wow........ a cartoon commercial from the seventies that isn't really creepy and slightly disturbing! plus I get frootloops twice a year (birthday AND christmas!)
I've always wondered why Toucan Sam speaks so clearly in the King's English when toucans are found in South America. If he speaks English at all, shouldn't he have a Spanish or Portuguese accent? Or maybe he speaks one or more of the indiginous tounges? I'm probably trying too hard to figure this out.
i wish there were more ads were the character of the product or wat ever talked about the product. instead for some bitch saying " this shit is healthy so buy it " this way i wouldn't be annoyed at ads coming on all the time, instead its like watching mini cartoon clips with some product in it. :(
I finally got a box of these for £8 (i've been wanting to try them since I was about 7-8 )22 now, and i live in england where there hard to find), and honest it was like a bowl of crunchy heaven.
god damn it! i miss the good old amarican froot loops.. where i live (switzerland) froot loops taste like nothing, and the only have 3 diffrent colours! (green, orange, and purple!) well.. atleast the swiss froot loops don't make me Fat!
Actually maybe a better idea would be having a male parrot have sex with a female toucan and produce a toucan/parrot hybrid so the toucan could talk. With a talking toucan sales for RC would be even higher.
I've come up with a marketing idea. Making RC Cola's mascot a talking parrot that drinks RC Cola and says it motto out loud after drinking it "be free drink RC" and then gives a contented sigh from the flavor. Given how much this fictitious bird help Kellogg's in selling Fruit Loops, I'm sure my idea would help out RC a lot if they would listen to it. Does my idea make sense?
I remember another Fruit Loops commercial featuring a spider that missed breakfast tying his shoes LOL. You also used to be able to get plastic glow in the dark toys inside the box--my first memory of anything "glow in the dark". They never lost their Fruit Loops smell...Ahh, the memories!!
One of my earliest memories was of a dream where I was being attacked by toucan Sam. I was on a sidewalk trying to run away and he kept tripping me and biting my ankles. I kept kicking him off and running away. I still liked the loops. They were the perfect Saturday morning accompaniment to Bugs Bunny and the Pink Panther. Never trust a toucan.
@InsertName125 You're kidding. I used to have dreams of Toucan Sam chasing me too. The weird thing was I wasn't afraid of him while I was awake. I even liked him. But I kept having a dream of him chasing me. Weird!
@vozpit You're right. I wasn't afraid of him awake either. Maybe it's a subconcious thing because our ape ancestors were chased by toucans. They look like they have a sharp beek. Come to think of it, when I was a kid I even wanted one as a pet at one point, to go with my falcon and my Baretta phone-answering cockateel.
I miss these old ads. So simple and fun. Interesting characters without all the jamming music and CGI that is in all the commercials now. Takes me back to sitting in front of the TV watching Bugs Bunny and Hong Kong Phooey and eating way to much sugary stuff for breakfast. Ahhhhhh......good times!
"Follow your nose, it always knows" was the commercial's catch-phrase...I had heard the phrase used up until the 1990's but it's been so long since i'd seen a Froot Loops commercial because i rarely watch TV anymore...but I will say the last one I saw on TV in the 1990's he used his catch-phrase. I would assume if they dropped that catch-phrase it's because they changed direction with the character and the commercials...these older ones have a formula and a rhythmic pattern.
I like at the end how the jungle explorer says,"Glad I discovered them!" And then Tucan Sam has that look on his face that seems to say,"What? YOU discovered them? That's BS!"
First time I've seen 1970's Fruit Loops commercials. Unless I saw one in 1979, the year I was born. But I wouldn't remember if I saw one or not. Not too different from the ones in the 1980's. Just some subtle stuff is all.
Oh my god, Toucan Sam is totally an imitation of Alan Watts! "Follow your nose! It always knows! The flavor of truth!"
