the apollo missions were no more than a political statement, it was to show the soviet union it could be done

since then there has not been any real reason to go back to the moon, been there done that. Nobody wants to pay billions of dollars so that a couple of guys can go to the moon and collect rocks

There are a thousands reasons beyond, "collecting rocks" to study the moon. It's our closest non-atmospheric research station

NASA has been back to the moon 6 times since apollo 13! the last one being in 1972 via apollo 17. the reason why NASA hasnt returned since then is because of politics. if you know your history, you should remember how stupid crazy the US federal government was competing against the SOVIETS in every phase of everything and was desperate to be the first country on the moon. when NIXON came in, federal funding stopped entirely. hopefully obama sticks to his words, BASE RACE 2025 lets make it happen
