From medival age up to the 19 century there was no such thing as ehnic or national awareness in europe. Example German and Slovenian Carinthians were all aware of that they belong to the Duchy of Carinthia and they didnt have any hostile feelings towards each other. They didnt have any desires of great Germanic Empire or Great Slavic Empire The hostilities began when national awakening began in 19 century. SInce then europe was fucked up with nationalistic ideas like this

Third, religions were always used for political purposes, and I really do not know why a country must have it's national religion. Make them all equal.
