fuck some people are retarded, the first book is called northern lights in the uk, but its called the golden compass in the us and canada. the subtle knife is tth second book, and the amber spyglass is the third. as of now there will be no continuation of the movies, as the first one didnt sell very well.

Although it claims that Balthamos used to be male but as it explains when Ruta Skadi follows the angels, they only see them as human-formed because her eyes expect to. Their true form is described as more like architecture than organism, so they can't really be classed as gay in the same way humans are because they are beings composed of intelligence and feeling.

The Golden Compass was the title of the first book when it was released in Canada/United States. Since New Line Cinema is an American company (I think), that is why they went with that title. It also flowed with the other titles being named after the objects.
