  • I don't understand. Why are people mad at the bank, and blaming the bank for overdraft fees? You don't have to pay overdraft fees.. it's simple... DON'T SPEND MORE MONEY THAN YOU HAVE! It's called personal responsibility people!

  • I remember when I first discovered that banks allow purchases w/no funds. It was one of those "process large items first" then a string of smaller items. Total fees was 300+ for bout $25 worth of small purchases: gum burger coffee paper soda etc. I ended up telling off one of the bankers and left the bank for a local one that has since been bought out by the one I left. The most insidious part about this is that it is crafted specifically to exploit those who are least able to afford it.

  • There is no accountability anymore...

That is why this country is fucked up.

    You overdraft, it's YOUR FAULT

  • It seems to me that big banks subscribe to the notion that greed is good and Wells Fargo is one of those big banks.

  • Want to really be screwed? Wells Fargo is the bank for that.

  • @wengl007

What about Bank of America? A lot of big banks can have problems with unethical actions that disregard the welfare of their customers.

Perhaps that is symptomatic of a problem of becoming so big that your focus on customer service becomes lost as you become less and less reliant on serving individuals to stay in business.

  • They should call the police everytime a check bounces. Call it check fraud an arrestable offense. Writing checks they cannot cash with intent to decieve.

  • Yeah, the banks are screwing us in the rear with no astroglide.

Nowadays, a lot of banks are clearing debits BEFORE credits after you make a deposit on the very same business day. This practice makes absolutely no sense unless it's done PURPOSELY by the banks to bring in extra cash.

Clearing debits before deposits is clearly a "set-up" by the banks to drain you of cash when you've done nothing wrong.

I'm definitely going to be watching this documentary!

  • here is a link to every state's small claims court - you have to retype this into a browser with LAW . FREEADVICE . COM / RESOURCES / SMALLCLAIMSCOURTS . HTM

  • tell everyone you know about this

  • we need to take back control. obvoiusly the people who rule money rule the world. THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE and only the people can do this.

  • Its simple math people :P Just don't use more than you have in the bank.

  • Great video, will have to repost this! Please join our Facebook page:

    SERIOUSLY tired of bank fees

Were trying to education people in ways to avoid overdraft fees. Thank you again, great video!

  • I gave up and stopped making deposits and opened another account with a credit union and I went on line and they are still paying my car payment and phone bill and still charging me over draft fees! HA! I had over 350 when I gave up it's up to $900 now. Wells Fargo is evil!

  • just paid $140 overdraft fees, im closing all my accounts, I'm done with those fucking banks.

  • Looks like a very interesting documentary film Karney...nice job!

  • Overdraft is a scam!!! Its not right that the banks rape everyday Americans! All bank cards should stop when it reaches $0.00, Every time you swipe your card and your past $0.00, their is a fee to every transaction, this can be stopped easily!!! The damn card knows when you make a purchase, no matter if its a $10,000 or $00.99. I think its smart enough to know when the money runs out!!! The banks want this to happen and its wrong!

  • Over draft Protection ? Wait a minute... Didnt the Mafia offer "protection" Too ? Protection.? Who exactly is Being Protected. ? While Opening a New Account. A bank teller will Smile and Say. "Would you like the Over draft Protection Option ? " As if Its for YOUR OWN PROTECTION. When in fact it Protects the Casher of your Check, Insuring them that they will get their money. Then HAMMERING YOU with over draft Fee's. PROTECTION I ask. No. its Organized Crime. With nice pretty shiny shoes.

  • If people would just stop using their credit cards the banks can't screw them anymore. Banks are doing this because THEY CAN!

  • Call the bank and ask to cancel overdraft protection....I just did myself!

Call Senator Chris Dodd and show your support for his bill that will stop this shit from happening. He will limit the amount of Overdraft fees to 1 per month, 6 per year. Overdraft fees must be proportionate to the cost of processing an overdraft charge. His number is 202-224-2823. Call and show your support. Google Chris Dodd's overdraft legislation for more information. Pass this message on...post it wherever you can.

  • Man, I wish I was able to tell my story about how I've been getting screwed by overdraft fees.

  • Awesome Work! Love the trailer! Debt Warriors are looking forward to doing a screening in Orlando, Fl. Keep up the great work!

  • Great preview. The Center for Responsible Lending is also fighting to get these unreasonable fees to stop. They have a form letter on their website that you can send to the Federal Reserve Board asking them to pass rules requiring banks to have people opt-in to overdraft programs instead of automatically enrolling them without permission. The Center is also pushing for transaction warnings letting people know when they are going into the red. Just check out the Overdraft Loans issue section.

  • looks great! i'm really glad there are people like you doing important work like this!

  • Just FYI, here in Canada, we use a thing called Interac, which will tell you at the point of purchase if you don't have enough in your account, and refuse the transaction. We also do overdraft on accounts, but only if you ask for it and for much, much less than in the United States.

Come up north, we're friendly. :^)

  • Canada Rocks! Fuck CorpMerica (formally the United States of America) If Carter was reelected in 1980 instead of that bafoon Reagan the world would be a better place right now. The stock market would not crash in 1987. Iran Contra wouldn't exist. Dukakis would probally be elected in 1985, and in 1988. Banks wouldn't have bailed out, and interest charges would not be high as ever on homes, credit cards. I could have only imagine.

  • Outstanding work, Karney.

  • Insightful, explicit, well-crafted and easy to make viral to send a strong message to our legislators.

  • Great job Karney!!! I also saw the other one on current tv. That's some nice editing you've done there.

    Maja

  • BOA, Chase, large banks and most insurance companies are the true domestic terrorists and are selling America down the river almost as

fast as Bush and the republican scam artists.

Thank you for the movie and making us think.

  • Bank of America is now sending bills without their name in the return address, thus creating what appears (to me) as junk mail, resulting in it being pitched and my being charged a fee when I think they calculated I would treat as junk and be billed. Someone get on this as I am disabled and losing my benefits and can't do it.

  • I never wanted this but they basically give you no choice. Most bounced checks immediately warn you when you have no funds. Unlike these cons where you could go almost 2 weeks without knowing. Even a couple of days is enough to equal more than your one bounced checks.

  • Bravo, Karney! Overdrawn is long overdue. Maybe you can do for the public zeitgeist regarding the banking industry what Michael Moore is trying to do regarding national health care. I can't wait to see it.

  • As author of 'The Perfect Sting' I can only compare my praise of 'Overdrawn' to my wonder at how Canadian Banks in the midst of a lending scandal will explain 'Sitting Duck' loans. In Oakville, a banker has bravely moved into politics while debt weary constituents sign a petition for an investigation into lending practices. It must demonstrate overconfidence in 'Dream Laws and Politics for Hungry Bankers' so clearly exposed as a danger to the public in this marvelous documentary.

  • Genial video, creo que es interesante cómo se maneja no sólo el dinero en bancos, sino el poder, en realidad, en todos los países. Bien!

  • Excellent!!

  • This is a movie I think everyone can relate to. Who hasn't been screwed by the banking industry?
