The only reason people ever considered that she may have been murdered was because of her pursuit of conspiracy theories regarding the death of JFK - the FBI had an extensive file on her because of this.

It was a comedy of manners back then..... while the things being said by Groucho are dirty, you have to think about it to get the joke. He doesn't just come out and say, "She's a hooker and does." It's all hints and entendre. My favorite moment is after Dorthy Kilgallen's innocent slip up (she was very much a lady), and then Groucho shakes her hand and Arlene Francis'. It's just brilliant.

I read on her imdb page that she meant business when it came down to finding out the profession and she always was frustrated that she wasn't as popular as the rest who were funny and joking a lot.

Now I don't know if that's true but to me, that's what made her stand out from the others her seriousness. The few I've seen, she gets it almost every time and I say to the tv, "Miss Kilgallen...time for a vacation!" LOL!! :)
