However to claim that modern day republicans are the same as progressive republicans then you are wrong. For republicans way way back in the day were progressive.

What are you progressing toward? freedom and constitutional rights? or socialism/communism/'statism' that controls the people and disperses rights as it pleases? So you are right, and I am also right since many republican voters today are progressive in respect to the direction of progress toward conservatism

In certain Islam countries, 'progressive' for many means constructing a government that serve shariah law, but for others that is not progress but regression, and it is relative depending on your ideology and agenda. It's not as simple as saying someone is progressive. Republicans today are just as much against modern economic slavery as old time ones were against old world slavery.
