@Cheezymoo The Rock is one of the best mic workers in wrestling history but he's not the best nor would he make any of these look terrible: Jake Roberts, Piper, Billy Graham, Macho Man, Shawn Michaels, Ventura, Mr Perfect, Pillman, Foley (Both had a great back and forth), Austin (same reasons as Foley) there are several more. If you want to look at the guys of today that would hang with him: CM Punk, Ziggler and Rhodes. Again there are more I haven't got the time nor can I remember them all.

I have been watching wrestling for the past 15 years and it is always like this. Triple H and the Rock both went through the same thing that John Cena is going through. The Rock would get booed out of buildings, people would say that he was overrated, that he only had certain moves, he was only good on the mic. With Triple H, first it was the Kliq, then it was the whole "Oh, he is the champ because he is married to the bosses daughter". Once the next guy comes, it will start all over

Bret Hart said once that one of the biggest problems in wrestling is that there are no longer any role models. During the Attitude Era, it was cool to be a badass, to have attitude. The older fans remember those days and want to see them again. They will never accept John Cena because he is the opposite of everything they want.
People are hating on Cena because he's basically the modern day Hulk Hogan. The difference? Cena's more entertaining and interesting than Hogan could ever be. Cena *can* wrestle, despite popular belief ", and certainly is hilarious on the mic.
That said, I still prefer Rock, and have expectations for a top notch performance from them both at 'Mania. They were both fun to watch at Survivor Series, and it will be hard to disappoint at 'Mania, I'm sure.

@EqualityScotland Cena is miles ahead of Hogan in terms of wrestling. Plus, he has no problem putting people over. Unlike Hulk Hogan, John Cena was willing to lose Shawn Michaels, something that the hulkster was unwilling to do.
Cena is more than capable of putting on a good match. His match with CM Punk received a 5 star rating from David Meltzer. The last match to get that was Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker in 1997,the Hell in a Cell match.

I think they are sick of his character and there are people who wonder why they continue to parade Cena around like this despite the fact 50 percent of the crowd is clearly against him. I am nver gonna be a fan of his corny jokes or cheesy catchphrases but I respect how he was able to keep up with Punk on the mic and in the ring during their intense promos and matches. What the WWE needs is variety. Cena is good for the business and the role model it needs for the kids but us adults also need our own hero and Punk seems to be that guy. WWE should have something for everyone.

I know many of us who grew up with the attitude era can't stand it,but I believe it's a good fit for the kids. I mean someone has to be that guy right? @Makino36 I was blinded with my hate for PG in 2009 and 2010 but I understand it's only being done so that WWE can bring in a new audience for the future. WWE has improved a lot since Rock and Austin made their returns and Punk was elevated. WWE has proven this year that PG doesn't have to be corny. Just take away the sex and unnecessary bleeding but retain the aggression. I realized, if you don't like Cena, fast forward to the more adult-oriented segments with Punk and Nash and HHH.

Cause even before CM Punk started his "crusade", the WWE fans loved Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio, and even Batista before he went heel two years ago. They still rooted for Michaels and HHH. Now they're giving Orton a decent reaction too. The attitude era is over, but I think it goes beyond "Attitude" Era, cause there are plenty of PG era stars who do not get such a markeable mixed reaction. In fact, Jeff Hardy was the company's top face.
@Makino36 That's been my gripe with WWE since 2005 because they have not elevated enough guys which is why we've been stuck with the same guys like HHH, Batista, Orton, Cena etc during those years. It seems now they're finally pushing more talent. I see so much promise with guys like Danielson, Barrett, Ziggler, Punk, Ryder and I believe WWE should elevate them some more. Give them the same platform that Cena was given and they will shine and get the proper reactions.

I think Wade Barrett has a nice presence, is intimidating, and has great mic skills. Ziggler really should be pushed, he's getting a reaction. Ryder, the WWE pretty much low balled him, but he made himself popular and relevant with the internet. So I respect that. There's a lot of people they can develop and push. So let's hope they do it.
@Makino36 Since 2004 I just noticed how WWE would have a compelling angle only to fuck it up after 2 months at most. The Nexus shit was no different. I hated it after a week coz Daniel Bryan got fired and Cena just buried them all. In 2009, WWE put too much emphasis on Cena and Orton and in 2010 they elevated a few new stars but Cena was still the focal point of EVERY show. Now I'm glad it's a variety and more guys r being featured prominently. Awesome Truth and Ziggler have grown on me.
@Mr1131988 I dunno about truth, but last year's Cena vs Rock segments before WM, I still believe the Miz stoled the show with his trash talk directed towards the rock. Ziggler really really got a good pop at SVR and Ryder did too. Nexus, Bryan got fired, but lets face it, it wasn't even "nexus" it was essentially Wade Barrett. Nexus was good but new Nexus was god awful.
It's okay to have a focal point, but the focal pt should not be someone drawing a mix reaction.
@Makino36 WWE should have a focal point but my beef was that everyone else had bit parts on the show. Cena's segments with Nexus would take up the 1st 40 minutes of the show and Orton who was champion that time was an afterthought. You're right Nexus was only Barrett which is why it was stale after Week 1 because Daniel Bryan could've been the other breakout star of that group. Both versions of Nexus and then Corre were all poor attempts to revive the stable concept.

He was JUST starting out when the rock left and he wasnt even on the same show as him in 2002.

@Cheezymoo The Rock is one of the best mic workers in wrestling history but he's not the best nor would he make any of these look terrible: Jake Roberts, Piper, Billy Graham, Macho Man, Shawn Michaels, Ventura, Mr Perfect, Pillman, Foley (Both had a great back and forth), Austin (same reasons as Foley) there are several more. If you want to look at the guys of today that would hang with him: CM Punk, Ziggler and Rhodes. Again there are more I haven't got the time nor can I remember them all.

I have been watching wrestling for the past 15 years and it is always like this. Triple H and the Rock both went through the same thing that John Cena is going through. The Rock would get booed out of buildings, people would say that he was overrated, that he only had certain moves, he was only good on the mic. With Triple H, first it was the Kliq, then it was the whole "Oh, he is the champ because he is married to the bosses daughter". Once the next guy comes, it will start all over

Bret Hart said once that one of the biggest problems in wrestling is that there are no longer any role models. During the Attitude Era, it was cool to be a badass, to have attitude. The older fans remember those days and want to see them again. They will never accept John Cena because he is the opposite of everything they want.

Cena is more than capable of putting on a good match. His match with CM Punk received a 5 star rating from David Meltzer. The last match to get that was Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker in 1997,the Hell in a Cell match.

I am nver gonna be a fan of his corny jokes or cheesy catchphrases but I respect how he was able to keep up with Punk on the mic and in the ring during their intense promos and matches. What the WWE needs is variety. Cena is good for the business and the role model it needs for the kids but us adults also need our own hero and Punk seems to be that guy. WWE should have something for everyone.

I know many of us who grew up with the attitude era can't stand it,but I believe it's a good fit for the kids. I mean someone has to be that guy right? @Makino36 I was blinded with my hate for PG in 2009 and 2010 but I understand it's only being done so that WWE can bring in a new audience for the future. WWE has improved a lot since Rock and Austin made their returns and Punk was elevated. WWE has proven this year that PG doesn't have to be corny. Just take away the sex and unnecessary bleeding but retain the aggression. I realized, if you don't like Cena, fast forward to the more adult-oriented segments with Punk and Nash and HHH.

Cause even before CM Punk started his "crusade", the WWE fans loved Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio, and even Batista before he went heel two years ago. They still rooted for Michaels and HHH. Now they're giving Orton a decent reaction too. The attitude era is over, but I think it goes beyond "Attitude" Era, cause there are plenty of PG era stars who do not get such a markeable mixed reaction. In fact, Jeff Hardy was the company's top face.

@Makino36 That's been my gripe with WWE since 2005 because they have not elevated enough guys which is why we've been stuck with the same guys like HHH, Batista, Orton, Cena etc during those years. It seems now they're finally pushing more talent. I see so much promise with guys like Danielson, Barrett, Ziggler, Punk, Ryder and I believe WWE should elevate them some more. Give them the same platform that Cena was given and they will shine and get the proper reactions.

I think Wade Barrett has a nice presence, is intimidating, and has great mic skills. Ziggler really should be pushed, he's getting a reaction. Ryder, the WWE pretty much low balled him, but he made himself popular and relevant with the internet. So I respect that. There's a lot of people they can develop and push. So let's hope they do it.

@Makino36 Since 2004 I just noticed how WWE would have a compelling angle only to fuck it up after 2 months at most. The Nexus shit was no different. I hated it after a week coz Daniel Bryan got fired and Cena just buried them all. In 2009, WWE put too much emphasis on Cena and Orton and in 2010 they elevated a few new stars but Cena was still the focal point of EVERY show. Now I'm glad it's a variety and more guys r being featured prominently. Awesome Truth and Ziggler have grown on me.

@Mr1131988 I dunno about truth, but last year's Cena vs Rock segments before WM, I still believe the Miz stoled the show with his trash talk directed towards the rock. Ziggler really really got a good pop at SVR and Ryder did too. Nexus, Bryan got fired, but lets face it, it wasn't even "nexus" it was essentially Wade Barrett. Nexus was good but new Nexus was god awful.
It's okay to have a focal point, but the focal pt should not be someone drawing a mix reaction.

@Makino36 WWE should have a focal point but my beef was that everyone else had bit parts on the show. Cena's segments with Nexus would take up the 1st 40 minutes of the show and Orton who was champion that time was an afterthought. You're right Nexus was only Barrett which is why it was stale after Week 1 because Daniel Bryan could've been the other breakout star of that group. Both versions of Nexus and then Corre were all poor attempts to revive the stable concept.

@TheRobertbonner89 Stone Cold and Jericho both have confirmed that the wrestlers of the attitude era came up with there own lines there was no writing staff back then so it was up for the wrestler to come up with their own material the only writting staff they had back then was russo and vince (and a few others) for, you to take randy orton's word, a wrestler who wasnt even around (not to mention on the same show when he first debuted) when the rock was pretty much sums up your intellect.

The Rock probably had writers help with SOME of his stuff, like a rough idea of what he's gonna do, but if you watch classic Rocky promos, a lot of the time he's not even looking at a camera. Sure, when he sings "happy birthday to steph" and shit like that its on a script or teleprompter, but a lot of the time there's NO WAY! Even the promos he cuts now, 7 years removed are still way better than a Cena promo

@DUBtheTIGER actually the rock wrote his own promos, its been stated numerous times by stone cold and chris jericho that the wrestlers of the attitude era had to come up with their promo's the writting team that wrote promo's didnt come into existance until 2004, the rock never used a telepropter and how the hell would orton know? He was JUST starting out when the rock left and he wasnt even on the same show as him in 2002.
