Compare this to F1, NASCAR or any other major motorsport and you realize that racing has been systematically neutered over the years. Granted some of it needed to be done for safety but a lot of it isn't necessary. Keep things safe but lets unshackle the beast a bit shall we?
@UltimateWheelman Remember when they made the F1 slick tires with 4 threads ? That actually reduced grip, and I'm sure you'd agree, fast cars+less grip=more danger...
That is one "safety" innovation that actually was not necessary. Also the ban of the active suspension... (mind you that Senna was killed just after this)
Luckily they changed the tire rule back and made the slick tires like they should be.....
@Khazar01 Less grip means cars are slower, plain and simple, so when they go off, they are not going as fast. Drivers drive to the limits of the tires, not the limits of the cars.
Active suspension was banned for many reasons. A leak in the AS hydraulic system nearly killed Zanardi in 1993. Mechanics found that working with the AS systems was dangerous, and cornering speeds were on the rise.
@UltimateWheelman Well less grip should also go with less engine power, but in the case of F1 it didn't, the engines became more powerful so you can't say that the car itself is actually slower. It's simply not logical to try to slow down a fast car by making it dangerous at taking corners. This logic is supported by the fact that they have returned to full slick tires and using less powerful engines instead (they turned from V10 to V6)
@Khazar01 Engine power doesn't matter. As long as cornering speeds are in check, straight-line speed are not important. The cars were slower on grooved tires than they would've been on slicks, which was the whole point. The only reason F1 went back to slicks was because Bridgestone became the sole tire supplier, and they were able to make "control" slicks to manage cornering speeds. The only reason F1 is going to turbocharged V6's is to be "green", not to slow the cars down.
@UltimateWheelman I don't say that you're not right, we only have different views on the same thing :)
The real problem with these safety measures is that they are focused on the cars, my opinion is that they have to focus more on the tracks.......there are some tracks out there with lots of run-off space and are very forgiving if a driver makes a mistake, but there are some tracks that can still kill you if you brake at the wrong point (a thing that can happen often)
no words ... ppl dont know what we race drivers , are willing to give , just the be there , to race , or to look at the crowd , the vid is perfect for me u get 5 stars from it , good work !
the last 50 secs of the video where the guy is talking about emotions, and the clips of i'm assuming arton sennas funeral...are very powerful. awesome vid :)
We are made of emotions, we are all looking for emotions, it's only a question of finding the way to experience them. One particular thing that Formula One can provide you, is that you know we are always expose to danger, danger of getting hurt .. danger of dying.

@PTKilowatt Some of it needed to be done? Name one safety innovation that was created for no reason whatsoever?
