Man. Many people get depressed by watching that but I think sometimes Shinji is lucky because of that exact scene. I can NEVER express them. And there will NEVER be someone like Asuka who would react that way which connects what I am to convey.

Now that some of you have brought up the strangling thing, it sort of happens in Evangelion 2.0 when Shinji loses control of his Eva to the dummy and it starts strangling Eva unit 3 (which Asuka was piloting at the time).

There was a forum I went to that pointed out what you mentioned about Anno using tracks from past series, even a movie that he didn't direct, and that he chose those tracks because they actually have a deeper meaning behind them? I never saw Karekano but a synopsis I read on it said it was about a highschool girl who felt like she was outdone academically by a certain male student. I can't help but somehow connect that to Shinji and Asuka. :D

the only diference in the fight on rebuild is that eva 03 is piloted by asuka and it grows 2 extra arms :) and eva 01 bites the entry plug instead of smashing it

I know some people are going to hate me for saying this, but in my opinion, this scene was way better in English. It was just one of those moments in the dub where they just got everything right, and it made this my favorite scene in the movie. If I had watched this subbed the first time around, I don't think I would have liked it as much.

They never really give a decent solution to problems like "existential angst" or "low self esteem". I guess it all depends on your attitude to the contingent nature of the universe. I know some people are going to hate me for saying this, but in my opinion, this scene was way better in English. It was just one of those moments in the dub where they just got everything right, and it made this my favorite scene in the movie. If I had watched this subbed the first time around, I don't think I would have liked it as much.

@TheCmharman I wouldn't say asuka was in love with shinji..there might have been a slight sexual tension, but shinji pissed her of. heck throughout the series there's a lot of that stuff with the different characters. even between Misato and Shinji.

Thisscene made me pretty depressed. Asuka had always been a bitch, but i liketo give her the benefit of the doubt, after seeing what she went through as a kid, there is a reason she is so disfunctional. Also, she brings up a good point- shinji says he needs asuka, but she brings up the fact that she just happens to be the easiest, and he just needs someone. Also, the fact that he cant come to terms with himself (like himself) thoughout the movie just didnt satisfy me. But regardless- amazing se

Hase190 speakith the truth. I enjoyed reading the comments. All the creators of this anime do though, is describe, outline and try to explain serious psychological problems. They never really give a decent solution to problems like "existential angst" or "low self esteem". I guess it all depends on your attitude to the contingent nature of the universe. It's why I like Buddhism a little bit more than Existentialism.
