i really agree with thesummersion i hve seen the making of dil to pagal hai...plus i was there on the set when this song was been shot, karishma was again and again falling down on madhuri dixit and she admitted that its the most toughest job for her.....plus u cant compare the two of them.....and for those who thinks that madhuri cant dance like this......then they r wrong....she is a trained dancer......plus it was the demand of the scene that madhuri should feel underestimated ......
Dont judge their dancing skills by this video GO AND WATCH THE MAKING OF THIS DANCE PIECE then you might know who is better. Go and see how much effort karishma has to do for a single step. many a times she almost fell over madhuri while doing this dance. Karishma herself admitted that this was the toughest moment for her to match madhuri. I would strongly recommend all to GO AND WATCH THE MAKING before commenting.

I fail to understand why some feel that Karisma did a better job than Madhuri in this song...SERIOUSLY! Its like saying a 100 watts bulb is brighter than the Sun because its night time! This dance sequence was a staged n edited one, even then Karisma's dance looks like a desperate attempt to dance well, Madhuri is actually enjoying her stuff if you watch objectively..thats the sign of a great performer!
i think madhuri and karisma both are fab here. May be in some places madhuri is bit slow but then i won't ignore the fact that she is 8 year older than karisma. I think 8 years of age difference makes lot of change in energy levels.

I have to agree with UmraoJaann, In this dance bit Karishma simply outclassed Madhuri. No Doubt Madhuri is a good dancer she is more of a expression oriented dancer than the actual movement. Since the scene is of "ENVY" the director has to show Karishma as a better dancer.

So, as i've said before, they are both good in different ways, but I've seen the making of this movie, behind the scenes of Dil To Pagal Hai, and Karishma (who is indeed a great dancer) kept messing up. Madhuri had to stop several times so that Karishma could do it again.

Speaking out of the context of the scene, Karishma was younger and much more fit here and danced with more energy and attack. Madhuri executed everything well with more grace, but slightly slower movement. Totally different styles.

It's so funny how they intentionally made karishma darker in this movie and especially this scene to make Mad stand out as she is the lead actress in this movie and how they hid Karishmas blue eyes totally in this scene. I love both but Karishma always stays on top for me. Madz is awesome too.

Technically I do not care who is better dancer, I respect Madhuri but when it comes to Karishma, she is the best. She has the aura and personality to pull any character. She is tomboyish yet extremely feminine, she is slim with pretty curves. She is a true charismatic doll.
Why are people aruging about who is a better dancer? It's obvious they both have different styles and different training. I don't know about Karishma, but I know that Madhuri is a trained Kathak dancer, so her movments are meant to be more graceful. And that shows, there are some moves in this dance that Madhuri does better, while there are other moves that Karishma does better.
It's like the fox trot and tango. People who are practiced in each will have adavantages in certain moves.
People have to understand that Karishma just dances like that period I saw her dancing in Fiza and she danced the exact same way, was she suppose to be the better dancer in Fiza? NO! she's just gifted. Why she isn't up there or past Madhuri I'm not sure, maybe looks come in. Madhuri is talented but Karishma passes her. If Karishma and Madhuri were in an American or British dance competition and they had to choose between Karish or Madhuri it would be Karish 100%. Karish is better, admit it.
@UmraoJaann Sorry but in any dance show around the world it would be Madhuri simply because of the way her body is as well as the emotion from her. For example, look at 2:31 to 2:33 in this video and you'll see how different their arms look. Small things like that make a difference.

Among the best female double dance act in Indian cinema, after the Jayaprada/Sridevi dance in Majaal and Vijayanthimala/Helen performance in Dr Vidya. I like the way their dancing styles are brought together in the choreography. That's one brilliant part of DPH. But God, SRK was so NOT good-looking in the 90s. He definitely gets much better with ageing. Haha! :p

To me it looks like it's on purpose, that Karsima outshines her in this, just look at Madhuri's expression. They're both awesome dancers each in their own way.
Everyone seems to forget that on more than one occasion karisma has the good grace and humility to express her admiration for Madhuri and state she is her favorite actress.
That said in this particular dance Karisma outshines Madhuri, her moves are more crisp and energeticetc. Then again according to the script she is meant to be better. Madhuris has her own niche is probably overall the best dancer, but that doesnt detract from Karismas own talent or place in the industry.
I am a die hard karishma fan and personally i prefer her to madhuri but i will say that madhuri is the best dancer ever to step in bollywood nobody gives expressions like madhuri not even sridrevi, who for me is the greatest actress. However i would say that when it comes to western dancing Karishma is the best dancer bollywood has seen!

i really agree with thesummersion i hve seen the making of dil to pagal hai...plus i was there on the set when this song was been shot, karishma was again and again falling down on madhuri dixit and she admitted that its the most toughest job for her.....plus u cant compare the two of them.....and for those who thinks that madhuri cant dance like this......then they r wrong....she is a trained dancer......plus it was the demand of the scene that madhuri should feel underestimated ......

Dont judge their dancing skills by this video GO AND WATCH THE MAKING OF THIS DANCE PIECE then you might know who is better. Go and see how much effort karishma has to do for a single step. many a times she almost fell over madhuri while doing this dance. Karishma herself admitted that this was the toughest moment for her to match madhuri. I would strongly recommend all to GO AND WATCH THE MAKING before commenting.

Long back I saw an interview of Saroj Khan in which she says Karisma is the best dancer in all of the Bollywood. Madhuri rocks with her classical based dances but in these kind of dances Karishma is really incomparable. Just my opinion!

I fail to understand why some feel that Karisma did a better job than Madhuri in this song...SERIOUSLY! Its like saying a 100 watts bulb is brighter than the Sun because its night time! i think madhuri and karisma both are fab here. May be in some places madhuri is bit slow but then i won't ignore the fact that she is 8 year older than karisma. I think 8 years of age difference makes lot of change in energy levels.

everyone's entitled to their own opinion.. in this particular performance both actresses did a great job and in some places karishma was better, and in others madhuri.... but overall everyone knows that madhuri is without a doubt a much better dancer and this has been proved time and time again in her various dances from her films such as devdas, pukar, khalnayak, anjaam, beta, thanedaar, aaja nachle etc the list goes on... karishma only has a few memorable dance performances to her credit

So, as i've said before, they are both good in different ways, but I've seen the making of this movie, behind the scenes of Dil To Pagal Hai, and Karishma (who is indeed a great dancer) kept messing up. Madhuri had to stop several times so that Karishma could do it again.

umm Karishma is supposed to be the better dancer in the movie. That's the idea behind the scene!
Speaking out of the context of the scene, Karishma was younger and much more fit here and danced with more energy and attack. Madhuri executed everything well with more grace, but slightly slower movement. Totally different styles.

Both gave different ways and different style :-
Karisma - The way she gave was more like aerobic kind of style. Fast, energy but no grace, no smoothness, jumpy & rough.
Madhuri - Her movement a bit slower compared to karisma but she got this kind of beautiful body gesture, smoothness & gracefull.
This dance belongs to Karisma but in I can see Madhuri's shone in a certain parts.

Why are people aruging about who is a better dancer? It's obvious they both have different styles and different training. I don't know about Karishma, but I know that Madhuri is a trained Kathak dancer, so her movments are meant to be more graceful. And that shows, there are some moves in this dance that Madhuri does better, while there are other moves that Karishma does better.
It's like the fox trot and tango. People who are practiced in each will have adavantages in certain moves.

People have to understand that Karishma just dances like that period I saw her dancing in Fiza and she danced the exact same way, was she suppose to be the better dancer in Fiza? NO! she's just gifted. Why she isn't up there or past Madhuri I'm not sure, maybe looks come in. Madhuri is talented but Karishma passes her. Among the best female double dance act in Indian cinema, after the Jayaprada/Sridevi dance in Majaal and Vijayanthimala/Helen performance in Dr Vidya. I like the way their dancing styles are brought together in the choreography. That's one brilliant part of DPH. But God, SRK was so NOT good-looking in the 90s. He definitely gets much better with ageing. Haha! :p

To me it looks like it's on purpose, that Karsima outshines her in this, just look at Madhuri's expression. They're both awesome dancers each in their own way.

Everyone seems to forget that on more than one occasion karisma has the good grace and humility to express her admiration for Madhuri and state she is her favorite actress.
That said in this particular dance Karisma outshines Madhuri, her moves are more crisp and energeticetc. Then again according to the script she is meant to be better. Madhuris has her own niche is probably overall the best dancer, but that doesnt detract from Karismas own talent or place in the industry.

I am a die hard karishma fan and personally i prefer her to madhuri but i will say that madhuri is the best dancer ever to step in bollywood nobody gives expressions like madhuri not even sridrevi, who for me is the greatest actress. However i would say that when it comes to western dancing Karishma is the best dancer bollywood has seen!

.its only difference of out fits ,just gv d same costume to madhuri n then watch ,who beats whom . ny way according to film director wants to tell tht karishma is jealous frm dis new dancer in band ,so she had put her 100% to prove her better dancer,whras madhuri had to dance in innocent way .thts y madhuri is looking a bit low.
