It's a router. You can have as many computers as you like behind the UMR.

will this enable me to do port forwarding? the e960 is missing a lot of features.

absolutely, as the E960 can be used strictly as a USB modem with the UMR. You can do port-forwardin and all the countless services which are available in the UMR. Check out the latest 2.0 firmware of the UMR. Mighty impressive set of features.

Hey its me again. My E960 doesn't seem to have a USB port on it, but I bet if I open it up, I'll see a USB port. The service provider who sells the modem is trying to severely restrict functionality on their network. There is no advanced configuration in the web interface for very common features like port forwarding. It is sad. I am going to see if USB exists, and if so, plunk down money for the UMR to get the features I want.

iamdegenatron: I'm waiting to see if there comes a time when DD-wrt supports HSDPA / EDGE / UMTS modems such as huawei 's on Linksys routers such as the WRT350n, which do have USB ports on them.

Well, they were talking about supporting the Huawei E960 on openwrt tickets in 2007 so I imagine a device must have been donated since then for the developers to begin adding support. I mean, the system is built on busybox and has a terminal open on port 23 as far as I know, so porting openwrt or tomato shouldnt be hard. But the HSDPA 3g might be a problem with linux compatibility with the hardware?

Are there any other routers besides the Dovado UMR that you can plug the E960 into? I'm a Linksys fan and I have a WRT54G but it has no USB on it :( I'd rather buy Linksys routers if I have to get something in order to make my E960 do what REGULAR routers are supposed to do.
