I think it is alot shorter than the 1098 because it only has a 990cc engine but the 1098 has a 1300cc engine. Also, the D16 is realy a track bike so for better handling they want the weight of the rider to be lower to the ground to reduce the centre of gravity. The D16 is also a V-4 but the 1098 is a V-twin.

don't take this the wrong way mate, i prefer full leathers boots gloves and a helmet (obv a helmet lol) but why get into arguments with people about kit, i'm going to wear a t shirt and a helmet only if i feel like it... if it's 45 degrees and i'm only doing 30mph chances are alot of people would take the risk, everyone has a minimun requirment, mine is gloves boots and a helmet oh and back protector, full leathers aren't always a must for alot of people. i understand about road rash though.

Just so there is no confusion on my comments.
The desmo which is a GP6 replica(990cc engine size cap) is a V4, they changed over to 800cc in 2007 and it became a Dual Ltwin motor.
