They were relying on the facade cladding to hide the thermitic burning and splatter.
In the areas where the cladding was bent and displaced we can see their shit at work.
The outer structure was perforated by these cuts so when the main core charge sequence was initiated, the outer structure would offer no resistance to a symmetrical take down.
