Obviously it's not a real solar eclipse, but as TheFoecrusher said, it was made using the Starry Night program. They have a Dashboard widget for Mac OSX 10.4 and up. Even the stripped-down widget is awesome, you can view any sky from any place on Earth at anytime (past or future). So even if its so glaringly fake (I think the author should say so), it is a very interesting animation.

its trully fake...When the moon goes in front of the sun it has "sun" for a while but for a momment it goes dark and it doesn`t goes dark so fast even the moon goes so fast...

Others think it a fake? I've never seen a closeup of a solar eclipse well enough to judge. BUT -- I need something simple and straightforward to show my (low-level) students, and explain an eclipse to them, and this is perfect. Thank you.
