point 1 nullified: "simple biology" does not apply in this case because humans with technology give prey 0% chance of survival even in large numbers. there is no competition in a monopoly. think about this and you will understand.

point 2 nullified: your idea of "progress" based on the backs of other life is flawed. humans have tried to do this before which has always led to their downfall. history repeats itself if you choose to have short memories.

Pedro, simple biology: if you kill the predatory fish , yes , the population of fish who eats phytoplancton will expand number exponentially. PERHAPS, they will also eat the phytoplancton wich produce 70% of our oxygen.

encodion YOU would need a piece of brain. before developping hypothesis try to learn about the subject, how could you opend "shark farms" , first if the population of shark is reduce at least of 70% and more than 90% for the great white, and secondly, if a shark reach his maturity only at the age of 25, sometimes more.

sharks are now endengered despite the fact that they are necessary to the ocean's ecosystem. Don't forget that 70% of our oxygen comes from the ocean...

mm not condoning the action of shark finning. but it's important to take note that not all shark's fin from restaurants come from the practice of finning. You actually have restaurants that specifically ONLY buy from shark farms. That isn't any different than a sheep/pig farm to me. And on top of that, if you check, only 3 species out of 150 species of sharks are considered endangered. I just want to let people see there are both sides to this. I DONT eat shark's fin myself.

picloo, i don't know where you took those statistics but they're wrong, nowaday , the shark specie which least diminished diminished of 70% and the more 90% ( great white) and all the species of shark are now endengered

furthermore, i don't think that shark farms exist, maybe the restaurant who pretends to sell fins that only comes from shark farms lied to you. sharks reachs their maturity at the age of 25 !! all in all, shark farms could be efficient in a very long time after their opening
