Actually the Colossus "survived" that earthquake, only it's legs were broken. It was destructed during a muslim raid centuiries later, the raiders have token all the bronze plates from the statue and sold it.
@ScatheMote We should reconstruct everything but our politicians are too busy eating our money away and made our country bankrupt...but they'll pay for them soon enough.
The depiction of the Colossus in Civ4 may look really cool in a video game... but from a historical standpoint, it is completely inaccurate.
The actual Colossus of Rhodes was not holding a torch, nor was its legs set apart as shown in the Civ4 version. Nor was it standing right at the mouth of the harbor, either.
In reality, the statue was standing on a nearby hilltop. It's legs were close together. One arm was raised to shield its eyes and the other held a cape which draped to the ground.
@Tessmage I agree with you about how the Colossus looks super cool. But we don't have actual pictures or pieces of writing that are the same to agree with the details you described.
Can u imagine back in those days someone coming into rhodes from sea and they see this glorious statue surrounded by the harbor. its an amazing sight that we all missed out :(
@JayEey The Statute of Liberty is bigger, even if you took away the pedestal base the Statue of Liberty stands on. Of course, they built the colossus, probably, by using mounds of dirt that they slowly shoveled away as they built down from head to toe, which is pretty impressive. It took years to build the colossus. Shame it toppled.
no no no, is defrent, ancient rhudes is ancient, precious, the statue there may looked very defrent , america not a place for perfect freedom, america is place for those whom the government only likes, before the blacks were hated ,then comunest countries, now arabs , bull shet,
yeah the real colossus was only 100 feet an earth quake toppled the statue and invaders sold it for scraps so im not sure what it actually looks like.
It was large enough to have ships coming though its legs. The Colossus of Rhodes was big, very big. Not as bug as the Statue of Liberty, I'd say, but still very big.
@Ennio444 Absolutely incorrect. Ships did not sail through the colossus' legs. It was on land near the shore. The notion of it straddling two land masses with ships sailing underneath is a romantic embellishment. It was shorter than the Statute of Liberty.
Excellent foresight on behalf of the engineers, considering how much it would suck to deal with douchebags who sail under it just so they can look up and giggle immaturely.
How do you make the wonder into a youtube video? i tried recording it with a webcam but it comes out so fuzzy and it doesnt adjust to light changes, but yours looks like i was actually playing the game right now.
I know that the CD has some files that contain these videos that you can easily just copy off of. But with the videos, it'd take some file converting.
there is no folder called Assests. the only folders are: CustomAssets, MODS, PublicMaps, Saves, TransferredMaps, Logs, Patch, Replays, and Screenshots. I checked every single file and cant find them.
also salar they are related -_-

The statue of liberty is basically a modern day colossus.

@JayEey Yes.. that is well known. The inspiration for Lady Liberty is the Colossus of Rhodes.
Both are "Light bearers".... carrying a torch to light the world, out of the darkness......

@JayEey So why has that statue not collasped now collosus fell 50 years after it was build

@robbertbonn They raided the colossus. Duh.

I don't think the real Colossus was as large as portrayed in this video.
8394147 2 years ago
It was over 50ft high. When it collapsed due to an earthquake, few people could make their arms fit around its thumb

You're right, I somehow recalled wrongly Strabo's account on the earthquake and the Colossus. Thanks for your correction.
Ennio444 2 years ago
@8394147 well nobody knows how tall or what the Colossus looked like.

@8394147
You are incorrect we still find some parts of Colossus
in sea to the island Rhodes which Colossus was build........
Several scientists can admit that Colossus was probably
bigger and from the Statue of Liberty..........
Thats why Colossus collapsed and so easily.........

I tried that but the files with the names are empty. it just goes Custom Assets-Art-Movies-wonders-then an empty file.
Anthonyk312 2 years ago
Custom assets are ones you add yourself. Look under Assets (it should be a different folder in the "Sid Meier's Civilization 4"
and like I said, it's going to need some file conversions, but at least now you'll have the files.
