why does the mushroom slow down when it approaches the ground coming down from the jump? also why does his shadow kind of run away from him when he speeds up?

haha my first response was "because it was my first ever animation attempt in blender!!!" ...but then i realised i was being a bit defensive. constructive criticism is good :)

Agreed, shadows need some work, as they were generated with multiple lights and some of these conflict as you noticed.
