Clay ACTUALLY did win. AI has been forced to change the way votes are received whereas back in this season each contestant had very few phone lines. There were so many votes coming in for Clay that is crashed and tons of his votes weren't counted. It was a technical error that lost it for Clay. Ruben was great, but he didn't come close to Clay.. but then again has any contestant, at least any male? Clay won in reality, his albums have out-sold Ruben's and he broke records with his debut.

This competition was so close. Ruben & Clay were almost tied--50/50. Both talented although Clay has natural charisma and performs with more finesse. Ruben studied music in college. He worked his way up in a different way. Also, Clay's voice has a broader range & a purer tone. Like them both, like Clay better. Just my opinion. Clay has my heart.

It was extremely close! Ruben won by just 134,400 votes! I'd have to say Ruben and Clay were pretty evenly matched. This was the closest competition EVER, on American Idol. Ruben and Clay were real troopers!

Until now this has been the only time where the finale came down to 2 guys. But last night that changed, 2 guys are competing for the title again for the first time in 5 years. This time however, both contestants have the SAME first name, DAVID Cook and DAVID Archuleta.
