The animation is simply inspiring here. After Shere Khan checks Kaa to make sure he hasn't eaten Mowgli, he bunches up and recoils, and when he does, it looks very similar to how a human would recoil. Part of his body is even bent up like a shoulder. Kaa's body has no limbs, but the animators still managed to go above and beyond making his body language expressive.

This whole movie is well-animated, but this scene especially. It's just as fun to watch now as it was as a boy.

It was only a detail in the original because it was noted that tigers that prey on humans are usually injured or unable to catch their normal prey.
