  • @silverblue004 how?

I ve seen to this video more than ten times and I m trying hard but I cannot understand his passages. They just don't fit for me. I d realy love to understand it. Is there any way somebody could try to explain it to me?

  • 2:34 was the worst part of this video.

  • VERY STRONG, IT'S A LEGEND!!!

  • YOU CAN NOT STOP SONNY!!

  • @criswar1 Nope. 81 and still going strong.

  • Unique style and sound. That makes him a great-great musician (not chronologically :P).

  • @xatzidakis Agreed!

  • I play the flute and I started tenor staxophone just yesterday! i'm so HAPPY!! :D

I also subscribed! @JazzVideoGuy Thanks for all these cool videos! =]

  • 14 people wished the tune went on

  • 2 years ago, I saw this video and thought

"what the heck... why is playing all random notes?"

ever since I've "felt" that urge to play like that with a backtrack,

NOW I understand what that truly is. BEAUTIFUL.

  • Sonny Rollins is a force from which emits raw musical power. Such is the strength that i can feel his presence from here in Australia. See you in june Sonny babe <3

  • @SaXDuDe17 i'll be there to bro, keen as a bean

  • Hey Bret...I want to thank you for giving us all this great stuff...and for knowing all these sax greats.

  • @SolSorrell Thank you!

  • the guitarist isnt that good

  • Amazing!..

Btw, perhaps somebody can provide me with an answer - was it ever performed by the Modern Jazz Quartet or Manhattan Transfer?

  • sounds like crap

  • @BigBandJazz97 You're tone deaf.

  • This is fucking great! He do the be-bop stuff beyound that flurring.. It swings and it is in tune and in control, fantastic.

  • ummm im new to this. what really is a 'phrase?'

  • @cookiimoose It's like a musical sentence. A bunch of notes strung together than says a little something.

  • inSANE!

  • shredding on the sax wonderful. Did he do any blues type music

  • LOVE it @ 1:36

  • OH!!

    最高やわ!!

    めっちゃかっこいいゎ!!

    アップありがとうございます♪

  • Amazing. Thanks from Germany. Greets Linde

  • This is terrible. He just shat all over that song. At some points, cats should just go back to the semi-pro leagues.

  • @UprightBryce He's one of the most amazing jazz musicians ever. If you don't like how this one is, go to tenor madness. That's what you'd probably like then.

  • @TheWoogie2 I know Rollins' work really well- I've transcribed tons of his solos, from Tenor Madness, as well as off the whole way out west album. But, you can't say this is good. He's all over the place and is not playing ANYTHING tasteful.

  • @brycepeake

Yeah he is, it's just delightfully awkward. :D lol

  • @brycepeake Sorry myfirend ,I hate to burst your bubble. No,you don't know as much as you thought...This is dynamic improvising on his own terms..BTW please get a copy of the song..and listen to his rendition agin ,then you decide. Don't mess with Sonny's work ok..Peace and blessings to ya !!!

  • 凄いぞ老いてまた元気100倍若いものに負けるな!まだ現意気や!親父臭さなんか

  • ong that low Bb was so cool and funny

  • thanks for putting up this vid....this song is one of my fave sonny songs. that playing the low B-flat for the melody during the last portion of the song was amazing....thanks for helping to keep this music alive

  • this clip was probably started 32 minutes into his solo :-)

  • simply the best..

  • Awesome ! x O only Sonny can play this.... !!

  • im loving it.....

  • I heard him play half the 2009 top 40 larded with 60 years of jazz history and after everyone thought he was completely lost double back and return to the song he was playing...:D

He is ...well... SONNY ROLLINS, there's no other name or word for him.

  • Agüante Sonny Rollins !!!!

  • Mariguanote !

    Pero toca chido !

  • excellent,wish i cud play like that

  • this is one of the most free solo i've ever heard from sonny...

    like it

  • Young Skywalker, listen you should to Our Man in Jazz and East Broadway Rundown. In the middle 1960s was Rollins working out the implications of Ayler and Coltrane: with Don Cherry, Billy Higgins, and Henry Grimes was he playing. But alas, there followed a disturbance in the Force...

  • ese man toka uff

  • el man toca pero no se me da risa jeje

  • PAPA

  • he is graet...

  • Overtones backwards with the attack? bloody with sanborn? I don´t really follow here, dude.

  • more like yeah right.

  • man, I don't know about all those fast licks, but he's a legend

  • I just LOVE 1:36 and forward! :)

  • me to :)

  • Me too :P !!

  • this video should put a big smile an your face!

    Sonny is so brilliant

  • Yes! :)

  • Wow... :O

  • I JUST SAW LES PAUL KICK ASS AT AGE 92!

  • whats up with his strange vibrato lately?

  • 1:44 Incredible

  • You seem very knowledgable. Please post more!

  • I know , he is nothing , he is jast one of the 3 father of the modern tenor sax :) , hahha

this is not my his favorite performance ... but he is one of the best ten. sax player

  • Right! Brilliant analysis! If that is all it is, let's see you do it!! Ever played a sax or any instrument. YOu think he is just mindlessly moving his fingers and blowing air uncontrolably? Obviously you know zilch about jazz, and are probably tone deaf to boot. Go do some listening to a good cross-section of jazz from the 30s to the 70's for about 10 years and you might learn something.

  • @koreancutie101 That's just this song. Listen to his others.

  • This man is a legend

  • Sounds like squeaky boots lol

  • i think he is talking spanish with the saxophone

  • It`s just fucking awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He's 78 years old and still playing jazz.

    Isn't that amazing? He's a true living

    legend!!

  • He IS the ultimate 'Colossus'. So glad he's still around.

One of the last remaining legends of jazz.

  • What do you think, you automatically drop dead when you hit 70? Ageist!! Lots of musicians play into their 80's as long as their health is good and they don't have arthritis to keep them from moving their fingers. I saw Lionel Hampton when he was 79 & he kicked ass on vibes better than guys 1/3 his age. He played actively until 1991 when he had a stroke so he played until 84. Vladimir Horowitz was still playing up to his death at 86. As far as I know Johnny Griffin is still playing and he's 80.

  • i like the end

  • ロリンズ 最高 一番

  • he's stil alive

  • Sonny dal vivo è un uragano!!

    The calipso king!

  • Is he still alive?

  • oh que oui!

  • alive and getting better!

  • @saxross yes he is.....and faster

  • at all

  • I love the way he moves while he plays.

  • amaxing

  • lol wtf?! haha he's like hella ancient and he starts playing crazy shit..

  • Sonny was, and still is, THE MASTER. I can't think of any jazz player who doesn't look up to him, even now!

  • Rollins is second, Coltrane is first

  • FABULOUS ROLLINS

  • sonny free

  • Don't stop the Carnival, Calypso everywhere !!! Long Live Sonny!

  • sonny pwns

  • I saw him in the 90s and it was the best concert i've ever seen. He looks like 300 years old then starts playing.

  • Jak to ściągnąć?!

  • Good Sonny Rollins!!

  • Totally awesome!!! I saw Sonny in concert last year in Cerritos CA and he was fantastic. Where was this clip filmed at?

  • Cerritos!

  • Wow!!! I guess I was there!!! Awesome.

  • @ Korean121: he plays a berg larsen on a selmer mark VI

  • any one know what type of mouthpiece he has or recomend?
