After listening to this for around 7 mins I swear something flicked a switch in my head - literally the most surreal experience I've ever had from listening to a song. Can't explain it but I know something's different. Anyone else had a similar experience? Love these guys, but damn this is scary!
@joshjcheetham....althought Boards of Canada are amazing artists and I've been a fan for well over a decade, there is nothing scary going on here. Just microtones, poly rhythms, and sonic experimentation. Put down the meth pipe and give another listen...
@prefusehead Where did you get the info on the new album in 2012 and the box set? I wonder how they make enough money to live and work on music for 12 hours a day. Perhaps from the adult swim ads they did?
@machinevsfascist He didn't really get it from anywhere really. The "BoC Set" has been in the works since the Old Tunes saga and sources close to the band (MDG on twoism.org) indicated the band was supposed to release new material in 2011 but outside forces caused a delay. Naturally this would lead one to the conclusion that new material is in the works.
Nice track! I wonder if they will ever put out a new record. It's been like 6 years since the last album, and I remember reading in an interview they were already working on the next record. Wonder what's happening with that.
@djteq9 they have stated in an interview that they will make music as long as they are physically capable. the albums they put out represent only a very tiny portion of the music they are making at that point in time. they work on music pretty much every day for 12 hours or so, and they have no commercial aspirations hence the amount of time between albums. they have hinted that a new album will be coming out sometime in 2012. followed by a HUGE box set of unreleased material.
i love boards of canada, i love lots of music, 100s of bands, but their is only a handful that make me feel like im in a bubble and make me freeze in this moment in time... i wish i could explain with words the way this music makes me feel.
@xinjinbei Well probably that too, but it also stands for the Order of the British Empire, specifically the Officer tier. It's an order of chivalry and something of an accolade.
There are two versions of this floating around. I think this one was broadcast live on 16 June 1998, and then rebroadcast on 21 July 1998. Can anyone confirm this?
Maybe it's the subliminal influence of the visuals in this clip, but this is the first BoC piece where I really think, "yeah! This here is a Scottish thing!" (At least after 4.00 or so.) Kind of piobaireachd.
@iunnodiapeys the idea of elctronic music as antithesis 2nature is alwys intrestin. esp BOC,who have alwys seemd2 meld warpd, faded elctroncs wth beats n samps-producing somethng tht seems more likely than nt 2resonate wth experinces of nature.mayb it is becos elctronc instrumnts r 'new' that we c them as operatin outside an expression of nature-i just think its about how th sounds r used n I alwys feel BOC r totally tuned into that space.hence no contradiction.ultimatly-theyre all sound waves.
For their style of music, that could be seen as something that could pollute the creative process, as they were highly inspired by nature, and it seems to be the perfect setting for them to record their music in.
That setting reduces the risk of unwanted outer influences.
Instead, they chose the medium of recorded media which they liked and were inspired by to make the connection with the outer world.
They are satanist zionists.

One curiosity, why is it 'ecks-why-ZEE' not 'ecks-why-ZED'? I thought "zed" was used in the UK.
Doct0rG 1 year ago 5
@Doct0rG Scots don't say Zed bro!
mrkrinkle699 1 year ago 4
@Doct0rG Just want to weigh in on the Z debate. I'm from the UK and I have always pronounced it "zed".
Now I live in Canada, and over here everyone says "zee" (as in the US). However, my wife is French Canadian and she pronounces it "zed".
It's so confusing.

It depends on what they meant by "technology".
I interpreted as, city life, industry etc....
For their style of music, that could be seen as something that could pollute the creative process, as they were highly inspired by nature, and it seems to be the perfect setting for them to record their music in.
That setting reduces the risk of unwanted outer influences.
