  • Anyone first hear this song when Gonzo and Kermit sang it?

  • I'm 20 now, so I obviously wasn't born when this song came out, but my mom sang it a lot when we were in France 2 years ago. One day when we were driving home to the house where we stayed, my sister had to go to the toilet reallllly badly. So I went: "we need to make an excremental journey".

  • My Moms favorite song!

  • @jagrady55 Its a great song from the big band years !!

  • Sherman Potters favourite song :)

  • great !!

    orthodox is the best.

  • sunny, sweet and strong. A true American Treasure.

  • @annielouism That she is .... and what a treasure !!

  • reminds me of my mom, who left me brother nd dad, when i was only 2 yrs old.

  • when I was about 10 years old, I fell in love with Doris Day...She was so beautiful...I'm Still in love with her (sigh!!)

  • @MrSirDel That funny ... when I was about 10 I started listening to my Mom's Doris Day records..... and I've been a fan ever since !! I always tell my Mom its really her fault that I'm such a dayniac !! Happy you enjoyed !!

  • I love this song so much! <3

  • @DorisDaygirl97 Me too .... a really great song from Doris and the Les Brown band. I have a video with another version Doris recorded for her radio program. Its really my favorite version ... love both though.

  • @Dayniac4324 yeah it is. Have you ever heard that song "Sooner or Later"? I have that song on my iPod. :)

  • @DorisDaygirl97 I think I have ... but I'm going to have to look at my songs to see if I have it. I'm not sure !

  • Wonderful, thank you for positng this video. Doris is the best.

  • @cutanea2 She is the best .... I'm happy you enjoyed the photo's too !! Thank you !

  • @Dayniac4324 Thank YOU for positng this lovely song, I seem to remember seeing a film years ago in which Doris sings "Sentimental Journey" whilst she was on a train.

  • @cutanea2 I don't know what that would be - but if you remember please let me know !!

  • @dayniac....... It is this track Doris Day, Sentimental Journey, I was referring to. Thank you for your message.

  • what a beautifull lady

  • Dont think so love is amazing in every nature paul.

  • I think people tend to romanticize the days of yesteryear, and look back at these times with 'rose tinted glasses'. Many more societal ills existed and were in fact much more prevalent in the pre war decades and indeed in the 1950's and 1960's. Its all well and good looking at nice black and white pictures and swooning, but you'll find reality was quite different.

  • @rankingtrevor People romanticize the days of yesteryear, IMHO, because our own times suck so badly.

  • @rankingtrevor I think every time has it good and bad ... and there was certainly bad in the 40's. But... I still feel more at home in that time. I really don't like where our society is ... and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. We've lowered our morals so much .. I don't know where we can go from here.

  • @Dayniac4324 Well, there's always up. :)

  • @rankingtrevor Everyone is sentimental about their youth. It's part of growing old.

  • @rankingtrevor There isn't any year, era, or generation that is or was without it's problems. What's nostalgic about the "good old days" was that's when we young and had our whole lives in front of us. People remember the happy events more fondly than the bad ones and it was the good stuff that helped everyone get through the worst of things.

  • @kansaspacific Thank you !

  • absolutely beautiful :-)

  • @TheHitsOf1945 Its a song that certainly sums up the feelings of a generation. It meant a lot to many people.

Thanks ... really happy you enjoyed !

  • This is for my Mom. 87-year-old Doris Day broke a chart record by becoming the oldest artist in history to score a UK Top 10 album of original material. 'My Heart', which comprises 12 previously unavailable recordings from 1951 to 1994, went in at Number 9.

  • i love doris mcarthy

  • yes...too bad....the 40's were a time of unity... the socialists and their cronies had no chance of controlling a significant portion of our population then because there were very few twits in our country...unlike today.....we need another McCarthy to help cleanse us of this disease that has been allowed to grow like a cancer in this great nation

  • @retitus1 McCarthy was a monster and a coward. If you think socialism has EVER had any influence in the US then you are a fool. The 40's were 'a time of unity'? Well then maybe we should have another World War to unify us all again. While were at it let's re-introduce segregation and public lynchings of 'uppity' black people. That should help unify this great nation. If you can name a half-dozen socialists of any significance please do so, i'd be most grateful for your enlightenment

  • part 2, remainder of lyrics - oh, sorry my spacing didn't work in first one!

    last verse:

Never thought my heart could be so yearny / Why did I decide to roam? / Gonna take a sentimental journey / Sentimental journey home / Sentimental journey!

  • Sentimental Journey words and music by Bud Green, Les Brown and Ben Homer Lyrics: Gonna take a sentimental journey Gonna set my heart at ease Gonna make a sentimental journey To renew old memories Got my bag, got my reservation Spent each dime I could afford Like a child in wild anticipation Long to hear that "All aboard!" Seven, that's the time we leave, at seven I'll be waitin' up for heaven countin' every mile of railroad track that takes me back [no room for last verse-see my next post]
  • Beautiful photos - thank you for the lovely album! This song with Doris charted at #1 in 1945. Competing versions charted at #3 and #4. Les Brown redid it in 1951 with The Ames Brothers and it hit #23. Doris's voice is simply wonderful. I'll post the lyrics to this song separately.

  • I heard Doris had a very sad life! Her father was very unfaithful to her mother, she heard him with her mother's best friend, she would cry herself to sleep, she never had happy marriages! That just makes me love Doris even more, because she is a very fought woman!

  • I have the picture at 0:56, it's a funny picture!

  • Its just wonderful all the work you have put into getting Doris's song for us all. Thank you so much.

    Nate

  • @natentreyable Thank you for your kind words ... you've made my day !! I'm just so happy that you're enjoying and listening to Doris ... She's the best !! =)

  • She's so beautiful <3

  • @BesaOtaku She is a lovely lady ... so happy you enjoyed !

  • @Dayniac4324 I have been searching for the song Wallflower for quite some time with no luck. Know where I could listen to it?

  • I wish I'd been born in this time <3

  • @Jewels3369 I feel the same way !! =)

  • bla bla bla...stop whining about things that no longer matter!!! Just enjoy the music for what it is. A great song performed by a great artist. Respect the past, but embrace the future; change what you can, enjoy all you can, make life a better place for all.

  • Where can i get this version of the song? The link to the itunes version isn't the same. I am trying to buy the version with this long intro. Thanks x

  • @stephparker100 I'm not sure. I have it on a Les Brown & Doris Day cd. It's the version I usually hear from them. Sorry ,,,=)

  • Magnífico!!!

  • 1min 30 sec intro. thats like longer than metallica and other heavy metals

  • What a lovely voice this lovely girl had , thanks to people that keep records

of her the melodies and softness can't be repeated

  • Remember Doris singing "shaking the Blues away" in the movie with that crazy James Cagney ..??SHE WAS GREAT !!

  • @doodiddy03 Oh yeah .....thats a great scene. She would have been really something on the stage. Too bad she didn't like to perform in front of an audience, After her big band and radio days she didn't. Well I guess her tv specials might have had audiences - not sure. But ... yes that is a great movie with so many wonderful songs from Doris !!

  • Doris Day did a LOT in her life!

  • @TheGallianthe And still is ! Her animal foundation along with the humane society just built a facility on Cleveland Amory's horse ranch to help abused horses. She's still going strong and doing wonderful work for animals. She's quite a lady !

  • Awesome!!!!

  • @redparrot53 So happy you enjoyed !!

  • What's wrong with cussing and showing tits?

  • all these so-called starts now only know how to cus and show their tits.. back in the day the acted, sang and danced.. they were the true stars

  • @elkingayman Truely talented back then ... gotta agree with that !

  • @elkingayman You see it a bit today as well with the Disney channel, where they're trying to turn these starlets into pop sensations with a show that ties them all together....the mousehouse definitely knows how to crassly commercialize young people in order to further recruit younger children into a monatized cycle that keeps the magical kingdom out of hock.

  • I love Doris!

  • @BlackandBlue1929 Me too !!! =)

  • @Dayniac4324 So do I...they dont come any better than her!!!

  • @gv4161960 Have to agree with you ... completely !! =)

  • 11 old grumps tried to have their way with Ms. Day :)

  • @punjedi I guess they don't like good music like we do ! lol

  • @Dayniac4324 The only real music anyone ever made.... well and Goodman, Miller, Jolsen, Dorsey (J or T), etc... Aye. Good stuff.

  • @punjedi I love big band music. Its amazing the talent from those days. Wow ! Good stuff indeed !!

  • @punjedi And Gershwin, Irving Berlin, etc.

  • @ChicagoSouthDan Ahh Touche' yes, very nice:)

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY DORIS DAY!!!!!! Thank you for all the joy you give.

  • @BeanyboBean Have to agree with you .... she has brought so much joy ... hopefully she's having a lovely birthday !

  • A beautiful song sung by a beautiful woman!

  • @kinkajou777 You said it !!! =)

  • I LOVED....................THANKS.

  • @albamaria54 So happy you did.....thank you !!

  • Wonderful! THank you so much!

  • understated class

  • @jpg7069 Have to agree with you !!

  • A true lady all the way.

  • @AdamCartwrightILoveU You said it ... she's quite a lady ! Beautiful inside and out !!

  • The movie "New York, New York," is the Doris Day story. I love this recording, thank you.

  • @CuteCatFaith Well... now that I think about it ... it does have a few similarities. But I don't think its her story ... maybe they borrowed a bit from her life though......????? =)

  • @Dayniac4324 Well, that's what I heard when it came out. I could be wrong and I don't remember my exact source, but I grew up with some "Hollywood" types and apparently she had sold the story of a part of her life and they adapted it to form the frame for this movie, which I found very "flat" when it came out, but went to see at the movies. The abusive De Niro character was and is very disturbing to me.

  • @CuteCatFaith You could be right ... I don't really don't know. But - I've got a lot of Doris info and hadn't heard that. You are definitely right ... very similar story. And her first marriage was to an very abusive man. Interesting .. I'd like to find out about this. I think I'll check around and see what I can find out !! Thank you for the info.

  • @Dayniac4324 Yeah, I truly don't remember the source who told me that, but they were in the know. I don't think she ever wanted it "known" that this was essentially her story. Just my guess.

  • @CuteCatFaith I really had never heard that and I've read an awful lot about Doris. So .. thank you for the info. I think there's a lot about her first marriage she would like to forget. But, as she said - something good came out of it .. she has her son, Terry. She does like to look on the bright side of things !

  • @Dayniac4324 Yeah, in the movie, the Minelli character goes on to success and her son is growing, and she is still gracious and friendly to the DeNiro character.

  • We have to play this in Jazz band and it's sooo much fun :)

  • @Sakurashy131 Its a great song ... I hope you do have fun playing it !!!

  • beautiful face, beautiful voice, beautiful spirit....thank you Doris!

  • @whoadude1959 Agree with you .... that she is. And I thank her too. Happy you enjoyed !!

  • PERFECT! Music now a waist of time,so lame and uninspiring. Love you Doris!

  • @blisflix So happy you enjoyed !!

  • Good song

  • @scienceG16 Happy you enjoyed !!

  • I would have loved to have lived during that time as well.

  • @TheSassieSusie I know ... strange to want to have lived through those times but I sure do feel at home with that time !

  • Such a beautiful song sung by a beautiful lady.

Ahhhh, the 40's, I was not born yet, but, I learned all about them and the music etc from my parents, it was a truly a wonderful time, sure there were bad times, yes, but, all worked together, it was just, well, different. I love it.

  • @TheSassieSusie Yes it is that .... a great song of the 40's. Meant a lot to many people. I really love the 40's movies and music. I know what you mean .. I feel in tune with that time .. but wasn't alive then. Some really awful years and yet a time I would have liked to live in. Different times, different values .... different people I think. Thank you ... happy you enjoyed !

  • Brings back good memories of long, long ago!

  • @MsRoswin It does do that ... its a great song from the 40's. Happy you enjoyed !

  • please upload Doris Day - At The Cafe Rendezvous

  • Gee that's a swell song, sure brings back memories!

  • @rudiherold84 Happy you enjoyed ... and it brought you some good memories !!

  • there is not time to be other than the 1940s..... its a shame that we couldn't stay in that culture and unification that the country was in that time.... it us truly a shame

  • @zcjpmm I know what you mean. It was an awful time too ... but yes we were certainly working together. I often wonder if we could get our country to come together like that in these times. I really don't know if it would happen. I feel very in tune with the 40's ... I'm with you there !!

  • @zcjpmm Are you out of your mind?!?! I'm certain America can come up with a better unifying force than fighting Hitler and Hirohito. The death toll from WWII (military conflicts, Holocaust, etc.) is estimated at between 60 and 80 million. Sure, this is great music, but it hardly makes up for the devastation that occurred for more than half of the 1940's. Most of the pics in this video are from the 1950's and 60's, anyway.

  • @nauoYou are so right - it was a horrible time. Much hate, destruction and death. But at the same time I think what I and others like about those times is the fact that people and society were different from what we have today. My spirit feels at home in the 40's, crazy as that may be. And yes.. most of these pictures are from different decades because its a sentimental journey through Doris' life.

  • @zcjpmm Really? Unified by war...nothing more, surely. What about Race?

  • Where do you get all the S'wonderful pictures of her!? This is one of my favorite songs she sings, great upload Toni!

The slide show makes it even better! It's in my favorites!!!! (hugs)

  • @AllthatJazz62 Well..... I've been collecting photo's for many years... I have 1000's on my computer. It's a lot of fun to be able to use them with Doris' great music. This is one of my favorite songs too... so happy you enjoyed the pictures !! =)

  • I love this song....

  • @llawrencemajors Me too !!!

  • I'm trying to picture her walking up to the mike with the great Les Brown band behind her....What that era must have been like..the big Bands and vocalists like Doris...What a combo!!!!

  • @ukcatfan36 Wouldn't it have been fantastic to experience the 40's .. big bands... Doris and Les ?!!?

I feel so in tune with that era .. I feel like I should have been there .. seeing it all. Oh well .. we can imagine

    I guess !

  • always loved with her

  • @nutreaper Me too ... happy you enjoyed !

  • What a great lady!

  • @johnvuc That she is !! Happy you enjoyed !!

  • gosh what a great life Doris has always had, talented in so many areas. Sadly she lost her son but she is still going strong I love all of her movies especially Pillow Talk what a range on that woman and a dreamy voice WOW

  • @ednuk She really has had quite a life. If you get a chance to read her book .. its very interesting. Quite a career too - really the only entertainer to be successful in big band singing, movies, recording career, radio and tv. And you can add animal activist which she has devoted the last 35 years to. An extremely talented lady .. and a lovely human being too ! Thank you .. so happy you enjoyed !

  • love this song, will be played at my funeral as I make my final farewell..

  • @BILLYBADBACKTOO I think I'll be right there with on that thought... probably have quite a few of her songs played at mine !

  • @BILLYBADBACKTOO I'm going to have this one at mine too. My Dad had it at his and it was very fitting.

  • @BILLYBADBACKTOO great choice but im going out with we'll meet again sung by Vera Lynn

  • A TRUE ALL AMERICAN GIRL.NO ONE CAN REPLACE HER.

  • @mehrdadtedayrom You are so right ! One of a kind. So happy you enjoyed !

  • doris day...the last good girl...

  • @Kellogs43able that was ignorant. what about the frankettes?

  • @TheNeonTide that was sarcasm...you took my remark literally? god help you for being so dense....

  • @Kellogs43able you didnt sound sarcastic at all, i think you're just trying to save yourself right now.

  • Beautiful, talented and oh, so feminine. You just can't ask for more than that!

  • @logancody05 Have to agree with you there !! She's te best ! Happy you enjoyed !

  • A naturally beautiful woman!

  • @spacecadet507 She is ....and talented too ! And a great champion of animal rights ...she's quite a lady !! Happy you enjoyed !!

  • i hear this one in cold case, ¿is that bad?

  • I met Doris Day in 1938 at a cafe. They were playing a song by Connee Boswell's Blue Moon. Doris started singing and I walked over to her and told her how wonderful her voice was. We have been best friends ever since.

  • @dianamaryflorence That's awesome!!!

  • @dianamaryflorence

Wait, are you serious? If so, that's amazing.

  • @dianamaryflorence that's a great memory of a great human being. a NICE friend to have!! thanks for sharing.

  • Hi Dayniac,

Thank you for putting Sentimental Journey on YouTube. It's my favorite Doris song. I love when she sings seven and then sings the high note at heaven. It's a beautiful song.

  • @astralagosto It really is such a great song. I also like the version she didn int 1952. I think I like it more in fact. I have it in my videos also .. you might check it

out. I'm really happy you enjoyed... thank you !!

  • Hi, hello.. hope everything is fine with u and your family..

i am recently learning this song, .. love it. and her *guy is a guy* song.

im enjoying it so so so much . thank you so much for posting! best regards!

    love,. Tess

  • @tess10880 Hi Tess ... we're fine ... hope you are too ! Those are two great songs - I bet you are having fun with them. Thank you for watching .. I'm really happy you enjoyed this great song from Doris and the Les Brown band. Take care.. Toni

  • I am only 45 and I remember watching Doris in all of the awesome movies that she preformed in. My mother had this piece of sheet music and used to play it on the pump organ. When she passed away, that is the one sheet of music that I made sure to keep. Thank you for the memories! Peace&Love

  • @groovysherrie65 That is a beautiful memory .... I have all of her movies and am in the process of watching them in order ... its really fun to see her develop and change through the years. Happy you enjoyed this great one from Doris and the Les Brown band. Thanks !

  • Ms. Day sure was a pretty lady. And it is going to take a war to get us out of obama's mess we got right now. So in essence we are doomed because he and his cronies are pansies and hopefully one termers. We can't take 8 years of his failed rhetoric or we will be bankrupted and have 100% unemployment.

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE Yes she was... very pretty ... and very talented !

I certainly hope we will not have 8 years of Mr. Obama ! I think 4 will be sufficient.... too much in fact !

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE Right, that way we can get a Republican in office who will want to privatize Social Security. Are you crazy???? The unemployment rate was crashing along with the stock market, while George W. was in office! Obama inherited this terrible mess. Besides, how did this video of Doris Day become a political issue??? I came here to admire a beautiful woman and a lovely singer.

  • @groovysherrie65 Well -- don't think it was getting too political ... just responded to the comment. And you know...this is America ... we can all have our own opinions. I will admit I voted for Obama ... so I guess I can complain if I wish.

And yes ... Doris is a lovely lady .. and amazing singer .. as you can tell from my page ... that is my reason for being here.

  • @groovysherrie65 If we put in a Martian it would be better than odoofus. And all of the crash started when democraps got control in 2006. George W. Bush had the greatest economy in the history of the world. Privatize social security? Well it would be a far better fate than using it for out of control spending like odoofus and his crook cronies use it for now. odoofus inherited the democrapic mess CAUSED BY frank and pelosi. You know it and so does everyone else. odoofus is incompetent!!!

  • My father told me this story of how he got my mother to get up on stage and sing "Sentimental Journey"....back in the 40's. You go Mom.... see you both soon.

  • @edb081904 Thats a wonderful memory. It was such a popular and meaningful song to many at that time. Thank you for sharing that memory with us.

  • Were sinqinq this sonq in chorus~

  • @SaraWoldegebriel That should be fun !! Hope you enjoy the experience.

  • @Dayniac4324

    Thank you ...

  • @edb081904 Thank you ..happy you enoyed !

  • Another one my mother would sing to me.
