There is no way Dorothy Kilgallen committed suicide. She was murdered after saying that she had discovered something that was going to break the whole JFK assassination mystery wide open.Dorothy Kilgallen was found dead, sitting fully dressed, upright in bed, early in the morning. All her notes and the article on which she had been working to "blow the JFK assassination wide open" also disappeared.Just another of many victims trying to get the truth out of the Kennedy assassination.
@itsmylife1776 Nonsense, Read "Reclaiming History" by Vincent Bugliosi for a real look at the crime.
We could not believe an evil disturbed punk could take out an important person. Well, he did, all by himself. We as Americans have to live with it. As for Dorothy Kilgallen, drug over doses happen every day every where. Think about this, If any foul play were suspected, friends and family would not have let her death rest.
@Zeanu From what I recall, there is little evidence to suggest that Dorothy was murdered - her death certificate reads "undetermined" as the cause of death, but the most likely cause of death was suicide from drinking poison. The only reason people ever considered that she may have been murdered was because of her pursuit of conspiracy theories regarding the death of JFK - the FBI had an extensive file on her because of this.
@Zeanu Actually, my bad - she died from drinking a combination of alcohol and barbiturates, but it's frequently thought that her death was an accidental overdose.
Groucho upstaged everybody wherever and whenever he appeared. Everybody else took a backseat to him. Except on one occasion....his death. Because his death immediately followed Presley's, there was vey little press on it and that was sad...and still is. Truly a one-of-a-kind.
It was a comedy of manners back then..... while the things being said by Groucho are dirty, you have to think about it to get the joke. He doesn't just come out and say, "She's a hooker and does." It's all hints and entendre. My favorite moment is after Dorothy Kilgallen's innocent slip up (she was very much a lady), and then Groucho shakes her hand and Arlene Francis'. It's just brilliant.

It's all hints and entendre. My favorite moment is after Dorthy Kilgallen's innocent slip up (she was very much a lady), and then Groucho shakes her hand and Arlene Francis'. It's just brilliant.
THAT is how paralyzingly funny Groucho could be! Arlene and Dorothy are about to lose their lunch from laughter at that crack. "...although I've heard of a few who have". That guy did not care-it all all or nothing. "All" usually won out.
@JoyceJennings - it does sound a bit like him, but no, Elmer Fudd was performed by Arthur Q. Bryan until his death in 1959. After that, he was usually performed by Mel Blanc until Blanc's own death in 1989.
What the heck was it about the old TV film that made anyone on a "live studio audience" show look like they constantly had shadows behind them? It's mild on this one, but it's there...
When an 18 year old born 100 years after Groucho finds him to be the most interesting, witty and funny person he's ever seen it really says it all about the universal appeal and timelesness of his jokes and persona. I put him in the same category as Beethoven, Mozart, van Gogh and all the other geniuses whose echoes, if not their own voice, will be heard by my grandchildren and their grandchildren
Considering around this same time period, the word "pregnant" was not even allowed to be used in regard to Lucille Ball (who was married), you have to assume that this was done live. It couldn't have been shown any other way.
@wintersband While I agree that line is funny, I think your other statement about how you didn't know funny people existed in the past is stupid and blatantly ignorant. I mean, come on, you only thought comedians were funny in recent years? I suppose you're a Dane Cook fan in your early teens, then?
Groucho was epic. Nobody but nobody had a quicker wit and so goddamn hilarious right off the top of his head, regardless of where he was or who he was with.
A lot of the stuff Groucho said would have been considered dirty by the standards of the time, but now makes a lot of the stuff that's said by comics and tv shows nowadays look tame and even family-friendly by comparison.
Great comedy always stands the test of time, and this one surely stands the test. To this day it's still so funny. Probably even funnier given that back when this was filmed the censors were probably on pins & needles wanting to cut this all out.
Bravo and well said. ! And BTW, in his book, "The Groucho Letters", he made it plain that a TRUE comic doesn't need to lean on foul language, in disguise of humor. Grouch never did, and his was a true gift of talent that will never be equaled.

Groucho's very appearance makes the show funny he knows just the right moment when to inject a line. The world would be so much better today if we had a Groucho Marx.

Watching a bunch of these, Dorothy Kilgallen seems to consistently be the most astute questioner, by far.
Then again, she wasn't some lame actress, she was a Pulitzer Prize winning newspaper woman, when she wasn't busy being the smartest panelist on game shows.
I read on her imdb page that she meant business when it came down to finding out the profession and she always was frustrated that she wasn't as popular as the rest who were funny and joking a lot.
Now I don't know if that's true but to me, that's what made her stand out from the others her seriousness. The few I've seen, she gets it almost every time and I say to the tv, "Miss Kilgallen...time for a vacation!" LOL!! :)
With more sex?? My goodness

The single funniest quip ever enunciated by Groucho was delivered on his show You Bet Your Life.
He asked a female contestant what she did for a living. She relied: " I'm a housewife."
Groucho then asked if she had children. She responded: Yes, we have 11 children.
Groucho exclaimed...11 children? The lady replied: Well, Groucho, I love children.
Groucho: lady, I love my cigar...but I take it out of my mouth once in a while.

They left with only 5 or 10 dollars!!! LOL!

You can't get angry nor offended by these questions, come on.
It's so funny that you can't get angry, you can't feel insulted neither.

Groucho is one of the few people who can imply that a woman is a prostitute without insulting her.
