A little expensive, but cool. I currently use an elektroskate skateboard it's small, lithium powered and light, goes 25mph and good for 20 miles. I use it every day to and from the train.
One more thing I can haul two average shopping carts size of groceries with my bike trailer. Only one bad thing about my bike I can't fold it and take it on a choochoo.
Crystalyte 5304 rear, Ping lifepo4 30a 48v and Infineon 30a 48v controller and Specialized Hard Rock bike. The battery is mounted in a Bikes At Work trailer do to weight.
Only 6 miles?! If your journey is 4 miles to work and 4 back it won't be worth it. You would have to live in a very small city. I believe this should be marketed in Japan or China.
Would have had potential but 5k price is going to kill this can you say segway? I'd love to see someone go off a curb or down a San Francisco hill or pothole in this.
You can't take a segway on the tube or store it under your desk at work. Large wheel at the front will handle potholes ever ridden a trail bike? The bigger the front wheel the easier it handles over ruff stuff.
$50 for a battery? Where do you shop for top line Lithium Ion batteries, because I want what you're buying. The main cost of this is the carbon fiber chassis, which is why it's so light. Make it out of cheaper metal and the cost will plummet, but you'll have to really have strong arms to heft it onto the train/bus/whatever.
Well, I agree it's ecologically advantageous, socially responsible, and interesting in concept.
Beyond it's outrageous price though, how are the designers dealing with the problematic issue of having little kids giggle at you and scream "faaag!" as you roll by? I would kind of want that design issue addressed prior to any monetary commitment by myself.
they should use sympowerco corp's flowing electrolyte direct methanol fuel cell you would never have to recharge and its super light weight google SYMW
I think it has potential. It's compact design and apparent light weight, and recharge time are attractive. At half the quoted price, I bet you couldn't keep them on the shelves. I remember when VCRs and DVD players were$500.00 too.
everyone knows electronic drop it's price every 3months, I'll just come back a few years later. thank you.

A bike that propels itself? Kinda like buying a guitar that plays itself... What's the point?

...it's an electric bike

Dear swearing.,
When making a comment it is easy to show over subjectivity.
.
This device is probably most likely for the physically disabled individual and the fellow with reduced mobility or degeneratibe disease.
.
Such products are not marketed as such because to do so would offend the disabled in the first instance.
Cheers.

I think I'll just buy a really nice folding bike and get a motor kit for it. It would be 1/4 the price and a lot more rugged and just as light.

Its frame is made from carbon fiber. You also have to think about development costs and the pay for the employees.

Calculators were once $400.
It'll get cheaper and competition will further reduce the price, like all other technology in history.
