  • I was in Marfa 3 years ago and a friend dragged me out to see those lights, i had no interest in them until i actually saw them. This is some shitty footage. What i saw was 3 or 4 lights moving up and down very fast across huge areas of the sky. By huge areas, i mean an area miles wide and high. I am a skeptical person, but i had no idea what i was seeing. I dont see how a mirage can make car lights jump three miles up in the sky, and then shoot 3 miles horizontally in a matter of seconds.

  • The spectrograph is limited so do not put any faith it its results which also relies on satellites. That useless equipment cannot see anything. If the Marfa Lights cannot be seen from the air then neither can car headlights so that does not make any sense. Satellites are used to make many types of maps so if the satellites cannot be trusted you better stop using maps. Telluricfields videos are inaccurate and lack methodology so the study is wrong. Marfa Lights are a mystery.

  • This study is wrong.

  • Marfa Lights are cannot be solved at this time.

  • There are some facts that narrow the debate: (1) first published report: 1957), (2) Lights cannot be seen from the air, (3) hyperspectral data ruled out all potential sorces but reflections (and mirages), (4) the 3-D imagery has already been done and be seen on M.Lights Part II, Marfa Lights Optics, and Marfa Lights FAQ, all published by Telluricfields. BTW, don't rely too much on satellites - they record only during daylight hours.

  • @IESigma You are WRONG! You have NEVER been to see the Lights. You do NOT know how to do proper research. All you can do is rely on the internet. Go to the Library and you will find the TRUTH. Take my word as a witness that the Lights are a mystery.

  • @IESigma Wrong first report of the Marfa Lights came from a cowboy in the 1880's who was out on the range one night with the herd when he witnessed the phenomena. Get your facts straight.

  • @sandosrules I rarely get to my ML pages anymore, since I've moved on to other areas. You, however, must follow scientific protocol. YOU make a claim - YOU BACK IT UP. Not me, YOU. I published my hyperspectral data, ground video, 3-D maps, USGS aerials, and combined it all into a working hypothesis. I didn't tell you or anyone else to do it for me. I listed my references, sources, and methodology. You wanna claim cowboys saw the lights in the 1880s publish the reference. YOU publish it.

  • @sandosrules Actually, the first published account of the lights was written in 1957. All other claims of older anecdotes concerning sightings of the lights comes from second-hand, unverifiable evidence after that time. Most of it from the internet and fringe TV series like Unsolved Mysteries, etc.

Couple this with the fact that Marfa has a yearly festival and actively promotes them for the purposes of tourism, and I think you know as well as I do that they are completely bogus. It's bunk.

  • Agree. The LIGHTS are really a mystery. Car headlights can be seen but are NOT the Marfa Lights. Even if someone did a simple map google and looked at the satellite view it is obvious the highway everyone keeps talking about is in a different area. My personal experience is that the LIGHTS are NOT car lights. The stupid study only shows that cars drive at night on highways,no one disputes that nor that they can be seen from the viewing station. FACT=Marfa Lights are a TOTAL UNSOLVED Mystery.

  • all these comments saying they are just car lights! people these reports have occurred since the 1800's by the settlers of that time. there was NO highway nor cars. they've been reported to change altitude, color, and stay "on" for mere seconds to hours!

  • MARFA LIGHTS PROVEN REAL. The Truth. The university experiment determined that car headlights can be seen at night on the highway and that is used through the mountains night and day. In daylight, cars can be seen on the highway which use the same exact highway in the dark with lights on. When people look at the highway at night they can see, drum roll please, car headlights as well as MARFA MYSTERY LIGHTS. People can tell the difference already. The lights do NOT follow a pattern.

  • I'll repeat the part you are NOT paying attention to.THE MARFA LIGHTS HAVE BEEN PROVEN TO BE REAL. You cannot handle the Truth can you? The university experiment determined that they are car headlights can be seen at night on the highway and that there is a highway that cars can use through the mountains. In daylight, cars can be seen on the highway which use the same exact highway in the dark with lights on. When people look at the highway they can see, drum roll please, car headlights.

  • Those are corona from the transmission lines. Duh!

  • Those are corona from the transmission lines. Duh!

  • Notice that people are rating down the comments that point out what they are--car headlights. It's been PROVEN that they're car headlights. Some people just don't want to accept the truth.

  • @bonchbonch Bonchbonch is right, and although many are dissapointed, it is true that there are two complimentary hard science studies. UT Dallas SPS definitively correlated cars with the Lights, and my hyperspectral study ruled out everything but reflection (or maybe some mirages too). Stop that "1888" crap! Ellison never mentioned them. The first publication was in 1957.

    Telly Fields

  • @IESigma You are wrong too

  • @bonchbonch You should know about people not accepting the truth since you cannot accept the FACT that Marfa Lights are really real and are NOT just car headlights. And that is the Honest to God TRUTH.

  • I live out here and have seen the lights on several occasions. Sometimes it's a really good show and sometimes there will be nothing to be seen. I've only seen a really good show once. And, I tell ya what, it wasn't car lights I'd seen. I'm sure of that. What is just as entertaining as the show are the stories from persons who KNOW what the cause of the light energy is. I've heard all kinds of tales. X-craft tests, alien buggery, restless spirits... Still, I prefer the tales over "car lights".

  • people have seen these lights since 1888. 1888 is well before cars and electricity. its a phenomena that scientists are studying and they would surely know its not car headlights. that the stupidest statement in these comments. and TSM8088, dont be an idiot, you arrogant wannabe intellectual. blanket generalization from a snowbound donkey.

  • I think they should put live web cams..they are real I have seen them before we pass threw there to go to eagle pass tx this lights change color, blink move around .We tried to record put as we tired to record the cam corder made a pop sound.

  • I like how the area where the lights exist has a highway directly running through it, yet people still insist it's not car headlights.

  • Well this video is definitely car headlights, if you watch when the guy isn't moving the camera, you'll notice the lights move in a slow and even way. Just put your mouse on the light and watch how evenly they move.

  • Not only that, but a group of university students did some tests in 2004 and conclusively determined it was car headlights winding down the highway.

  • @bonchbonch Great for the University school. The ONLY thing they proved is that cars actually drive on roads in the dark with the headlights on so they can see the road. What a shocker! You have made a brilliant discovery. Congratulations. Marfa Lights are REAL.

  • @bonchbonch They are NOT all car headlights. You have ZERO proof they are not an anomoly. Do us a favor. Get a CLUE.

  • the lights comes from rocks containing quartz that expand during the day and contract at night

  • nah dude there real it just phenomena tsm8088 they have seen them for long time at night everyday.

  • 10:47:50 on video: "All of 'em are gone now." "We must've scared 'em off!"

Simple answer: The people in the cars had to get home by 11:00 pm to watch re-runs of "Hee Haw"!

Seriously, These are clearly just cars travelling along a distant highway.

    lol...Only in Texas.

  • You need to go to Marfa and see for yourself. Open your mind.

  • right around 6:00 is pretty impressive footage. thanks for the footage!!

  • If you look to the sw you will see car lights & maybe the Marfa Lights. However, there is a plaque at the viewing site that says to look to the se, where there are no paved roads. That would be to the left of the radio tower, not the right. Also, it's very quiet out there, if you listen carefully, you can hear the cars that are making lights. I live in Marfa, but haven't been to see the lights in a while.

  • They are car lights, from vehicles winding down the mountain on highway 67.

  • the footage around 6:00 proves you wrong!! why the lights on the extremities appeared first ??? why not all evenly and one after another from the SAME spot!! this is what cars on a road would do right??? so explain the fact that those lights appear the way they do???

  • There has already been a university experiment which determined that they are car headlights. There's a highway right over there which weaves through the nearby mountains, and in daylight, you can see the cars take the same path the lights do. The angle of the road and the darkness at night creates an optical illusion. Come on, people, it's 2010--time to stop believing in goofy things.

  • ill repeat the part you don't seem to have read : why the lights on the extremities appeared first ??? why not all evenly and one after another from the SAME spot!! this is what cars on a road would do right??? so explain the fact that those lights appear the way they do???

  • And I'll repeat the part you ignored--a scientific experiment has already been performed which determined that automobiles in the distance, traveling the winding highway in the mountain, correspond to the location of the lights at night. They even used a tracking vehicle and were able to follow its location and the corresponding light it produced, visible from the viewing spot. THE MARFA LIGHTS HAVE ALREADY BEEN DEBUNKED.

  • @bonchbonch WRONG As Usual

  • @bonchbonch dude i can ALMOST PROMISE you if you were to go see them firsthand, your opinion would totally change. . . dude they change colors. . .

  • @santjime I have seen them firsthand. They followed a predictable pattern. I don't know what else to tell you--it's been proven that they're the headlights of vehicles traveling on Route 67.

  • @bonchbonch haha welll i believe you, its just disapointing lol

  • @bonchbonch Negative feedback is just as good as positive feedback. Too bad the Marfa Lights are still as real now as they were eons ago and will still be real eons from now, before cars and long after cars. Notice how some people have such a small and little brain that they cannot see past their own nose. Too bad they are WRONG. Marfa Lights are 100% REAL PERIOD. NO one has ANY proof otherwise, Never have and NEVER will.

  • Dear rlmarr,

Can you limit your comments to say, one of the five videos I've put on YouTube? It takes a lot of space and many readers, like me, would be scratching their heads over your "Research Methodology Help."

  • elkie is a skeptic. Scientists from all over the world have been to this site to find out what the lights are, and to this day, NO one has been able to determine as to what causes them.

  • Go to w w w. n i g h t o r b s. n e t I found it very enlightening. (sorry for the spaces.)

  • A googled your website and foud they're database is dwn. So much for proof beyond saying it's a mirage. Apparently its a mirage undiscovered up until this point in science, as it lacks the properties of any other Fata Morgana mirage which is what the majority of most skeptics say it is

  • They could even reproduce the phenomenon! If anyone is interested you can read their findings at spsnational.o r g

So I'm afraid that the whole thing has been compltetely de-bunked, but in a world where there are so many more "actual" natural phenomenon more wonderfully fantastic than the Marfa lights ever could be, it's not necessarily a bad thing.

  • Now you won't read this in any Marfa P.R literature but in 2004 the University of Texas undertook a study of the lights, which proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that there was a direct correlation between the appearance, movement and life-span of the lights and car headlights on the Highway.

  • The story that he "discovered" them in 1883 actually came from his surviving family members. They said that he had told them about the lights, but they themselves didn't bother to mention this to anyone until the fifties, which is exactly when Highway 67 was created.

  • The story goes that Robert Reed Ellison first documented them in that year, but investigations into that claim have drawn up a complete blank. Ellison didn't even mention them when he wrote his memoirs, which is a pretty big thing to leave out don't you think?

  • I'm afraid the Marfa lights haven't been around since 1883, they are due to car headlights and atmospheric effects, and I CAN prove it.

  • They've been seen before the highway though...they are also seen on an odd schedule.

  • @barthroom No they were not seen before highways. You can check this yourself using the 1932 Rand McNally Atlas - as I have.

  • We've been going there (Twin Peaks) for 25 years and they still feak me out! And I grew up in the White Sands/Alamagordo/Roswell Area! We have never seen anything like it, can't figure them out.

  • A former boss of mine told me about them and how she had one floating on the trunk lid of her car while she was driving down the road. One of her friends also had one float THRU the cab of his car while driving down the road. They would also float thru the summer camp area where she was a camp counselor.

  • My last message was poorly worded. Car headlights can't explain the whole phenom, bc the lights have been seen since 1883! I have been out there and seen them and heard the train(funny)it's not the train though..it is a real deal phenom.

  • I've been a few. Lights are the explanation for SOME, but not all. How can you explain thatt hey have been seen since 1883? No such thing as a car light in 1883!

  • highway lights in the distance are what cause the so-called marfa lights.

  • how dude, how, not moving, totally random, how are they headlights? 1883? really, dude, can you go and prove it then?

  • i've seen these lights at 3 am totally above the mountains and any road they also dance around move back and forth up and down disappear and return split and become two or more

change color these are not car headlights

  • they have been around for many years before highways
