Holy CRAP. I've never eaten "the durian itself", but I did just buy a pack of durian wafer cookies at Viet Hoa Asian Market in Denver. I opened the pack two hours ago, and my whole house STILL smells like I have a freaking propane leak. I'm not sure if it's the lingering aroma (we put the package outside a minute after opening it, and the buzzards won't even eat it) or if it's my damned burps, which won't go away. Get them for a friend - it's the ultimate "gag gift".

For animals, the smell is so alluring that even wild carnivorous tigers eats them.

For those who are worried about stinking up the place with durian smell, wrap the durian up in a plastic bag/newspaper and place a few sticks of coal next to the fruits. Trust me, the coal will absorb the smell. I usually do this when bringing around durians in my car, because our family has a durian orchard and we constantly bring them home to eat.

Unfortunately here in the U.S., as far as I know, we can't get durian that has not been frozen. Even the whole durian like he gets in this video has been frozen for shipping. I really want to try fresh durian, since I love the ones that I have tried even if they had been frozen. In fact I just bought one today and have been loving it, it's the best durian I have had yet. So sweet and so good, but I think my roommates are ready to kill me because of the smell.

The durian Bob tasted was originally from Thailand, these type of durains is nothing compared to the Malaysian durian. very pungent smell. Carry in your car for 30 minutes and screwed. The smells may last for 1 month or 2. But the taste, really, cannot describe, the one who eats and the one who smells, the outcome will be very different.

I like eating fresh durian then washing it down with ice cold milk. It's such a childhood treat that I miss this fruit so much. Durian milkshakes, candy, cake and jam FTW!!!! There are many ways to make with Durian. I grew up eating it so the smell does not bother me at all. Its something you can get used to eating depending on the sensitivity of your palate. It does not taste like onions IMO.
