Some of the games like Halo 2 can easily be recreated with 3DRad and the Apocalypx OpenGL Engine in less than 10 minutes with a Drag and Drop Interface.

@Landrar Tell me your experiences with both engines. 3DRad is extremely straightforward with little to no code required, but Apocalypx requires Lua to break the mold, although having a drag and drop interface to create a Stock FPS game. (Stock nowadays is what blew minds during the birth of the Original Xbox)

The best part is, they're both free, and 3DRad had support for networking games and games embedded into webpages. (All without code!)

@LaVivaGan I haven't used either of these engines. I've used blender to create 3d models and animations, and played around in Ogre a lot. I have a really good understanding of LUA, at least to the point of writing all my own addons when I played World of Warcraft. I also have a good grasp of C, C+, and C++.

I've done some basic games in Ogre, though trying to code, animate, and design an entire game from scratch would be next to impossible using that engine.

Yeah, I understand though, although there are kits to create 3D games, that are "newbie" friendly, it's really not worth it if you can't understand the class hierarchy of the game, to change whatever you feel needs changing. Yeah, you could create a good game, but anyone else using the kit easily could too with the same kit.

@CasnoGaming Fair enough, but at the same time, the original version of Minecraft was a very simplistic game. Lava didn't hurt you, there were no creatures, and many blocks acted differently. It wasn't until he formed a team that they started making it an actual marketable game, but yes, he did do most of the work himself.

While fun, though, would anyone compare Minecraft to Skyrim in complexity not to mention AI and graphics?

@Landrar I have to object: Notch made pretty much everything until recently(this includes most mobs and blocks). Originally, Jeb_ was hired as back-end programmer. He started adding new features himself only in late beta(he's leading development now).

Then we have C418 and Zetterstrand. They added music and art for paintings(interestingely no blocks, Notch pixeled them himself).

So in fact, Notch made pretty much the core of the game. It would have been marketable to an extend.

@CasnoGaming You are right, many of the game is one-man-work, but there are things you should note:

-Notch was already experienced in game making, and especially java, a programming language.

-Secondly, let's face it, graphic, AI and stuff is very, VERY basic. It's not a bad thing(voxels have charme).

-Another really important point is that minecraft lives with its game idea. To be exact, many indie-games live with it. So in other words, you need an awesome game idea.

@Soap360 I think the easiest way is to team up with someone. I am great at visual or computer arts, but would have trouble doing the programming. Know photoshop and used to use 3D Studio Max to create graphics and now even that is more user friendly. For me to learn programming would be a complete headache. Not impossible, but difficult.
