I don't work at sephora but I do work in the beauty industry and honestly when you are trained with a brand or several brands its hard to keep track of all the ingredients. It does not mean that the person is not knowledgeable (at least most lol). Sampling is also a hard thing with a lot of retailers because its not like it us to be they don't really send brands samples like they do at a sephora or ulta. Those retailers buy in to a sampling program as most retailers don't. I hope that helps =0)
Just a heads up as to WHY some sales associates can be stingy with samples is because A) They work on commission and you asking for a sample typically suggests you are not there to spend money but rather to try products out. Otherwise....wasting their time (in their eyes). And B) They have sales goals (a quota they need to match or surpass every shift) and don't want to 'waste their time' with someone who is not interested in making a purchase right then and there.
I love how super aware Andre is of himself, I can't hold it against him because of his career. But it's so interesting to watch how he functions when he knows the camera is on him. He only blinks when he's not looking at himself on the screen. And the little open mouth, sucking in the cheeks, with the intense smize - love it!! You guys are wonderful and I adore your videos!
Im so jealous of your skins... why do a lot of males have to have the skin that females (like me) want so bad XD .... oh this is random but how old did andre start modelling?
@cutevwbug totally agree. They are like master hoverers...its like, "I'll tell you if I need help or not. Please back away, you're sucking away my precious oxygen."
HOW OLD IS ANDRE?.I WISH U CAN DO MORE NATURAL MAKE UP VIDS FT ORDINARY GUY .NOT A FLWLESS MODEL LIKE HIM.COZ IT MAKES NOT FLAWLESS PEOPLE LIKE ME FEEL SAD ...MUM ASPIRIN PLZZZ ;'(
It's really very difficult to find a sales person at department stores that actually know what he's/she's talkin about !! Thanks God we have youtube and internet too at least have a good idea about what possibly can work for us !
My Shiseido cleansing brush was 25 dollars, I've had it for almost a year and it looks brand new. Worth every penny. The one you have looks positively awful, lol.
I wish you had shoppers drug marts in the USA. Its awesome the training that they give us beauty advisors at shoppers... I think you would love shopping there :)
LOL Andre just knows hes Gorgeous XD Look how he dazes at the camera he he, great review I like the sound of that brush... recently had a mad breakout dew to abit of stress and I never have acne.. and its left blemishes... thing is my skin is ultra smooth its so annoying what kinda tips would you give to try and erase ... i was thinking Glycolic 10% face wash ? even a milk concealer to help hide them.
And I'm always jealous about your policy cause when you're not satisfied about a product you can return it, whereas in France again and in Europe in general I believe it's impossible. Even when a girl recommend you the wrong shade , there is no way !!
OMG I couldn't agree more with you ! It's really rare to deal with knowledgable sellers.
Most of the time when I listen to the girls that are "explaining" me about the product I'm always thinking "omg are you really payed to say that ? " and most of the time I always end up finishing their sentences cause they're not professionals.
The worst is that in France it's almost impossible to get samples from sephora, not to mention the department stores ! Only kiehl's and lush are generous I would say
I love Chipotle!!! Thanks for the video. I must go down by Union Sq. & 16th to see the statue of Andy Warhol. Also thanks for the info on the exact location of Carrie Bradshaw's apartment building. I didn't think it was uptown (on the series it was supposed to be near 72nd around Madison).

im pretty sure dermalogica do that kinda brush too......but i've never used it- but if dermalogica products are anything to go by, it could be worth buying?
Ahh! You + Andre = too much gorgeous in one video!
I totally have the same experience at Sephora. The sales reps don't strike me as particularly knowledgeable about the products the store carries beyond whatever the package says.
love chipotle lol damn it now i'm craving it and it's an hour from my house. :((( I was going to say your friend is so handsome and i'm glad he's a model. he should try to be an actor too. i loved seeing the day in the life video, it was a nice change
@charmzz101 I am pleased with it for the price. However, the one from shiseido is still much more substantial and effective. Certainly I think you can achieve a phenomenal cleansing effect with either of these less expensive options :) Thanks for asking!
Sephora often has reps for specific companies sit in at the store, often they blend in with the other staff and you can't tell the difference. I usually will go up to the person who looks like the Manager/Supervisor to ask my questions.
When I was using clinique, I knew more than the people behind the counter. I hate it when they try to seem like they know what they are selling. I wish they would be honest and just say this not my department I am just filling in, if that is the case. I had the best service from a man who was honest that he was filling in from the men's department. He kept asking the lady at the Estee Lauder counter were things were.
@orangeyumpop That is cute and thank you so much for your kind words...I will tell Andre that he SHOULD have his own channel. Unfortunately, it is impossible for him to actually have one since he is contractually bound to only appear on my channel. :P Life is tough sometimes hehe ;) Thanks for watching! -Michael
really there's very little difference between department stores and hardware stores...in both instances you end up having to go and find what you want yourself because you are the only one in the place who actually knows what any of the stuff in there is for.... I have stopped going to counters and not giving full disclosure about myself because I felt a bit mean.
you are giving the gals at sephora gals more credit than they deserve!- one kept asking me may i do your makeup-i told her you wont be able to do it- I have ask about active ingredient- they get a deer in the head light look-I miss new york- my dear friend was a well known designer there- he did many famous homes- but suffered a break down! so sad----did you know Andy Warhol had his mother do a lot OF HIS paintings! Chipotle i LOVE THAT PLACE!- EXTRA cute vidoe x shelly
I'm certain the Sephora sales folks were stumped by you guys. Your skin is amazing. And you're right. They are pretty generous when it comes to dispensing samples. Let's hear it for New York. Love your channel.
can u please make some recommendations for sunscreen for someone with dark skin....i find the majority of the ones i have tried look super greasy or they leave a white film on my skin! thanks!
I really get what your saying about people who work at Sephora. I work at Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada in the Cosmetics and skin care section, and we know so much more about ingredients in things and we constantly go to different workshops to further our knowledge about everything (even as a part time worker!)
Also, about the brush, I bought one at my work about a year ago and YES it does make a difference using one of them, I could only imagine what a Clarisonic would do for my skin!!
I noticed that the more dismissive and arrogant I am with the associates, the better results it yields! I get top service, they skip through boring sale pitches and practically carry you in their arms to the register. I hate that as I am accustomed to treating people in service industry with respect and dignity. In terms of samples, I am only handed those freely when I'm wearing a face full of makeup in full bitch mode. Despicable.
It is very frustrating when a customer, who is willing to spend their hard earned money, to purchase a skincare product, is faced with a salesperson who knows close to nothing. You can pretty much get an idea within the first few minutes, and then I want to get out as soon as possible because I am wasting time. I agree that for high end stores and even others, the sales people should be educated and even willing to give out samples. Isn't that the point? Thanks for sharing!
Here (in Norway) beauty samples are usually reserved for those who spend a fair amount of money in the store... and/or go to the same store (if it's a chain of several stores) more or less regularly, and happen to talk to the same sales personnel each time. On the upside, though, the sales personnel tend to be very knowledgeable about what they are selling. Often times there is a sales pitch involved, of course, but usually they do whatever they can to help. :) Love your videos - so informative!
That was funny when the girl at sephora told you she used drug store products and never used the product that she was trying to promote. I'll assume that sephora gets approx what I got as a discount when I worked at neiman marcus which was 30% so I'd totally buy sephora products if I worked there.
Great as usual, thanks to you I have learned so much about my skin and I am so greatful. I hope you get your reward for your hard work and you seem to be a very nice person.
trueeee story: So I immediately click this video and search for the bloopers in hopes to see you less polished and absolutely PERFECT and a little flustered, ya know..to make me feel better for my jumbled speech and limited vocabulary. Then I realize it's your friend who was flustered andddd my day has officially been ruined. haha. I love you & your friend and am so glad you did this video! <3
Thank you, Michael! Yes, you are a natural in the camera and so freakin articulate. You're both gorgeous!
You have a good point about the products pushed in the stores. They tried to push a lot of the fresh products on me last week. But, I still feel that they are very nice at Sephora, very approachable, and generous with their products.
For some reason the MAC pro store in Robertson have the nicest sales people, more approachable than other standing MAC stores.
I always found that I got more samples in the USA than here in Ireland gifts with purchases are always better in the USA too as you have to buy less to get them.. In ireland you practically have to promise your first born to get a sample
I'm always able to get samples for some reason, maybe because I wear a lot of eye makeup or it could also be that I'm knowledgeable about products already so they assume that I buy a lot of products?? OMG! I had Chipotle for the first time on Friday when I was in the US! I had a bowl with chicken...SO GOOD!
@sokolum79 Good point! And on the Chipotle note, I am totally sitting here responding to comments waiting till 10 o'clock to come so I can get some Chipotle for lunch. :P
This was such a pleasure to watch. Loved seeing and hearing about your trip, very interesting and of course you are both very easy on the eye! ;-) Thanks for sharing Michael x
As a new cosmetics counter worker, you have to think of these people as sales people not makeup artists or skincare experts. Sad as that sounds. We're trained on sales pitches not actual information. Of course, I work hard outside of my job to be educated, but there aren't many that do. Also, there are a lot of freeloaders who just dig for samples with no intention of ever buying the product. That's why we have to be tough about it :).
@LetsMakeitUp1 Thank you! Yeah, you raise a lot of good points. While what you say seems like it should be common sense, it would be nice if people would finally figure out that being well-informed and genuine is actually BETTER when it comes to selling a product than simply looking and acting like another 'used car salesman'. On the issue of samples, how much could a company possibly lose by being much more free with samples--very little. How much could they gain -- a lot. Thaks for watching :)
@TheSublimeAgent I completely agree on both counts :). I'm an odd duck at the counters, because I will sit down with people and be open about what products will and wont do. Sometimes I don't make my sales goal, but I feel better about the information I gave and the people I helped :). (And don't tell my boss, but I always give samples. lol)
After watching a lot of you tube vids about skincare and cosmetics I thought the sale persons were a lot better informed and more professional then here in Europe (Belgium) here they don't know there products and you have to almost begg for samples...but it seems you have the same problem over there.
@gnoothii Just goes to show you that people are the same anywhere in the world haha! Yes, we definitely have the same problem here. People need to have more integrity at their jobs. :)
@JGshowboi Hehe, Thanks so much!! Yes, you must visit :) It is a one-of-a-kind place. It seems very dirty and annoying at first (I have been 11 times), but after the initial impression, it is so beautiful and almost surreal :)
@TheSublimeAgent Thanks for the reply. Sadly I havent been at all to America and would love to go - I suppose I only see New York as what it is potrayed in films and TV as an amazing city full of shops (and as you said sephoras everywhere). Can't wait for your next video :)
Great video. I love your skin, it's perfect. I got broke out recently due to season changes. I have little pimples underneath my skin and some big one around my cheek area. I tried Murad acne spot treatment ( it helped at first, but after a couple days pimples got back). Do you have any recommendations for good blemish concealer that can stay on for a long time and acne products ? Thanks so much Michael !!
I don't work at sephora but I do work in the beauty industry and honestly when you are trained with a brand or several brands its hard to keep track of all the ingredients. It does not mean that the person is not knowledgeable (at least most lol).

Anyway, I love you and your

I always found that I got more samples in the USA than here in Ireland gifts with purchases are always better in the USA too as you have to buy less to get them.. In ireland you practically have to promise your first born to get a sample
magsgemini 9 months ago
I'm always able to get samples for some reason, maybe because I wear a lot of eye makeup or it could also be that I'm knowledgeable about products already so they assume that I buy a lot of products?? OMG! I had Chipotle for the first time on Friday when I was in the US! I had a bowl with chicken...SO GOOD!

@sokolum79 Good point! And on the Chipotle note, I am totally sitting here responding to comments waiting till 10 o'clock to come so I can get some Chipotle for lunch. :P

LetsMakeitUp1 9 months ago
@LetsMakeitUp1 Thank you! Yeah, you raise a lot of good points. While what you say seems like it should be common sense, it would be nice if people would finally figure out that being well-informed and genuine is actually BETTER when it comes to selling a product than simply looking and acting like another 'used car salesman'. On the issue of samples, how much could a company possibly lose by being much more free with samples--very little. How much could they gain -- a lot. Thaks for watching :)
TheSublimeAgent 9 months ago 4
@TheSublimeAgent I completely agree on both counts :). I'm an odd duck at the counters, because I will sit down with people and be open about what products will and wont do. Sometimes I don't make my sales goal, but I feel better about the information I gave and the people I helped :). (And don't tell my boss, but I always give samples. lol)

After watching a lot of you tube vids about skincare and cosmetics I thought the sale persons were a lot better informed and more professional then here in Europe (Belgium) here they don't know there products and you have to almost begg for samples...but it seems you have the same problem over there.
gnoothii 9 months ago 3
