Nope you are wrong, Jaguar is not from British origin. It is actually "felis onca" this comes from the ancient Aztecs of south America. When the Spaniards first came to south America they had given a new name to the cat "tupi Jaguara". So technically as far as the etymology goes for the origins of the word it is a latin word not a British word.
