-When you start playing gigs, you will notice youre hand gets cramped very fast. So it is better to keep the thumb of your left hand on the middeld of the neck (my squier has a line there).
And a tip for the sound: d.california is a groovy song. You play every note perfectly timed, but the groove comes in when you delay notes, play dead notes(a muted string) or even delete notes.
@andries9493 thanks for the pointers. so far most have not been sympathetic about me being a beginner. Anyway I have no intention of performing live. I am a producer and simply wanted to gain more ability to play string instruments rather then always program them.
I play the bass for like 2 and a half years now, i know how it is to start
I got some tips for you:
-even if you miss the string, you got to practise to play with 2 fingers on your right hand. You will get higher speeds and many possibilities for your sound.
-I thinkn it would be better if you would place your thumb on the element. If you(well i do, i like it more this way) start playing songs that are faster and need te be played with much energy you could lose you orientation on where your
Duce,c'mon .. it's freaking RHCP ... have some funky feeling for it !!!! you're way too stiff and the song's too tight. I would practice until perfect before posting, but hey..that's just me
@nagynorbie Thanks for the advice, your right I'm playing it way to stiff, but to be honest just like it says in the video description, I was just playing around, having some fun and decided to record it. I am not striving to be the next bassist for the band, I was just having some fun. It's amazing how passionate everyone is about me not posting this video. That only further reinforces my decision to do so.
If anything at the least I got to hear some feedback from others.
having played the bass for only six months in my spare time, and trying this song for the first time 3 days prior to making this vid, I don't think I did any worse then you would have...
im sorry but yeah i would have done better then that trust me or if not I would just not post any videos until a fuckin rock the shit out of this song which you totally ruined
Try holding your hand as relaxed as you can over the strings (only resting your thumb on the pickups or strings) and moving your fingers as you normally would when youre typing on a keyboard or taping a rhythm.

Your hand looks very cramped.
Try holding your hand as relaxed as you can over the strings (only resting your thumb on the pickups or strings) and moving your fingers as you normally would when youre typing on a keyboard or taping a rhythm.
It makes playing a lot easier.
