If you had bad grades in high school, but a great SAT and ACT score, and spent maybe a year or 2 in college getting good grades, would I be likely to get in a nursing program?
@EducationVids666 No, you definitely don't stand a chance. It's EXTREMELY competitive to get into nursing because most people are VERY ignorant and think that nursing provides job security and good pay. Seems like most people haven't googled "No nursing jobs" or "No nursing shortage" or else they would have been intelligent enough to steer clear of this field. I am a Registered Nurse and can tell you that we have about 140 applicants PER nursing position at our hospital. That's sad!
@EducationVids666 yes, you have a chance if you can get good grades in related subjects in college or university (e.g. prove that you can do biology at a college level). Schools will value higher education as being a more accurate assessment of your abilities. The reason minimum entry requirements exist is because the school wants to be certain that you are capable of handling the course load.
@EducationVids666 In competitive programs like nursing often the minimum GPA for entry is higher then their cutoff and that's because they will admit students with the highest marks first until all of the positions are filled. Occasionally students can get in with the min requirements if they have experience in the field, so you may want to think about volunteering at a hospital. Also, be aware that if you don't meet the minimum cutoffs your application won't even be considered.
Hellllllllloooooooooooooooooo Nurse. lol someone had to say it might as well be me. i wouldnt mind meeting her if you know what i mean. i live in Austin too. I might run into her by accident {stalker} lol. alright i cant stop laughing but for real i think shes hot any one willing to second that.
i agree with job security..this career is definately recession proof! its not for everyone..very physically and emotionally draining..not everyone is cut out for this job.. burn out is easy if u dont balance your life
@jaysmic24 Wow, you're not very bright are you? Recession proof? Guess you haven't heard of the THOUSANDS of nurses that were laid off. Guess you haven't googled "NO nursing shortage" or "No nursing jobs" to see who there are THOUSANDS (literally) of BSN grads who have been searching for a YEAR. In fact, some aren't recent grads, they have 10-15 years of experience and haven't been able to land a nursing job in a YEAR! Nursing sucks. I regret going into it. Business it better.

You missed out 'Munchausen's by proxy', a very popular reason for people becoming nurses.

@EducationVids666 Do some research, requirements vary with the school, don't be afraid to go out of state/province.
