Hey if anyone may know, I have a setting on my ps3 thats on F@H Settings and it says normal and advanced on mode, i'm wondering how to make it run faster, would anyone know if that's the way to make t run faster?
@XxSpatsaAddictxX Normal mode is for average use. Advanced is for people who leave their PS3's on folding. It basically runs larger WU's for more points but takes longer to finish (Usually a couple of days) and have tighter deadlines. If you don't leave your PS3 on, stick with the normal mode.

I got a PS3 Dec. 20th this year. I have made about 10 units on Folding@Home so far. I know it's for a good cause, so every night when i go to sleep, I put it on Folding at home and turn my screen off. But IVE GOT ONE QUESTION. The protein thing in the bottom right....I know it squirms around n stuff, but with every level you gain, does it grow or something? Does it stay the same? I keep thinking I'm leveling up my protein to be bigger, but it doesnt feel like its growing. =/

It's too bad that visualization doesn't look as good on home computers. Okay, I do understand that even dual core x86 (or rather x64) CPU is sh** comparing to PS3 RISC architecture processor. Its a fact that ps3's are the cheapest computing power on the market at the moment, not too long ago 16 were networked to calculate the effects of a blackhole.
You have to buy games for both to play games on them. PSN does not lag(at least for me) Killzone 2 looks like a great FPS, after reading reviews. There are great games on the ps3 that won't be on the pc, and vice versa.
PS3 never lags. It's overpriced, but how much do you have to pay for a computer that gets good graphics and can play blu-ray movies that you download from online? SEVERAL THOUSANDS OF DOLLARLS. It has 7 CPU's but the GPU is fail, it's pretty much equivalent to my eVGA 8600GT 256MB.
The 7 CPU's are nice and all, but I'm sure with a nicely overclocked quad (Intel core 2 extreme?), with 2-4GB RAM since consoles tend to seriously lack that (Overkill = 16GB RAM on 64-bit OS), and a decent video card like at least a 8600GT/GTS also overclocked (or if you want to go for overkill try a GTX 280 xD) is enough to wipe the PS3's ass. Shitty OEM PC's like Dell aren't going to be able to, but custom
lol, you cannot upgrade consoles, just one upgrade to a PC video card with decent cpu is good, especially with 2GB+ of ram, CONSOLES LACK RAM! And your limited to what the console has ported to it. On PC you can add all the nice stuff to increase image quality at cost of performance in the games, you have higher resolutions, anti aliasing, anisotropic filtering and so on.
No need to upgrade really, all games released for that specific console will run smooth unless they're buggy, anyway, i agree with what you said, i love dedicated servers, playing FPSs with mouse and keyboard, and most of all, flight sims and strategy games

Folding@home is a distributed computing project -- people from throughout the world download and run software to band together to make one of the largest supercomputers in the world.
In layman's terms, it's using all the CPU of every days peoples computers to do calculations to find cures for disease (distributed computing) instead of one super computer.
You doing somthing with you ps3, you dont actually get to play anything or do much besides watch if you want. But you are helping by making a supercomputer to help with calculations to help find cures of disease and stuff.
Its not the kinda thing you should download if you hoping youd get somthign rightaway out of, you should download it if you want to help out somthing that can easily be left on over night to help the better of all people of the world.
Folding@Home (FAH) is basically about donating the idle cycles of the CPU in your system in order to simulate protein behaviour. The results are then uploaded to Stanford University's Chemistry Department server, and they use them to study diseases and find cures, etc.
This kind of study requires tremendous computing power. (More than anyone can afford).
So the Folding@Home project tries to create a pseudo supercomputer using the Internet and anyone who wants to donate their CPU time.
A xbox can't cure cancer.

PS: If you have a PS3 or if your PC is always on and idle go to use F@H or download their application for
PC, MAC and Linux and use your idle machines for something (you can even create a team and race to the top of the leaders board :P)

It has 7 CPU's but the GPU is fail, it's pretty much equivalent to my eVGA 8600GT 256MB.
The 7 CPU's are nice and all, but I'm sure with a nicely overclocked quad (Intel core 2 extreme?), with 2-4GB RAM since consoles tend to seriously lack that (Overkill = 16GB RAM on 64-bit OS), and a decent video card like at least a 8600GT/GTS also overclocked (or if you want to go for overkill try a GTX 280 xD) is enough to wipe the PS3's ass. Shitty OEM PC's like Dell aren't going to be able to, but custom

lol, you cannot upgrade consoles, just one upgrade to a PC video card with decent cpu is good, especially with 2GB+ of ram, CONSOLES LACK RAM! And your limited to what the console has ported to it. On PC you can add all the nice stuff to increase image quality at cost of performance in the games, you have higher resolutions, anti aliasing, anisotropic filtering and so on.
You have mods and software and everything else.
PC layout also kicks ass.
Keyboard and mouse is best way to play FPS.

No need to upgrade really, all games released for that specific console will run smooth unless they're buggy, anyway, i agree with what you said, i love dedicated servers, playing FPSs with mouse and keyboard, and most of all, flight sims and strategy games

Folding@home is a distributed computing project -- people from throughout the world download and run software to band together to make one of the largest supercomputers in the world.
In layman's terms, it's using all the CPU of every days peoples computers to do calculations to find cures for disease (distributed computing) instead of one super computer.

You doing somthing with you ps3, you dont actually get to play anything or do much besides watch if you want. But you are helping by making a supercomputer to help with calculations to help find cures of disease and stuff.
Its not the kinda thing you should download if you hoping youd get somthign rightaway out of, you should download it if you want to help out somthing that can easily be left on over night to help the better of all people of the world.

Folding@Home (FAH) is basically about donating the idle cycles of the CPU in your system in order to simulate protein behaviour. The results are then uploaded to Stanford University's Chemistry Department server, and they use them to study diseases and find cures, etc.
This kind of study requires tremendous computing power. (More than anyone can afford).
So the Folding@Home project tries to create a pseudo supercomputer using the Internet and anyone who wants to donate their CPU time.
