  • @bentonvillefisherman Most modern firearms are able to be dry fired without a problem, with the exception of rimfires and some revolvers. The best thing to do is read your manual and see if the company warns against it. I have a gun that the company says not to dry fire unless I take the magazine disconnect out. I have dry fired a 1911 hundreds of times without issue. Like I said though, research the weapon to make sure it is appropriate to dry fire.

  • @bentonvillefisherman Its a bad idea with old firearms, the reason is that older rifles have bad heat treatment on the metal part more to the point the fireing pin, a fireing pin that is too hard can rupture, with improvements in firearms manufactureing you dont have anything to worry about with firearms made around 1940s and after
