Well the way I see it, Dave is so much better at writing. He doesn't repeat as much as Kirk and he doesn't use the wah 24/7. But Kirk has better stage presence, more in touch with his fans, and definetly more energetic. Also, he's very emotional with his playing. Dave is too, but Dave is just angry most of the time.

So in some way, Kirk wins and in some way Dave wins.

IMHO, the only kirk solo that really blew me away (besides the ones based on dave's writing) was 'fight fire with fire'... other than that he has a few decent slow solos (like in orion) but mustaine blows him out of the water with any of his (not friedman's) solo in RIP and peace sells..

the best solos are simply just well thought out and mesh in well with whatever the riffs are playing at the moment. take for note the genius of alternating riff and solo in hangar 18.

in a way, a couple of Kirk's solos are over done and he sometimes thinks to hard when soloing. but hes still a very kick ass guitarist. Him and Dave are one of my favorites.

I am sorry but hammett just sux. His soloing is the same quality as a newbie players'. He can't clean pick to save his life and his riffs are mindless and unoriginal.

Dave is awesome and, sure he throws in some mindless shyt too, BUT he can clean pick and comes up with excellent original solos a most of the time. He also plays tough rhythm WHILE HE'S SINGING!!!. (No small feat) Yeah. He's not Marty but who is?
