  • When I was removing the crankshaft position sensor it broke before I could remove it on my 1996 Saturn so need help ASAP

  • @deboy5319 I have never run into a broken one that being said i would start by taking the starter out of the way. Then it would be trial and error on the tools i would use.

  • @richpin06a i have followed the step by step and know when i tryden to remove it i broke the sensor head and now its stuck and block and know i need help trying to pull it out asap

  • To all who are dealing with potential CPS issues:Replaced CPS with MasterPro replacement w/ from O'reilly's. No change. After pursuing fuel issues, incl. a fuel filter/reg. and trying many other things I gave up and took it to a shop. CPS from Masterpro measured less than 700 ohms. He replaced it with a CarQuest and it starts fine. Don't assume your replacement parts are fine; check, double check and save your receipts because now the retailer does not want to allow a return.

  • @bugietube Thank you for sharing your experience.

  • Looks easier than I thought it would be

  • hi, my car is a satur sl1 1997, is jumping however is not starting on, i put star like and it try to run but wont, i allready change spars plgus and wires and coil and cranshaf postion sensor but is just jumping but no starting on

  • @inkilla Have you checked for spark at the spark plugs.

  • @richpin06a I have the same problem as inkilla. I do not have spark from spark plugs or coil packs. I replaced CPS still no spark. This all happened after i hooked jumpercables up backwards. I think maybe my onboard computer is bad. how can i test that?

  • @curtisalandavis Wow that could have blown the computer. In a normal car if there was no spark after changing a cps i would look at the ignition module as a possible cause.

  • @richpin06a Checked ignition module put a new one on didn't work. Luckily the part store let me return it because they couldn't test my old one for me. It would have been $115.

  • @curtisalandavis did you check you relay for the alternator, it would blow out more likely once you jumped in the opposite way hope this helps.

  • @igarcia200 There is not a relay in either fuse box for the alternator… where should I check? Everyone I talk to keeps saying it's probably a linkable fuse, but I don't know how to check these. I don't wan't to cut the wiring harness open...

  • i got a problem with my 1500 chevy silverado that brake all the starters, it make a loud noise when i crank it, but some tell me was the flat wheel, tehy changed but still does the same thing, burning every starter, after they say was the ingection swich, but stil do not know, any idea, please. thanks

  • what this sensor does, and how you know that is bad

  • is this for a dodge stratus 2005, and if not where is the crankshaft position senor & can you tell me where is it located. on a 2005 stratus 2.4l sxt

  • I want to thank you for placing these helpful videos. Makes a lot easier for someone who is willing to do this themselves! Thanks again, and please continue to put these videos on here!

  • Saturn won't start without starting fluid in the intake, so I'm getting combustion and the battery is charged. So obviously fuel is not getting to the engine from the gas tank. And I'm trying to figure out the problem dead on so I'm not forced to buy a filter and a pump, then relay. If (CPS) was my problem the car should start and stay idle at least for a few minutes. I can't hear if the fuel pump is turning on. I think the car has over 100,000 miles and I have never changed the fuel filter.

  • @Arperture2008 Check my videos on fuel pump troubleshooting might be of some help.

  • @richpin06a, and thanks 4 all ur help man.

  • @richpin06a or better yet does it matter wht type of gas u use in this car cause i put $20 of plus in it the other day and i usually use regular.

  • @richpin06a i replaced the plugs and wires like 5 months ago before this happened, but i didnt clean the coil pack so imma do tht, and mab chk for tightness in the plugs. but now the lights went off. do u think mab the light came on by mistake?

  • @RICHPIN06A the crank and cam shaft is not the same thing right? and if the chain needs replacing how do i go about that? i kno i can do the chain if i have ur guidance.

  • @richpin06a hey good afternoon. im in trouble man. i have the 98 saturn sl1 sohc and the engine service light came on. i went to autozone and they did the test, but the results came up as cam shaft sensor faulty codes PO340, and they said my car dont have a cam shaft sensor though. then at the bottom of ticket it says timin chain may need to be serviced. ANY IDEAS?

  • @omarG19100 That code on the Saturn means you need a tune up.Replace spark plugs, wires and clean the coil towers and the coil hold down bolts.I have a video on this code.

  • That's a typical location for the Knock sensor I imagine?

  • @elchilenotedoi I am not sure if you can get one new.

  • Thank you, but is there any advise to what to do ?

I have a 5 hours trip this weekend , do you think will take me there, by the way it runs like a deer.

  • @mikezzzist You need to scan the computer and see what the trouble codes are.

  • I have a Mazda 2008 cx7 , I replaced the CPS , after the engine's light was on, but the light came on again after replacing it, and it cost me $95 to replace it at a dealer ship, I took it back to diagnose the problem , he will charge me another $95. please someone tell what to do . thanks

  • @mikezzzist If you do not work on your on vehicles find a trustworthy mechanic and stick with him.

  • @BarryUkester Have you done a computer scan is it clear.

  • I didn't have a spare. I bought one hoping that is what it was. I already bought/replaced the CPS, coolant temp sensor and coils. I figured that is what was left.

    Thanks again for your help.

  • I have a 2000 Hyundai accent that used to stall on the road, now, it won't start! I'm thinking it's the crankshaft sensor. Could I be right?? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

  • @CSQUAR3DsBaCk Could be the crank sensor have you checked for spark

  • Rich.. I just changed the coils. Still wont start.

  • @smorrow0816 Do you have a spare ignition module you can try.

  • IT"S FIXED!!!!! Ok, I installed an ignition module and now it starts. Thanks for your suggestions.

  • @smorrow0816 Good news your very lucky to have had spare module.

  • I checked ground. It was 00.4

  • Just to add. I took off the #1 and #4 spark plug wires and checked for a spark like your other video shows jumping across those two points on the coils. I got no spark at the 1 and 4 coils.

  • @smorrow0816 Check the pink/black wire at the ignition module for voltage with the key on.Also check all fuses.

  • @richpin06a

I just checked the pink wire and yes, there is voltage to it when the key is on. ps. I also put on the seat belt like your other video showed...just in case. No luck.

  • @smorrow0816 Good next we have to check the resistance of the ground wire (black/white)at the ignition module. The resistance should be 200 ohms.

  • Ok Rich...I need your help. I replaced the CPS and the Coolant Temp Sensor. Still the car wont start. I have no codes on the reader. I also bought a spark tester. I don't see any sparks. I am going nuts. Any suggestion swould be greatly appreciated.

  • Thanks Rich. What are your thoughts about the fuel pump being the problem?

  • @smorrow0816 The Saturn s-series have very few fuel pump problems to speak of.You could put a gauge on it to check the pressure if you want,i have a video on the procedure if you need it.

  • Rich. Love the videos. My son has an 01 Saturn sl1. Tonight the car started to turn over but not start. Prior I had a code for the coolant temp and thought about replacing either the thermostat or the temp sensor. Then I saw your video about the cps sensor. Which do you think it is that is causing the car not to start? I am not sure of the function of the cps. Thanks so much.

  • @smorrow0816 When it does not start check for spark. No spark the cps might be at fault if you have spark the engine coolant temp sensor might be at fault.

  • Went to change my CPS, the 10m bolt was already loose when I got under the car. Lots of suprises..

  • thanks rich, worked like a charm on my '97 saturn sl. I didnt even have to remove the starter just reached behind and was able to remove it.

  • @choebee Wow you must be very flexible to do it that way good for you.

  • I found on my ....1995.... Eagle Talon ESI ......that the Crankshaft sensor is located above the oil filter by four inches and is not beneath the timing belt dust cover. and is very easy to get to and change.

  • @richpin06a the codes they gave me are p0336 "not sure if its the #0 or the letter o ...sorry" and also po420 " this one it is the letter o not #0" thanks

  • @TheVictorgamez The P0336 points to a possible bad crank sensor and or the connector and wires going to it.

  • @richpin06a do you know where it is at in my car i have a 98 pontiac gran prix thanks

  • @TheVictorgamez Check out my video (Front Crankshaft Oil Seal Replacement)at 3:07 in the video you will see a blue object on this 3.1L engine that is the crankshaft sensor.Your's will be a little different looking but will be in the same location.

  • @richpin06a thank you so much :) God bless you

  • @TheVictorgamez A auto parts store like AutoZone will scan it for you free of charge.Just wright the numbers down.

  • @richpin06a oh okay ill stop by tomorrow thanks

  • @richpin06a my car was working great untill the last 2 weeks it started turning off again while driving :( now the check engine light has been on these 2 weeks..... do u still think it could be the crankshaft sensor? it turns off like every 4 days or so

  • @TheVictorgamez What are the codes.

  • @richpin06a i dont know where can i get the codes check i dont know anything about cars but i cant pay to much im a single mother of 3 and money is hard right now

  • @richpin06a the codes they gave me are p0336 "not sure if its the #0 or the letter o ...sorry" and also po420 " this one it is the letter o not #0" thanks

  • @richpin06a the codes they gave me are p0336 "not sure if its the #0 or the letter o ...sorry" and also po420 " this one it is the letter o not #0" thanks

  • awsome dude

  • saturn's suck balls as a car comany but good work

  • when i went to the store later, the light was off again ....

  • @richpin06a the check engine light just went on this morning when taking the girls to school....... the car has not turned off for about a week .....but i dont drive it to far

  • no my check engine light is not on

  • @TheVictorgamez Without the check engine light on it makes it much harder to diagnosed the problem. If i was to make a guess i would say it could be the crankshaft position sensor.

  • @richpin06a the check engine light just went on this morning when taking the girls to school....... the car has not turned off for about a week .....but i dont drive it to far

  • @richpin06a my car was working great untill the last 2 weeks it started turning off again while driving :( now the check engine light has been on these 2 weeks..... do u still think it could be the crankshaft sensor? it turns off like every 4 days or so

  • @richpin06aso i went to 3 a auto parts store and they dont do it anymore :( im gona check on line to see if i find anyone who will do it for cheap :0 ill let u know as soon as i find out

  • @TheVictorgamez check out, gpclub dot com

  • I have a subaru and while the location is different i'm sure the function is not. My question is, I waited a little too long to change my CrankPS and my engine is at the point where it won't start at all, I got the sensor off and have the new part, can anyone tell me if I have to do any kind of calibration or timing to replace it or is it strictly "plug and play", thanks!

  • I am always amazed about how some people do mechanic work on such perfectly clean engines with perfectly clean hands! must be a Saturn thing!

  • I have a 1998 infinity qx4 suv. Can you tell me... where is the crank shaft sensor in my car??

  • @lockedin1 I have not worked on this vehicle to give you firsthand knowledge that being said it is suppose to be on the transmission somewhere.

  • ok heres my story i driving and mu car just stops! i turn back up again and turns on just fine mmmmm im thinking its the crankshaft position sensor i have a 98 pontiac gran prix can you tell me where it is at, and should i replace the cam senor as well??? i have 2 lil girls that i have to take to school everyday and this is my only car. thanks for your help

  • @TheVictorgamez Is the check engine light on if it is that would narrow the problem down.

  • @richpin06a no the enine light is not on or goes on when the shuts down

  • @richpin06a no the engine light is not on

  • @richpin06a no its not

  • Richpin06a: Your videos are awesome! I have a 95 Saturn SL2 And I've been maintaining it regularly with never a problem. But yesterday and it would Crank and Crank but wouldn't start. Same thing today. IS the replacement of the Crankshaft position sensor a feasible fix? Thank you so much!

  • @GrubWerm Yes in most cases it is the cps.Do the 1-4 coil test to confirm no spark.I have a video on this test

  • @richpin06a Is it possible for CPS to be intermitten and/or going bad? Or does it Work or doesn't work? I will do the 1-4 test tonight after work but I saw your comment about 97 defective fuel pump check and this morning I went out and turned it Just to on positino for about 10 seconds and then proceeded to start and it started right up no problems. Thanks Again!

  • @GrubWerm What they do a lot of the time is they will only fail after the vehicle has been heated up.

  • @richpin06a Thanks Again. IT has Spark so not CPS. I know you say to move on to coil and ignition module, which one first? And also like I said If I turn to ACC first for 10 seconds and then try to start it up. It starts up immediately everytime. Could it be the fuel pump check that was posted on someones 97? Thanks Again for the great videos

  • @GrubWerm It sounds like you have a possible fuel pump check valve problem like the 97 has.

  • @richpin06a Thanks again for the quick response. Is that inside the fuel tank? Ie need to drop the tank on the 95 Saturn Sl2? Thanks! You should have a Paypal Donation for all this great advice!

  • @GrubWerm Yes it is inside the tank and part of the fuel pump and you would need to drop the tank to get at it.

  • Thanks. I will replace crank sensor first to see if it can fix.

  • Thanks for reply .can u tell me what is TCC

  • @andrewzhang05 If you google " torque converter clutch " i am sure you will get all the information you need.

  • So do you think that may be crank sensor problem or the orther think problem Help me out please

  • @andrewzhang05 Normally a crank sensor fails when hot and indiscriminately but when a TCC fails it stalls the vehicle at a stop.

  • I am not sure did he check or not, cause I don't have the car with me. My frend took my car to repair And he is faraway from me. I don't know what to do

  • Yes. It stalls when stop at light or stop sight

  • @andrewzhang05 Did your mechanic check to see if the torque converter clutch was disengaging.

  • My Lincoln towncar stalls when I hit the brake. The machanical told me it's not the crank sensor problem cause there no code show up. And he doesn' know how to fix it .so. Do u think sometime no code shows up when crank sensor is bad?I need help. Thank u much richpin!

  • @andrewzhang05 Does it stall when you come to a stop sign or light.

  • @andrewzhang05 Does it stall when you come to a stop sign or light.

  • @andrewzhang05 Does it stall when you come to a stop sign or light.

  • @andrewzhang05 Does it stall when you come to a stop sign or light.

  • Hi richpin is there any computer code shows up when crank sensor is bad

  • @andrewzhang05 Yes they do have a code for the crank sensor

  • Did he just use the word "sticktion"???LMAO.....Awesome!

  • I need video to show me how to replace it in 2000 Camry 4Cyl

  • @A5er3uon3uonha If i get a camry that needs replacement i will be sure to do one.

  • Is that the right side if I'm in the driver's seat? Thanks again.

  • @jedishu yes

  • Is there an easy way to find the CPS on a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8? If tried looking from the top and from underneath and I still can't find it. Thanks Rich for any help you can give.

  • @jedishu Have you seen my video on replacing the cps on the 4.0L jeep.Well it is located same position but on the right side of the bellhousing.

  • Thanks Rich, love your videos!! very helpful!!

  • Hey rich, where might you find the ckp on a 2004 hyundai santa fe 4cyl?

  • @dwsmithers The crankshaft position sensor is located at the front of the engine near the timing belt.

  • How do you find the cps on a 2004 Hynudai Santa fe 4cyl? My mechanic quoted me $600 to replace it and I said no thanks!

  • hey richpin, where might i find a crankshaft sensor on a 2001 daewoo lanos sport? these little asian cars are hard for me to find anything.

  • @skatemore04 WOW..you got me on this one

  • Are these able to be upgraded? 2008 SX4 36000 miles.

  • ahem, its called a ckp

  • Thank you very much for informative videos I have question if you dont mind I have 2002 Dodge Intrepid SE 2.7L starts and go but wont reachover 2500 RPM what could be the problem?

also it has a filcker oil light stayed on when its worn at full stop then disapear when it moves any help will be apreciated

  • @nidinc im sorry to say but this is a common problem for the dodge 2.7. they made the oil galleys too small and they clog and block oil hence your oil light. and if your motor is not recieving oil then your crank bearings are, expanding too far and basically turning into a crank brake or spun. is there a knocking noise? check engine light? check your oil level flush ur system with an oil flush. sorry this might not help car problems are hard to solve withought seeing it 1st hand ,ase mechanic

  • What engine is this on please? I have a 1999 jeep grand Cherokee WJ 4.7, is the job like this? the sensor is in the same place.

  • @Kenlin59 This is a saturn s-series

  • this is like listening to a NASA live audio feed

  • FYI-My 2000 Saturn SL2 was running like crap. Major mis-firing and hesitation. No "service engine soon" light, nothing. I had to get the computer reprogrammed, and then the light came on. After that, the code showed the CPS as the problem.

Something to keep in mind if that happens to you.

  • @elgcpa Good to know,What made you have the computer reprogrammed.

  • @richpin06a

A mechanic couldn't find out what was wrong with the car. He went on-line and found a Technical Service Bulletin that Saturn put out about hesitation during acceleration. It suggested having the computer reprogrammed. The car still ran crappy after having this done, but now the engine light came on, and my mechanic was able to read a code and diagnose the problem. Weird.

  • Great help. Thak you for the demo ;)

  • Hey Rich, I have the same issue with my 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse...Ive looked for that sensor and cant find it! Do you know where it might be located???

  • do you have location and procedure for replacing the CPS on a 2003 ML320 mercedes suv?

  • @bgremple Sorry i do not.

  • The proper way to say it is CKP not CPS

  • @alwaysblank I have not done a lot of trouble code diagnosis on this car but it looks to be camshaft or crankshaft position sensor or possible Timing belt has skipped.

  • @alwaysblank What type vehicle do you have and do you have the actual trouble code.

  • Rich, thanks for this video. This is so well done that I was able to change out my CPS totally by feel and did not have to remove the starter.

  • Rich do you have any ideas, its clicking, and not starting? replaced the CPS, but I still dont seem to see spark, and it stalled?

  • You need to rule out the coil and ignition module.

  • hell yea solid kno what you mean just got my transmission done lil over a $1000! Didn't replace the crankshaft sensor call me yea we got the part want to bring your car in aint that some bull

  • I also tried tapping the starter...I know your not a free advice mechanic for all of us youtube newbies, I just feel so lost, dont wanna pay the mechanic 10000$s for something I could

  • ps I love your videos, I did the EGR with your videos, tested and replaced it...

  • RichPin, your videos always help....but im stuck 99 saturn sl2 stalled... I had the alternator tested before and was fine, wont jump start, tried the CPS cause I tested the 1st and 4th sparl plug and saw no spark, still not working, just making a clicking noise

  • If it is making a click noise when you try to start you need to first check the battery and then the stater.

  • Yeah I didnt think I saw any spark, it was just a single click at first, and now mutiple clicks , I touched the connections on the starter when checking the CPS and heard it spin...CPS wouldnt make it stall though would it? more like altinater

    ?

  • If the engine turns over normally when you turn the key you can rule out battery or stater. If you changed the cps that leaves the coil and ignition module to check.

  • Dunno might try the starter
