I think I can relate to BadAttitube in this respect, I too believe my perfectionism in some areas is linked to my OCD. I have had OCD since 5th grade, and I think that later on OCD contributed to, if not then turned into perfectionism...
And yea, perfectionism doesnt always mean completion of work, which I always thought to mean. I have many creative stories written, but unfinished because I feel they can/should be perfected before finished.
i'm a perfectionist and suffer from all the halmarks that you mention. I guess it started when i wuz half way through middle school and have suffered with it ever since (im now 25). It's a psychological condition I know but how do you re-programme the mind' after such a long period of suffering from it. I believe I was born with the condition. It is a compulsion of mine which I think is strongly linked to OCD.
@BadAttitube23 I have a lot of the same tendencies. I think a good starting point is to realize that you won't be a perfect non-perfectionist. :). We all have aspects of our selves that are a bit extreme. The goal is just to improve your life by making changes that make you happier.

Sad state of affairs, really.
