I just listened to Imaginaerum, Anette sounds much better than Tarja ever did on it. Hopefully her live performances will have also improved. It is a truly epic album, I can't stop listening to it.
@GinaNicole1105 She improved greatly at the live gig I saw them at last weekend. Of course songs like Nemo and stuff were modified so she could sing them and not ruin them but she did good and I've been very critical of her live performances for a while.
I originally preferred Once and Century Child but now....to be honest, I actually prefer DPP, and Imaginaerum is growing on me quickly. Just accept it's two phases of the same band. Neither singer is Nightwish, it's Tuomas's baby regardless of who sings the songs. Get over the petty squabbling. Listen to whatever vocalist you prefer, but stop putting down the other as a result.
To replace a original band member .LEAD. singer that makes Nightwish who they are with Tarja is like replacing ..... Ozzy with Jimmy Buffet and still using the name Ozzy. and Jimmy singing War pigs that's just my view of it other prolly see it diff but thats me :)
I just gotta say that Tuomas is an amazing musician and composer, otherwise why did the band choose Anette Olzon to be the new vocalist? They are quite aware she is trained and still keeps on training her voice to do the best for the band and herself. If Anette wouldn't be a musician she would haven't even cared about training her voice and herself much more. Now, I do love Tarja Turunen, I am quite honest about this, but honestly: Nothing is forever. The good thing about this is: none stopped!
I love Tarja and Anette is okay. But when it comes right down to it - these guys are Nightwish! I mean, even though Tarja was the "front" of the band and the face of the band. It's Tuomas' band.
Tarja wins, hands down. Her voice is more Epic, is more Metal. Anette's voice is still immature, more that of a girl than that of a woman. Tarja's on a different level, everyone can tell. Tarja has more experience and her voice is superior by nature. Let's put it this way: if Anette's the voice of a princess, Tarja's the voice of an empress. Thumbs up if you agree.

I got over my Anette hatred by focusing on the orchestrals on DPP. They're AMAZING! And from the sounds of it, Imaginarium should have an even greater focus on orchestrals. So as much as I love Tarja, I am totally okay with the direction they're going.

Nightwish is my favorite band, all of us love nightwish, and we love it because of tarja's classical singing with the heavy metal combination, and resulted to very good and wonderful music. Nightwish with Anette will not be the same, Anette's singing is more likely similar to what most singers do, but Tarja's voice is unique, special, and it's the thing that makes Nightwish a big gig, that's why Tarja has to continue singing with Nightwish.

man, the best thing in the world was her getting the boot from nightwish. Nightwish, more or less had a very linear sound, for the most part. The guitar, drums, singing, symphonic sounds always sounded very similar from song to song, with you know some variance of course to their sound with some songs but never much. It was like Tarja wasn't ever going to be able to sing any faster. But Tarja solo rules! it's obvious NW songs were gonna all sound the same album to album, Now Tarja is evolved
It's a shame that Tarja got kicked, if she would left it wouldn't be so bad. But kicks are always making negative situations. The badest situation is on Axl and Slash for sure.
I think NW invented a new style of metal (as Therion), metal music with the combination of classical voices. So I think there is much controversy with the new singer: new singer, new style of NW...that's all.

They sound like "they don't know anything about music"! That is the funniest thing I have heard. But when they pick up their instruments, they "sound" like musical geniuses. What should they say? we all know when a band comes out...we all get used to listen to the original singer..when this changes...most of the times is not the same...even if the band is the same except the singer...in some cases the new singer is good...and the band keeps selling rekords...but this is not Nightwish case...after Tarja...they haven't been the same...they just don't want to admit it...she really put a mark with her voice in the band.
Well... the problem is that many Nightwish fans were actually Tarja fans (me included). Now we couldn't care less about Nightwish anymore and I, for one, haven't listened to any of their new songs without Tarja. Good luck Tarja and good riddance Nightwish!
it is really hard getting over nightwish with anette because "HER" voice is murdering most of the classic nightwish songs. If she would stick to the newer songs made for her voice then i wouldnt get mad....

I just gotta say that Tuomas is an amazing musician and composer, otherwise why did the band choose Anette Olzon to be the new vocalist? They are quite aware she is trained and still keeps on training her voice to do the best for the band and herself. If Anette wouldn't be a musician she would haven't even cared about training her voice and herself much more. Now, I do love Tarja Turunen, I am quite honest about this, but honestly: Nothing is forever. The good thing about this is: none stopped!

Tarja wins, hands down. Her voice is more Epic, is more Metal. Anette's voice is still immature, more that of a girl than that of a woman. Tarja's on a different level, everyone can tell. Nightwish is my favorite band, all of us love nightwish, and we love it because of tarja's classical singing with the heavy metal combination, and resulted to very good and wonderful music. Nightwish with Anette will not be the same, Anette's singing is more likely similar to what most singers do, but Tarja's voice is unique, special, and it's the thing that makes Nightwish a big gig, that's why Tarja has to continue singing with Nightwish.

man, the best thing in the world was her getting the boot from nightwish. Nightwish, more or less had a very linear sound, for the most part. The guitar, drums, singing, symphonic sounds always sounded very similar from song to song, with you know some variance of course to their sound with some songs but never much. It was like Tarja wasn't ever going to be able to sing any faster. But Tarja solo rules! it's obvious NW songs were gonna all sound the same album to album, Now Tarja is evolved

Old NW used to be pure sympho-power metal, DPP cannot be compared with their previous albums cause it doesn't even represent NW. the combination of Tuomas music with Tarja's voice was something unique and magical and something that the band won't have again.

They sound like "they don't know anything about music"! That is the funniest thing I have heard. But when they pick up their instruments, they "sound" like musical geniuses. What should they say? Talk about F#? (That's F sharp in case you don't know I didn't mean to sound rude). They agree with the fans: (album with Tarja) was "the best we ever made".

we all know when a band comes out...we all get used to listen to the original singer..when this changes...most of the times is not the same...even if the band is the same except the singer...in some cases the new singer is good...and the band keeps selling rekords...but this is not Nightwish case...after Tarja...they haven't been the same...they just don't want to admit it...she really put a mark with her voice in the band.

Well... the problem is that many Nightwish fans were actually Tarja fans (me included). Now we couldn't care less about Nightwish anymore and I, for one, haven't listened to any of their new songs without Tarja. Good luck Tarja and good riddance Nightwish!

it is really hard getting over nightwish with anette because "HER" voice is murdering most of the classic nightwish songs. If she would stick to the newer songs made for her voice then i wouldnt get mad....

@Lichbane1 i agree they should not do any of the old songs its does not sound any where near as good. if anything they should have kept her an had the new singer too if she was a problem an just tell her we dont need you to keep her in line if that is what the problem was. but it really seems to me that Tarja just wanted to be included to what the hell was going on in everything like money wise an what needed to be done with things but all they wanted her to know an do is sing

@antix995 have you compared the 2? tarja vs anette? tarja's voice has a very vocal sound and she wants to sing, while anette's sound seems like she is rushing through the song because either she doesnt like it or wants to get through it fast

@80musicdied Although I also loved Tarja's voice and own her solo albums... She didn't write the music, She didn't play all the instruments. That was the (what you called) 'idiots'. Can you even imagine how DIFFICULT it was for a metal band to cater their music style to suit the voice of a CLASSICALLY TRAINED vocalist? Do you REALLY believe that Nightwish was ALL Tarja? Obviously YOU are the idiot and maybe you should stick to listening to sell-out bands like Kelly Clarkson and Evanescence.

All they said was that they knew she could sing but didn't know what style and that they were surprised to hear she was a classical singer. Nowhere did they say "So yeah, we knew this chick who sings and we just started recording an album, then pulled her in and threw her infront of a mic and let her do her thing"

@80musicdied Nightwish didn't jump straight in and make an album with Tarja without even knowing what her voice was like. They did a demo tape of three songs with her, and then when that gained recognition they decided to go for it and make an album.
