@BrokenWind08 Absolutely. The movie was kind of the last hurrah for the franchise. I think that Matt Groening and the other writers for the show fell victim to two fatal flaws for a comedy show's writers:

1. Taking themselves and their material too seriously.

2. Becoming more concerned with making episodes designed to push their political/ social views as much as possible than with making episodes designed to make viewers laugh as much as possible.

Unlike say, Family Guy, which only pushes pro-atheist jokes, the Simpsons includes lines like "Martin was like Jesus, only real!" and then turn around and have God say "I spend my free time planting strange fossils all over earth to confuse paleontologists". The Simpsons is one of those few shows that actually is just pure satire, and not another way to push someone's political agenda.
