read Secrets of Cold War Technology

  • Recently was published the book "Izmaglica pod Kapelom 2". It is the book about Military Frontier in the Austro-Hungarian Empire ...And one of the family described in the book, is the family of Nikola Tesla. Unfortunately the book is only in Serbo-Croatian language available.

I am amazed, how many people are still inspired by Tesla to be creative....

  • I bought this album when it first came out, and have seen OMD live several times in the early 80s and much more recently too. I am also reading a biography of Nikola Tesla (Wizard) at the moment, and suddenly this song makes a lot more sense to me! Tesla was a genius and this song still sounds absolutely great! Andy McCluskey's bass is amazing.

  • No, no, no, no, no!

    Juan Alejo

  • Młode lata przypominają się

  • God most of those girls will be grandmothers by now! Tesla Grannies Tesla grannies...

  • Haha it wasn't that long ago ...

  • @turbomonkey138 Yes it was! Most of these "girls" will be in their 50's with grown up children if not grandkids!

  • @densaner77 LOL, I am far from grandkids!! This was my time...graduated in '89. Happy to see people enjoying it. Try Book of Love, Vicious Pink, Berlin-Metro and Sex (I'm a.....

  • @densaner77 LOL, I am far from grandkids!! This was my time...graduated in '89. Happy to see people enjoying it. Try Book of Love, Vicious Pink, Berlin-Metro

  • @densaner77 My daughter would not agree. It was so great!! Checkk out Vicious Pink Take Me, I am far from grandkids. Graduated in '89. I still feel like a girl. Even some of The Bangles- Hazey Shade of Winter

  • @lulubug4808 Tesla Grannies, Tesla Grannies...

  • @densaner77 Funny!! But so true.....My daughter IS in high school now LMAO, just don't feel my age....

  • @densaner77 Don't screw with my fantasy!

  • @IWannabeJew. Tesla Grannies, Tesla Grannies...

  • @densaner77

Everybody ages. Hot today granny tomorrow.

  • @bdmru1980. True. A granny, a Tesla Granny!

  • BIG SONG***************

  • Actually the song is about people that use technology and don't know how they work. This is some sort of philosophical idea. So the girl that has a shallow interest in appliances and beauty actually are worshiping the god of technology. Tesla invented the coil that heats air in hairdryers etc.

  • @EarlyLAPunk Thank god for geeks like you man, I mean that in a very nice way you clever gloggs lol

  • this song is more true today then ever with all the Electronic components there are in everyday life.

  • Timeless, wouldn't you say? I still listen to it, my son loves it and my nephews... Wasn't it the best?

  • @EarlyLAPunk Ahhhhhhhhhh! You're the first person to convincingly explain this theme of the video to me.

    Now it makes sense.

  • @EarlyLAPunk im a women, when i saw this title, i thought about a tesla unit (T) from a physics equation. but im not the norm.

  • Excellent song...80's sync pop new wave at it's finest...

  • this is such a damn good song! the lush chords behind the hook give it a great unique musical and tone. the sounds of a real bass contrast great with the digital instruments so it dont sound too 80's. i love it. and the chicks are hot

  • GREAT DAYS!

  • wasn't life much better before crack and meth led to the violence and decay of society?

  • @yourinurine2 lol! but yes, you are so, so right.

  • @yourinurine2 Back then it was LSD, cocaine and pot.

  • i want a tesla girl

  • @nelson3512 me too

  • I love the electronic drum sounds created by the Emulator. And that person who says this video is lame must be blind to the sheer awesomeness of this video.

  • Such a fun song.

  • What is a TESLA GIRL?

Tesla is the name of a music promoter or record company and he employed sexy models.

So the band called them Tesla girls?

So the song is about meeting the girls at tesla office

  • I really wish they tour again..just saw the Pet Shop Boys and was incredi

  • this is probably my favorite song of all time. i also was a teen when this came out and i loved many o.m.d. songs but this one i can listen to over and over.

  • yeah..

  • its funny the way people in 80s videos have guitars, even though there arent any in the tune! good tune

  • Thats a bass, and its used in all of the songs XD

  • Love this song, one of my faves of theirs. I'm from liverpool myself and still love these now.

  • brilliant song and gorgeous ladies yumm

  • Comment removed

  • tune of the 80's ...brilliant o.m.d, its like having a royal flush.... the nuts ! just brilliant .

  • Do the Tesla Girls really even know? Have you seen "The Pretsrige"? It gets me. I love David Bowie!

  • Tesla Girls??? lmao idk whos nerdier...these guys or kraftwek...but i love it!

  • i had this song going through my head for hours tonight but couldnt remember the group, but found it here...thanks mate

  • Wasn't lucky to be born when OMD were at the height but i'm making up for it now. My mp3 is full of classics by OMD, Depeche Mode and New Order. You 80s kids were spoilt.

  • Don't forget Human League, Yaz, Erasure...

  • I was 20 when this song came out. You are so right about the 80s, it was a decade and as long as there are ytoung people like you keeping it all alive it will never die!!

  • Yes, we were. Glad to say I experienced the era in my teens and 20s. It was a superb musical time.

  • Gotta agree there, music was so cool back then. Especially in the UK! I loved the clothes too.....seriously! LOL!

  • @ColumRogers My daughter would not agree. It was so great!! Checkk out Vicious Pink Take Me, Pet Shop Boys, Berlin

  • @ColumRogers But the one thing that 80's doesn't have is the Internet and the Apple Ipod, and other techie gadgets...

  • @Supersweetguy We had something very much like the internet for the Commodore computer. It was called Q-Link. The text chat they had was very similar to IRC, what people used a lot in 1996.

  • @IWannabeJew I read an article regarding the IRC, back in 1998, which people used then. It was new for me, but i found out to be interesting.

  • @Supersweetguy Yeah, it was a fairly powerful and useful bit of software. Dangerous, too, if you didn't quickly tweak certain settings.

  • @IWannabeJew Yes, it is.

  • @ColumRogers Yeah, the 80's was magically delicious! Real Life was another good one.

  • @ColumRogers You are right, I am an 80's kid and I think I was brought up in the best music era, and I do feel lucky

  • Oh that little 80s step he does and the counter-movement of the shoulders.

What a bunch of techno freaks we were then. The 80s were FUN FUN FUN. The dancing was GREAT.

  • wow! havent heard since 9th grade when i owned album. this is great to see hear and know some people still remember. btw: for post below, Tesla was a wacky scientist who believed - among other theories- that electrical appliances cls be plugged into ground for energy source.

  • "Wacky"? The man was a genius :

"Nikola Tesla (10 July 1856 7 January 1943) was an inventor and electrical engineer. He is frequently cited as one of the most important contributors to the birth of commercial electricity, a man who "shed light over the face of Earth,"[2] and is best known for his many revolutionary developments in the field of electricity and magnetism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.... he helped usher in the Second Industrial Revolution." (Wikipedia)

  • Ah the beautiful sound of OMD, Can anyone hear the Emulator sampler it makes the speeded up drum machine effect. New Order another band i loooooooooooooooove used the same instrument on the classic Blue Monday. I discovered this on my mum's tape Now 4 and it was like an epiphamy it was amazing. But i'll never understand why Tesla Girls isn't up their with the other classic OMD songs such as Enola Gay.

  • Clearly this video is about women who really, really like electrical appliances. I mean, REALLY like them.

  • yep,,, thanks to WIKIPEDIA. I couldn't catch this!!!!!

  • Me too :)

  • 153 years since the birth of Nikola Tesla - according to google. And this is what prompted me to search for this video on youtube & I'm so glad I did. A fantastic song from OMD- thankyou!

  • Funny and fabulous.

    Love OMD.

  • What exactly is a Tesla Girl?

  • Gee!! I'm in love with Tesla girl at 2:52. So beautiful

  • I would listen to this driving on the Hollywood Freeway in L.A. feeling all was possible!

  • Wow..I don't half like toast....Orgasmic man...

  • Nostalgic...

  • Ahhhh OMD.What a band!

  • the melody was soooooo fantastic XX years ago...

    Just as it now is)

  • God I miss the 80's! :)

  • I always thought the song was about two Dominatrixes with Violet Wands. LOL!

  • Never realised that another favourite video of mine, chemical brothers - let forever be, must have been heavily influenced by this. Great song. Not much eighties music comes close but this really does sum it up.

  • I dont think anything could sum up the 1980's better than this song and video.

  • I love this song- a guilty pleasure

it's almost disco- OMD doing Dead or Alive!

    it's awesome

  • i think this song came first than dead or alive and the rp are a litle slow.

some blink to dance music, experience, since they bet in melodie.

  • I recall Peter Powell asking Andy McCluskey what a 'Tesla Girl' actually was.

The answer seemed to be just another of his usual heroines who featured so much in OMD songs.

Best bit of song: 3: 17 onwards until the fade ... that thuddy drum-sound and percussion. Great !

  • what a song ....its the 80's :)

  • Fantastic song though my stepdad thought it was "testicles!"

I think Andy McCluskey has a vague resemblance of a young Simon Cowell

I would be interested to hear Paul Humphreys gentle harmony without Andy's booming voice dominating

  • "No! No! NO!" The Best part of the song.

  • That's the only part of the song I dislike. They should have excluded it. It gets annoying after a while.

  • I'm a Tesla Girl- I thought I was the only one!

  • One of the great songs of the 80's. The 12" single version is even better.

I have yet to figure out (after more than 20 years) wtf this song is about though.

  • Neither have I, and I too, think it is one of the best of the 80's. I would like to think it had something to do with Nikola Tesla, but how that translated in Tesla Girls is a mystery.
