  • With more sex?? My goodness

  • Groucho Marx was a famous dolphin right?

  • I actually laughed.

Modern comedians are joke (not a funny one though).

  • Are you a foot doctor?

  • Most comedians arent funny anymore, what happened?

  • I love how Groucho completely steals anything he's in.

  • lol "for how much?"

  • Wow that female wrestler is beautiful

  • @trainmaster555: HELL NO!! Too much MSNBC!!! Groucho was a capitalist! Stick to MTH 3 rail!

  • @paullubliner lol

  • The cut to Groucho with the cigar always cracks me up.

  • if you clicked dislike you're either satan or high up in the satan administration

  • This almost had to be set up...

  • The single funniest quip ever enunciated by Groucho was delivered on his show You Bet Your Life.

He asked a female contestant what she did for a living. She relied: " I'm a housewife."

Groucho then asked if she had children. She responded: Yes, we have 11 children.

Groucho exclaimed...11 children? The lady replied: Well, Groucho, I love children.

Groucho: lady, I love my cigar...but I take it out of my mouth once in a while.

  • @Easleytee Check out Snopes. It never happened. I

  • @Easleytee LOL

  • @Easleytee snopes.com/radiotv/tv/grouchocigar.asp

From Groucho himself, in an interview from 1972:

"I got $25 from Reader's Digest last week for something I never said. I get credit all the time for things I never said. You know that line in You Bet Your Life? The guy says he has seventeen kids and I say: 'I smoke a cigar, but I take it out of my mouth occasionally'? I never said that."

  • my dad named his cat groucho because he looked like he had a mustache like marx

  • Mr daly It´s Kevin Spacey twin!!!!!

  • Groucho Marx was the best!

  • hahahahahaa i love him...

  • Groucho made me laugh

  • Groucho, Steve Allen, Ernie Kovacks...all quck-witted, way ahead of their time....cant get enough of these shows

  • Groucho...THE best of all time...pure genius !!

  • Groucho is pure genius! Too bad so many people don't know who he is anymore.

  • Most comedians aren't funny 20-30 years after their time. Grouch is still funny 80 years after his.

  • There is no way Dorothy Kilgallen committed suicide. She was murdered after saying that she had discovered something that was going to break the whole JFK assassination mystery wide open.Dorothy Kilgallen was found dead, sitting fully dressed, upright in bed, early in the morning. All her notes and the article on which she had been working to "blow the JFK assassination wide open" also disappeared.Just another of many victims trying to get the truth out of the Kennedy assassination.

  • @itsmylife1776 Nonsense, Read "Reclaiming History" by Vincent Bugliosi for a real look at the crime.

We could not believe an evil disturbed punk could take out an important person. Well, he did, all by himself. We as Americans have to live with it. As for Dorothy Kilgallen, drug over doses happen every day every where. Think about this, If any foul play were suspected, friends and family would not have let her death rest.

  • what happened to good funny stuff like this, because now we are stuck with the jersey shore

  • What does gorucho say at 2:05?

  • @Imrahil i believe he says "are you a foot doctor?"

  • Poor Dorothy Kilgallen, still smiling there, who'd have guessed she'd be murdered in her room some years later.

  • @Zeanu From what I recall, there is little evidence to suggest that Dorothy was murdered - her death certificate reads "undetermined" as the cause of death, but the most likely cause of death was suicide from drinking poison. The only reason people ever considered that she may have been murdered was because of her pursuit of conspiracy theories regarding the death of JFK - the FBI had an extensive file on her because of this.

  • @NewhamMatt I'm not really one to bother with conspiracies, haha that fascinated me as a kid, but what drove her to suicide? Such a nice lady.

  • @Zeanu Actually, my bad - she died from drinking a combination of alcohol and barbiturates, but it's frequently thought that her death was an accidental overdose.

  • Groucho was the best spontaneous comedian EVER! He could keep them coming NON-STOP. There'll never be another like him.

  • groucho was too cool!!!!

  • Groucho upstaged everybody wherever and whenever he appeared. Everybody else took a backseat to him. Except on one occasion....his death. Because his death immediately followed Presley's, there was vey little press on it and that was sad...and still is. Truly a one-of-a-kind.

  • My Dad is being Groucho Marx for Halloween hahaha\

    I love him!

  • lmao holy crap thats hilarious

  • 0:37 would have elicited a similar response today. X-D

  • Groucho certainly got the ball rolling for everyone else! Even Mr Daly was in hysterics!

  • Groucho Marx was born October 2, 1890 in New York City, New York, USA. He died from pneumonia August 19, 1977 age 86.

  • Somthing like this show is on Czech TV these days and it doesn't even come close to this old show :)

  • It was a comedy of manners back then..... while the things being said by Groucho are dirty, you have to think about it to get the joke. He doesn't just come out and say, "She's a hooker and does." It's all hints and entendre. My favorite moment is after Dorthy Kilgallen's innocent slip up (she was very much a lady), and then Groucho shakes her hand and Arlene Francis'. It's just brilliant.

  • Groucho is the man

  • for how much? hahaha!

  • Groucho, although hilarious, was a dirty man.

  • Groucho was in his own little world.....

  • I'd love to know the name of that wrestler.

    what a looker.

  • @claudelebel55

    Judy Grable from Miami, FL.

    xHCWDOzX244

  • @claudelebel55 her name is judy grable the whole clip can be found under judy grable and groucho marx

  • Old humor -- funny.

  • this must have been really pushing it for back in the day!

  • THAT is how paralyzingly funny Groucho could be! Arlene and Dorothy are about to lose their lunch from laughter at that crack. "...although I've heard of a few who have". That guy did not care-it all all or nothing. "All" usually won out.

  • exactually what so special to post on Tubebay????

  • " a wmoan can't make a living just being a blonde... although I've heard of a few who have"

  • wow comedy now-a-days SUCK. we need this show to come back.

  • @Hadeydeppio Ya know you're getting old when you start saying stuff like that.

  • @thejesman im 17 :p

  • @Hadeydeppio this show now would have boring celebs on it and boring people

  • @Blackjesus3 yeah thats the only thing. maybe they should just show re-runs of this then !

  • @Hadeydeppio ye they should

  • where is that lady's chin!

  • 2:26 Is that the voice of Elmer Fudd? Or am I just crazy?

  • @JoyceJennings hahahaha it is!!!

  • @JoyceJennings - it does sound a bit like him, but no, Elmer Fudd was performed by Arthur Q. Bryan until his death in 1959. After that, he was usually performed by Mel Blanc until Blanc's own death in 1989.

  • flat faced lady is creepy

  • What the heck was it about the old TV film that made anyone on a "live studio audience" show look like they constantly had shadows behind them? It's mild on this one, but it's there...

  • oh my god, this is the funniest episode of WML i've seen!!! LOL

  • I don't think it was naïve; rather dealing with the repression bubbling beneath the surface. (I'm a child of the '50s)

  • The first blonde joke?

  • Groucho = priceless.I think current and up and coming comedians could learn a thing or two watching the late greats!

  • @danjf1 Yeah, Seinfeld sure did. A lot of his material is like listening to Abbott & Costello. (turns out he's as big a fan as I)

  • One of the funniest "What's My Line's".

  • Not only is this still funny after 50 years, it may actually be FUNNIER than it was then. I couldn't stop laughing.

  • "Are you a foot doctor?"

  • "how much ?!"

  • When an 18 year old born 100 years after Groucho finds him to be the most interesting, witty and funny person he's ever seen it really says it all about the universal appeal and timelesness of his jokes and persona. I put him in the same category as Beethoven, Mozart, van Gogh and all the other geniuses whose echoes, if not their own voice, will be heard by my grandchildren and their grandchildren

  • @thegunner16 so true I'm 16...I love groucho but I do like Jack Benny better...but I agree Jack married into the marx family.

  • Groucho is my favorite Marx.

  • Groucho = Best comedian ever.

  • This man was the most incredible comedian of all time. Such a fine person, indeed. We miss you so much.

  • wow just a mention of sex and the whole audience goes crazy, and a mention that someone might remove his clothes and the host says "I quit".

    we've come a long way.

  • @wattever333 ,

Considering around this same time period, the word "pregnant" was not even allowed to be used in regard to Lucille Ball (who was married), you have to assume that this was done live. It couldn't have been shown any other way.

  • Groucho was the best!

  • who is she?? quien es ella!?

  • AH, what was the LINE?!?!

  • @jerms246 --She was a female wrestler.

  • what an amazing piece of footage

  • i wanna name my kid groucho

  • hey! that last question was a logical one! XD

  • did he start the whole blode joke thing?? LOL!

  • Kellogs made whats my line.

Was it a serial [ho ho ho]?

  • I like John's laugh at 2:14 lol!!!!

  • Actually, this mustache is real. The one in the movies with his brothers (up to a point) is fake.

  • You can tell Groucho's just having so much fun with this... then again, he always seems like he is...

  • ***For Phreak: It's easy: It's the episode called 'What's my line; Judy Grable & Groucho Marx'. You can find it here.

  • "A woman can't make a living just being a blonde, although I've heard of a few who have."

That has to be the single funniest thing I've ever heard from the olden days. I never knew people that funny existed back then.

  • SO.. WHAT DOES IT MEAN EXACTLY??

  • @wintersband apparently you never watched "one two three" and "the apartment"

  • @wintersband While I agree that line is funny, I think your other statement about how you didn't know funny people existed in the past is stupid and blatantly ignorant. I mean, come on, you only thought comedians were funny in recent years? I suppose you're a Dane Cook fan in your early teens, then?

  • Arlene is just sitting back enjoying the show..LMAO!!

  • Even Dorothy Kilgallen couldn't stay serious with Groucho sitting next to her. LOL

  • Groucho was epic. Nobody but nobody had a quicker wit and so goddamn hilarious right off the top of his head, regardless of where he was or who he was with.

  • A lot of the stuff Groucho said would have been considered dirty by the standards of the time, but now makes a lot of the stuff that's said by comics and tv shows nowadays look tame and even family-friendly by comparison.

  • I need to see the full episode of this!!! lol XD

  • It be nice if the film had no skips in it

  • Great comedy always stands the test of time, and this one surely stands the test. To this day it's still so funny. Probably even funnier given that back when this was filmed the censors were probably on pins & needles wanting to cut this all out.

  • Groucho rules.

  • Maybe the single funniest episode of What's My LIne.

  • Happy Birthday, Julius, (Groucho) You are my greatest role model.

  • Grouch is my hero.

  • I wouldn't go so far as to be blasphemous, but Groucho may truly be the best comedian of all time.

  • I would. I'd even say that if Groucho is in heaven, God must be laughing his holy rear off. He wouldn't let him go to hell ;-D

  • It would be blasphemous to say that Groucho WASN'T the best comedian of all time.

  • @meanwiddlekid To say Groucho Marx was a bad commedian is an understatment as large as several universes exploding.

  • @meanwiddlekid only the best 1 liner. bob hope was the king.

  • @meanwiddlekid just like saying chuck norris can't divide by zero

  • @meanwiddlekid

Bravo and well said. ! And BTW, in his book, "The Groucho Letters", he made it plain that a TRUE comic doesn't need to lean on foul language, in disguise of humor. Grouch never did, and his was a true gift of talent that will never be equaled.

  • Groucho is able to make people laugh as hard from old clips as any commeidan that has come since and probably more so. I'd have to say he should have Washington's spot on the rushmore of comedy

  • Amen brotha. Groucho is GOD.

  • Groucho; great, genius, GOD

  • This is the game show as FIgure It out, but for adults and not for lil kids

  • Arguably the best one they did. Just one laugh after the other. Great finish.

... Are you a foot doctor? Genius.

  • The foot doctor line was my favorite, too.

  • Groucho is a pimp.

  • Damnit Time Warner; I have it GSN, then by some odd notion, you take it away? and then you charge more.

  • This is hilarity at its best.

  • Only great ones can make you laugh after some 50 years with the same joke. God bless Groucho.

  • @Pitumisio and that's 50 years worth 50 dollars

  • Rofl! haha! Groucho's comments were hilarious!

  • LOL

  • A truly great funny segment from a classic television show.

  • Hilarious! Groucho is a trip!

  • Wow, saying "sex" on TV in the 50's! That must have been pushing a taboo back then!

  • Groucho's very appearance makes the show funny he knows just the right moment when to inject a line. The world would be so much better today if we had a Groucho Marx.

  • Exactly. Timing is EVERYTHING in comedy!!!

  • This is moooooorrrrre than GOODIE!!!

    The Missy is Fab!

    Every word is HILARIOUIS !

  • "Are you a foot doctor?" So awesome.

  • ROFL! :))))))

    This is freakin' funny!

  • so funny. my fav line: "For How much?"

  • that was hilarious, I wish you have put the whole episode rather than clips frrom it

  • hahah we know what's on Dorothy's mind!! she's the greatest!!

  • deal with more sex lmaooooooooooooooo

  • This one is very "sexy".

  • Just love the way Groucho makes Dorothy say sex on the air!!!!

    Thanks!

    Max

  • Groucho was light years ahead of his time....mr Daly is wigging out bigtime....he starts twitching, watch him! too funny

  • Groucho is a master of wit, a true master.

  • groucho, you are the best!!!! XD

  • Groucho is amazing...

What's my line?, I've got a Secret, and You bet Your Life are some of my favorite game shows, and I'm not even 16 haha ^_^

  • Nice rug, Groucho.

  • Poor Dorothy Kilgallen - when Groucho wasn't providing the jokes, she was making them accidentally!

When people talk about "naive" ' 50s entertainment, I think about things like this. It usually WASN'T naive!

  • :23 thats a blond joke

  • Is not!

  • so funny ...thanks alot for this enjoyable clip !

  • John Daley trying to keep his composure is worth watching it again and again..

  • Lol "I quit, I quit!" Hilarious clip..... love Dorothy and Groucho

  • omg first one sooooooo funny would you say you deal with more sex?lol and blones make work for being bonde what? were they drunk by any chance? but funny lol

  • Groucho is an inspiration to well read wise guys everywhere. Dorothy Kilgallen did remarkably well with her questioning what with Groucho's constant wiseguy asides. Do you alter their appearance?

  • Watching a bunch of these, Dorothy Kilgallen seems to consistently be the most astute questioner, by far.

Then again, she wasn't some lame actress, she was a Pulitzer Prize winning newspaper woman, when she wasn't busy being the smartest panelist on game shows.

  • I read on her imdb page that she meant business when it came down to finding out the profession and she always was frustrated that she wasn't as popular as the rest who were funny and joking a lot.

Now I don't know if that's true but to me, that's what made her stand out from the others her seriousness. The few I've seen, she gets it almost every time and I say to the tv, "Miss Kilgallen...time for a vacation!" LOL!! :)

They left with only 5 or 10 dollars!!! LOL!

  • You can't get angry nor offended by these questions, come on.

It's so funny that you can't get angry, you can't feel insulted neither.

  • Groucho is one of the few people who can imply that a woman is a prostitute without insulting her.

  • Groucho = Awesome.

    Every single time.

  • Should of done the whole segment

  • "Do you in any way alter their appearance?" And JCD bursts out laughing. Great clip!

  • Judy Grable was the stage name of Nellya Burres-Baughman.
